Hilary Duff

Hilary Duff's mom took the pop star's dad to court, asking that he pay her $25,000 towards their daughter's 21st birthday party and gift. But the situation got a whole lot worse when Bob Duff was found in contempt of court for violating an injunction against selling assets without court approval. Now he's been sentenced to 10 days in jail. Read the complete story of the argument over Hilary Duff's birthday here.

Do you think Hilary's dad should have to pay for the party, considering that his daughter has a career and money of her own? Let us know.

Suge Knight

Suge Knight has been released on bail from a Las Vegas jail after his Wednesday arrest for allegedly beating his girlfriend while driving.

This, of course, isn't Suge's first brush with the law. A little review: He was convicted of assault and placed on probation in 1992 for attacking two rappers at a recording studio. In 1995, he pleaded no contest to trafficking fire arms. After violating his probation in 1996 (by assaulting another man in a Las Vegas hotel), he was placed in jail for five years. In 2003, he went back to jail for 10 months for violating parole by punching a parking valet.

As past history has shown, anything can happen within the first few minutes of any VMA show. It seems virtually everyone watching the show is sizing up how that year's opening moments compare with those of previous years.

With this year's show — which takes place on Sunday, September 7 — coming up fast, we're taking a look back at some of the most thrilling starts on "Top 10 VMA Opening Moments."

You didn't have to be watching the show in 1984 to know about Madonna singing "Like a Virgin," dressed as a bride and writhing all over the stage at New York's Radio City Music Hall. Or the heartwarming tribute to the Notorious B.I.G. that Diddy and company did in 1997. Or (gulp) the kiss between Michael Jackson and then-wife Lisa Marie Presley?

We've dug through the vaults and found the most memorable opening moments in VMA history. It was a task that wasn't easy — but this is a list that practically screams "top that!" and acts as a primer for anyone who dares to open one of the most outrageous awards shows in the history of television.

Can things get any better for the Jonas Brothers? They have three albums in the top 10 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, including the soundtrack to "Camp Rock" and their new one, A Little Bit Longer, which debuted at #1. Plus, the boys — Joe, Nick and Kevin — have a legion of dedicated and loving teenage fans.

And now the boys can add style mavens and rock-and-roll all-stars to their list of this week's achievements. This afternoon, while taking a tour of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland, Ohio, the guys donated the three suits they wore on the cover of their smash album A Little Bit Longer to the museum.

Take a closer look at the suits (and the Jonas Brothers) after the jump!

Every year, the red carpet at the MTV Video Music Awards is filled with stars walking that oh-so-fine line between fashion triumph and fashion tragedy — with some fashionistas showing they can pull off the latter category as couture. And over the years, we've seen some of the biggest names in the entertainment world make some famous and infamous decisions when it comes to their red-carpet finery.

There are the stars that show up and just make us go wow! Like when Megan Fox and Rihanna both went hot pink for the 2007 broadcast. Or, when Justin Timberlake went solo in 2006 and showed everyone that one is far from the loneliest number! Read More...

Tameka Raymond and Usher

Usher's wife Tameka Raymond, who felt inspired by her husband's voter-registration efforts in Atlanta and Detroit, will host the first annual "Back to School Expo" in Oakland, California, on August 24. The Oakland Natives Give Back fund has joined forces with Usher's I Can't But You Can voter -registration drive.

The expo, to be held at City Hall, will hand out backpacks filled with school supplies to over 600 Oakland public school students. The event will also include a surprise celebrity appearance as well as a fashion show, teen summit and talent showcase. The expo not only wishes to teach kids about the importance of academic success, but also seeks to tell the kids to encourage the adults in their lives to vote.

Oakland native Tameka, along with philanthropists Nyeisha DeWitt and Delicia Abdur-Rahim, started the Oakland Natives Give Back fund to show solidarity with the Oakland community.

Bono

Imagine this: You're in the South of France, walking past Bono's beach house, and all of a sudden you hear what have to be new U2 songs blasting from inside. So what do you do? Get yourself a recording device, record the tracks and post them on YouTube, of course!

Apparently, that's exactly what someone did last week (and the same thing reportedly happened two summers ago, as well). The sound quality of the leaked tracks — which reportedly have been removed under orders from the group's label — is almost comically low: You can hear people talking and all kinds of ambient noise while Bono emotes in the distance, although you can get a vague sense of what the band's next album might sound like.

Congrats, Madonna, on making it to the half-century mark!

After all these years, Madge — who celebrates (?) her big 5-0 on Saturday — still knows a thing or two about getting her name in the headlines. In this summer alone, she's been reportedly getting a divorce, reportedly linked with New York Yankee Alex Rodriguez, and reportedly looking to adopt another baby from Africa.

She has denied all of the above — something she also knows a thing or two about, as MTV News' John Norris found out back in May. After her show in New York, she showed him that just because she's getting older doesn't mean she's not as fiery as ever (even if her memory may be showing a little age).

She very tersely corrected John for not accurately remembering a quote that her good friend Rupert Everett said to her about turning 50 — but after research on our part, it turns out that John was, in fact, correct.

But what's all that in comparison with all the great moments she's given us over the years?

There was the now-infamous 1984 VMA appearance, during which she rolled around on the stage, dressed in a wedding gown singing "Like a Virgin." Or there was the 1995 VMA incident when Madonna, while being interviewed by Kurt Loder, was accosted by Courtney Love, who threw a makeup compact at her to hustle in on the interview.

And then there was 2003, when Madonna kissed the heirs to her throne, Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera — and then got the two of them to make out with each other.

For anyone who doesn't think Madonna's still got it, think again. She's proved over and over that there's nothing like the original. So here's to you, Madonna. Happy Birthday!

Not only does Chicago rapper Yung Berg have his debut album, Look What You Made Me, coming out Tuesday, but he's also teamed up with the Declare Yourself campaign in an effort to encourage young people to register to vote.

The campaign hopes to empower young people and show them that by registering to vote they can make a difference. "We can't complain about change if we don't get out there and vote," Yung Berg told MTV News. "I'm exercising my rights now so my voice can be heard in this presidential race."

Yung Berg also recently talked to MTV News about his album. "I'm an R&B dude at heart," Berg revealed. "And I like rap. I started with [DMX]. My craft has evolved. I try to be a jack-of-all-trades where I can sing R&B and write R&B as well as me doing my rap thing and producing as well. I'm multitasking."

And now he's multitasking for his country! You can learn more at the Declare Yourself Web site.
