A decade ago, MTV played host to a slew of celebrities hanging out in Times Square to ring in the New Year. Although everyone was there to party, the big question was: Is the world going to end tonight? The Y2K bug* was plaguing the world. Would we make it to the millennium? (Spoiler alert: We did! We made it!)

Up until those final seconds of panic, Diddy performed, as did Jay-Z and Bush (which is funny because Gwen Stefani and No Doubt were also on hand to perform), Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson cuddled and Christina Aguilera chatted with Carson Daly.

As the final countdown took place, the clock struck midnight, confetti fell and the world (obviously) didn't end. But just in case, No Doubt was on hand to ring in the New Year with the classic R.E.M. tune, "It's the End of the World as We Know It (And I Feel Fine)." How ironic! They then segued into their own tune, "Ex-Girlfriend." The fact that the world didn't end doesn't leave us very much surprised, but you may be surprised to know that in 1999, Gwen Stefani had pink hair, blunt bangs and braces. We wonder what look she'll use to ring in 2010 with?

*For those of you who may not be familiar with the problem, yourdictionary.com defines it as: "The predicted malfunction of some computer systems prior to or at the beginning of the year 2000 because of their inability to distinguish between dates in the 1900s and dates in the 2000s. This inability results from the coding of year dates in some software and chips with only the final two, rather than all four, digits." Anyways, it doesn't matter because it didn't happen, but that's what we were worried about ten years ago.

Kelly Clarkson may have challenged her critics when she covered Beyoncé's "Halo" in concert earlier this year (as her song "Already Gone" was under attack for sounding eerily similar), but now instead of covering songs just to prove a point, Clarkson has decided to cover songs for the heck of it.

She recently put her stamp on Taylor Swift's "White Horse" and on the Cranberries' "Linger." In fact, there appears to be an entire YouTube page dedicated to Clarkson's spin on other people's songs, as well as new songs from the singer. Other covers include "Mary Jane" by Alanis Morissette, "The Climb" by Miley Cyrus, another Swift song, "Cold As You," an Elvis Presley classic, "Always on my Mind" and that Susan Boyle/Rolling Stones favorite "Wild Horses." Clarkson also grabbed headlines earlier this fall when she mashed up Morissette's "That I Would Be Good" and Kings of Leon's "Use Somebody" in concert.

The songs which were reportedly recorded by a fan at a VIP preshow held by Clarkson during her All I Ever Wanted tour were posted online, according to one blog. Now fans can get a taste of some of the newer material she's working on. In the overwhelming amount of songs on the YouTube page includes songs "So He Says," "Poison Candy," "I'm Not the Only One" as well as 12 other Clarkson tracks. There doesn't seem to be any other information regarding any release information about the tracks anywhere.

So, what do you think of Clarkson's covers? And, how do her newer songs stack up against Clarkson classics like "Since U Been Gone" and "Miss Independent"?

According to Britney Spears, there were over 13,000 stories written about the pop singer this year alone. Given how much we love and write about her here on MTV News, that seems completely plausible. So, instead of getting mad with the rumors that were particularly untrue, the singer took to her website to poke fun at a whole bunch of them.

"We ranked the ones we believe were the most ridiculous," she wrote on her site. "Either because they were factually inaccurate, because they reported the patently absurd or because we believe they are simply offensive to the sensibilities."

The list included romance rumors and stories started by Courtney Love, but there were also a few rumors that seemed particularly crazy. Which one? Like the one where Britney was rumored to star in a film described as a "Holocaust thriller." (Never mind that nobody is quite sure what a "Holocaust thriller" actually is.) Then there's one when she hates Australia. Let's be honest: With all the quality beer and emus running amok, how can anyone hate Australia?

Then there's the one where Brit Brit wanted to be a Baptist minster. That just seems silly (though she could have easily ordered a certificate online for that sort of thing). She also was apparently pregnant again this year. The source on that one is ... Ryan Seacrest? Bizarre! Speaking of bizarre, she was also working with Michael Jackson on some posthumous music.

But our favorite comes via Christopher "CJ" Smith of MTV News. He really wanted Britney to headline Coachella. She broke his heart. It's a classic tale.

