Fiona Apple Announces New Album Title … And It’s A Doozy

We’ve been on Fiona Apple Album Watch 2012 for months.

In January, Apple’s label exec LA Reid tweeted that his Eric Records had lots of good tunes in the offing, including Apple’s new set. “Lots of good music coming from @Epic_Records in the next few weeks,” Reid tweeted. “Stay tuned music fans. Welcome back Fiona! #BeEpic.”

Soon after, when Time skeptically reached out to see if new Apple music was really do in just a few weeks, a spokesperson clarified that while 2012 would indeed see new music from the much loved singer-songwriter, it wasn’t going to drop anytime soon. Saying Reid’s word were “taken out of context,” the rep added. “It’ll absolutely be this year,” she told the Times, “but timing-wise, I don’t know exactly when.”

Well … we’re most certainly getting closer as Apple has announced the title for the album, and much like her 1999 set When the Pawn…, it’s, um, a mouth full – The Idler Wheel is wiser than the Driver of the Screw, and Whipping Cords will serve you more than Ropes will ever do.

Got that?

For a walk down memory lane, check out When the Pawn‘s full title after the jump.

When the pawn hits the conflicts he thinks like a king
What he knows throws the blows when he goes to the fight
And he’ll win the whole thing ‘fore he enters the ring
There’s no body to batter when your mind is your might
So when you go solo, you hold your own hand
And remember that depth is the greatest of heights
And if you know where you stand, then you know where to land
And if you fall it won’t matter, cause you’ll know that you’re right
