We've been on Fiona Apple Album Watch 2012 for a while now. From L.A. Reid's Twitter confirmation that Apple's much anticipated (and reportedly long-finished) album was finally on the horizon to the announcement of its long title (ahem, The Idler Wheel is wiser than the Driver of the Screw, and Whipping Cords will serve you more than Ropes will ever do), just the thought of new material from the impossibly talented singer-songwriter gets us weak in the knees.
But now, we have the best thing of all – some songs! Apple took the stage last night at NPR's showcase at Stubb's Barbecue at the South By Southwest Music Conference and Festival in Austin, Texas, and debuted new material, including the songs "Anything We Want", "Valentine" and "Every Single Night." The singer also gave fans a taste of her best-known hits, like "Criminal," ''Fast As You Can" and "Sleep to Dream."
Billboard reports the well-received performance was Apple's first live set performed outside of Los Angeles in over five years and that she's set to begin a brief, eight-date tour Sunday in Chicago.
Give "Anything We Want" a listen after the jump and let us know what you think in the comments!