Congrats to CJ for making Britney's list. His place in history (Britstory?) is set forever.

I've had a great 2009. Why? Well, I got to chill with everyone from the cast of "New Moon" to the Jonas Brothers to Taylor Swift. I got to meet Jordan Knight and David Boreanaz (who wanted to sing karaoke with me, by the way). Plus, I got to meet a few other really cute guys, and I even made a couple of them — namely Diego Luna and Gael Garcia Bernal — fall in love with me.

Yes, you heard me. Fall in love with me. Let's travel back to April when Diego and Gael (we're on a first name basis!) were busy promoting their flick, "Rudo y Cursi." I, of course, wanted to know all about their now infamous make out session in "Y Tu Mama Tambien." They had a lot of fun stuff to say about it and each other. They were delightful and charming and dreamy. We chatted about soccer and more kissing (Diego kissed Sean Penn too! What a floozy!). And then, out of nowhere, just as the interview was wrapping up, Diego asked me for a kiss. (Like I said: Such a floozy!)

I was slightly taken aback (in a good way) and tried to play it cool, like this happens to me all the time. (For the record: It doesn't.) And so, what was a girl to do? Say no? Heck no! So, I went for it right there in the junket, all while the cameras were still rolling. So just in case you don't believe this happened to me, enjoy the video proof.

Ever wonder where "Jersey Shore" star Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi likes to shop? What does she want for Christmas? Well, when Snooki and other "Jersey Shore" stars stopped by the MTV News offices on Thursday (December 17), a lot of the staff here had many burning questions for MTV's latest reality star.

Snooki gave advice for how to be look like her. "Go tanning more, like me. So the hair. Straighten the hair all the time. The poof, hairspray, Bebe clothes."

Wondering what to get for Christmas? That was an easy one. "An Escalade. That's what I want. Black, with rims."

Need to know what pickup line to not use on her? Done. "Honestly, I don't get pickup lines. All they do is grab my ass and I don't like that. So change your ways."

And finally, where does fashionista Snooki like to shop? "I go to Woodbury Commons [in Central Valley, New York]." What stores? "Juicy, Bebe, Armani."

It seems like we now have plans for this weekend: Poof our hair, don our best Juicy attire, put away our pickup lines and ride around in our Escalade. Does anyone have directions to Karma?

Rihanna looks hot in her new music video for her song "Hard." She's scantily-clad running around the desert bossing her own private military around. Guerilla warfare never looked so good.

However, aside from the explosions, the multiple costume changes and that giant pink tank she's straddling, one particular moment will leave its lasting stamp on the world of pop culture. And that moment is (drum roll, please) ... the blogger.

Not sure what I mean? Allow me to explain. Rihanna is finally giving bloggers the love and attention they so deserve by giving them a little shout out in the song. Towards the end of it, Rihanna sings, "Where dem bloggers at?/ Where dem bloggers at? /Where they at, where they at, where they at?" And she, being the tastemaker that she is, actually institutes the best new dance craze: air typing.

Yes, Rihanna air types in the video. Is it odd? Yes. Is it wacky? Totally. Do we kind of love it? Undoubtedly. (Bloggers, by nature, are self-involved and love any form of recognition.) And yes, I know this isn't the latest dance craze yet, but I think that you'll eventually make your way into the coolest nightclubs and just start seeing hip people doing the blogger. I'm fine with this.

Where dem bloggers at? Right here, Rihanna. Right here. And, we don't just air type, we actually type. That's pretty hardcore, right?

In 1994, Lisa Loeb wanted us to "Stay," but all I could do was be jealous of her bold and oh-so-hip decision to don her now signature cat-eye glasses. I had just started wearing glasses myself at the time and Lisa was doing the work that was long overdue: Empowering the bespectacled youth of America to forgo the nerd stereotypes and embrace their inner coffee shop songwriter.

Now, 15 years, a few reality shows and a number of albums later, Lisa is finally releasing her own eyewear line. According to Entertainment Weekly, Lisa (who is as much known for wearing glasses as she is for writing catchy tunes) is teaming with Classique Eyewear to create frames similar to the ones she wore in that "Stay" music video.

The glasses will be available in black and tortoise-shell and will have rhinestones and etchings. To make matters more interesting, the frames will be named after Lisa's now classic female-friendly pop rock song titles. The big question remains: When will Rivers Cuomo launch the male line to act as a counterpart to Lisa's? Rivers, it's never too late to get in the design game. Plus, we have always wondered what we would look like wearing the "Buddy Holly" specs.

When Jesse McCartney stopped by the MTV News offices on Tuesday, the pop star talked about wanting to work with Ludacris again for his next album. He even would like to go a little edgier than his last release, 2008's Departure. But in one of the more candid portions of the interview, the actor/singer also sat down and answered your question (submitted via the MTV News Twitter page) about everything from alternative life choices to finding the right lady!

Maya (who tweets as @BuHBye3e3) wanted to know what Jesse would be doing if he weren't a famous singer who moonlights in flicks like the upcoming "Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel." Apparently, he might like to compete on the next season of "Top Chef." "I would probably be a chef," he said. "I would probably want to be in the kitchen cooking my whole life."

Candice also dropped us a line (she's known in the Twitter universe as @NicktasticCandi) and wanted to find out what Jesse looked for in a lady. (If the rumors are true, her initials probably aren't HP.) We have a feeling that Candice is going to be a big fan of what McCartney had to say in response to that question.

Check out the video of McCartney answering your Twitter inquiries below, and stay tuned to the MTV News Twitter feed (you can find it @MTVNews) for more opportunities to get personal with your favorite stars.

In 2009, Rihanna proved she was still a musical force with her angsty, kaleidoscopic album Rated R. She drove home another point too: That she isn't always interested in wearing clothes. Sometimes she was lacking pants. Sometimes she skipped putting on a shirt. There's no denying that the Barbados-born R&B singer is sexy, but even for a hot diva, she spent an awful lot of time in her birthday suit. Her latest appearance is on the cover of the January 2010 issue of GQ, where she is topless and covering her breasts with her arms.

But that's hardly the first skin we've seen this year. In September, the singer appeared topless for Italian Vogue. Wearing nothing but strategically placed pasties, skimpy underwear and boots, Rihanna laid the groundwork for a fall season full of shots of her sans tops.

For the "Russian Roulette" single art, Rihanna replaced the pasties with barbed wire and showed the world that she was back, tough and ready to rock. (We do have to say that probably couldn't have been comfortable.)

The "Wait Your Turn" single cover featured a shot of Rihanna cowering ... from a shirt! The singer once again showing her distaste for clothing appeared sans top for the artwork for the single.

For the cover for "Hard," Rihanna decided to mix things up a bit and put on a shirt. But in the process, she forgot pants. Then for her latest photo shoot in GQ, Rihanna, decided that pants were cool again, but shirts they were so yesterday. And on the cover of the magazine decided that she didn't want to be known as the girl who hated pants… instead choosing to be the girl who hates shirts.

Miley Cyrus really likes Lady Gaga. The teen queen recently got to meet the Queen of England, but was more excited about meeting Gaga at the Royal Variety Show in Blackpool, England. To be honest, it'd be a toss-up for us too — we'd probably also post "I met Lady Gaga!" on our blog over 50 times if given the chance.

Now a video has appeared online of the singer backstage at one of her shows performing the choreography in Gaga's super-fantastic "Bad Romance" video. How Miley has managed to make the time to learn the moves is beyond us, but the video features Miley and some random guy showing off about 19 seconds worth of dance moves, all accompanied by Gaga's hit tune. (Though perhaps this is how she's been spending all that spare time now that she doesn't have a Twitter account around to distract her.)

Regardless, Miley is a pretty fine dancer. Her friend isn't bad either, even though we have no clue who he is. We didn't really realize she had such a talent. Maybe we've missed that skill while being dazzled by her many other ones — like having excellent taste in cover songs.

Between this video video and the English encounter, how long will it be before Gaga and Miley team up like Gaga and Beyoncé did? That is one collaboration we'd be down for, so we're adding it to our wish list for 2010. Make it happen, ladies!
