Kristen Stewart

Twitter is famously a forum where you can say just about anything about just about anyone without any consequences. You can blast your mouth off, say terrible, terrible things for no good reason about people you've never met and sometimes even get away with threatening people.

Of course, the people getting trashed talked the most on the social network are celebrities. People just love to say horrible things about singers and actors, and last night on "Jimmy Kimmel Live," the host had multiple stars read and react to hateful tweets about themselves.

Justin Bieber, Zooey Deschanel, Kristen Stewart, Katy Perry and Snooki are among those who get a lion's share of vitriol tossed their way through social media, mostly because they just aren't some people's cup of tea. But if Twitter has taught us one thing, it's that every individual is entitled to share their self-important, hyperbolic opinion with as many people as possible because the things they have to say are extremely valid and worthwhile …. like, "I would rather chop my arm off and f**k myself with my detached limb than watch 'Katie [sic] Perry the movie.' What the f**k is wrong with the world." We're really glad someone shared that.

Perry seems to be too. "I'd pay to see that," she says in response to the tweet. Bieber, Stewart, Deschanel, Snooki and more all get in on the act as well, in a funny clip that will hopefully make people realize their thoughtless words can make them the subject of ridicule too.

These stars have a much better sense of humor about their haters than we think we could muster!

Olly Murs

Looking to have a little fun as the 2012 Summer Olympics take over his native England, pop singer Olly Murs is challenging his own athleticism – and the prowess of those in his band – by holding his own "Ollympics."

"I'm really excited about it, and of course, I wanted to keep my American fans interested in what I'm doing. I thought this would be really funny and do some viral stuff online, just me knocking around and the band sort of doing different events. It's me against my band," Murs tells MTV News. "The U.S. fans have been tweeting in what they'd like me to do, so we've collected all them together and we've done the Ollympics, which should be fun."

>> Exclusive: Olly Murs Kicks Off His Own 'Ollympics'

For his first challenge, the U.K. pop sensation, who toured the U.S. earlier this summer with One Direction and will release his stateside debut, In Case You Didn't Know (a hybrid of his hit U.K. debut and sophomore albums), on September 25, took on an actual Olympic event: Table Tennis. It did not go well for the 28-year-old heartthrob.

Check out the exclusive clip below:

"I thought that the band wouldn't be as good as they were. We decided the first game is of course table tennis, which of course is an Olympic sport," he says. "I did not win, which is pretty shameful, but you need to watch the rest and you know it's good. It's quite fun."

Modern Family

Contract negotiations for the upcoming season of "Modern Family" just hit an epic snag: the show's six principle adult cast members Ty Burrell, Julie Bowen, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Eric Stonestreet, Ed O'Neill and Sofia Vergara are suing the show's producer, 20th Century Fox, to void their current contracts, according to The Hollywood Reporter

The show was supposed to have its first table read for the new season today (July 24), but it was canceled at the last minute as the show's stars attempt to renegotiate their contracts with Fox. Negotiations are not going well, with the cast of the top-rated sitcom rejecting an offer that would have reportedly paid $150,000 per episode plus a $50,000 per episode bonus for this coming season, $200,000 per episode for next year's fifth season, $225,000 for the year after that, and up to $325,000 for a hoped-for ninth season.

While the cast is indeed looking for more money – they were angling for a flat $200,000 each for season four, and as much as double what Fox is offering for the theoretical season nine – a major point of contention in their contract dispute appears to be longer-term contracts they signed at the start of the show. THR reports the cast members want their original contracts voided, claiming they violate a Californian labor code that declares "contracts to render personal service may not be enforced beyond seven years from the commencement of service under it."

Burrell, Bowen, Stonestreet, Vergara and Ferguson were reportedly paid $65,000 per episode for season 3, while O'Neill, who started the show at a higher salary than his then-lesser-known (at the time) cast mates, earned $105,000 per episode.

O'Neill was not initially involved in the lawsuit because he was engaged in a different, but apparently equally contentious, negotiation. He has since reportedly joined his cast mates in their suit out of solidarity.

Deadline reports the suit took 20th Century Fox by surprise. Studio execs expected the actors to show up for work as their contract negotiations continue.

The cast's decision to boycott today's table read and sue is not unlike a move made by the cast of "Friends," who also negotiated their contracts together, ahead of the show's third season in 1996. The stars formed a unified front and threatened to boycott production unless they received salary increases to $100,000 each per episode. The tactic worked, and the cast not only got their raise, but their salaries rose as the show's popularity stayed strong, culminating in the cast earning $1 million each per episode by the end of the series.

Mariah

We are very excited that Mariah Carey is set to join "American Idol" in the fall. I mean, we've never really watched "A.I.," but we might give it a shot now just to see what the famously loopy diva has to say, especially to the less-than-talented contestants that audition early on and don't make it through. Mariah Carey doesn't hide her feelings, so we're hoping for some Cowell-level slights mixed with diva eye rolling. It's going to be amazing.

The motives behind the singer's decision to sign up for FOX's long-running reality singing competition still aren't clear. We're sure the $18 million check she'll cash for just one season if "Idol" certainly has something to do with it, but Mariah Carey has all the money in the world – her estimated net worth is $500 million. No, we think there's more to it than money. Mariah is looking to pull a J.Lo.

>> Can Mariah Carey Save 'American Idol'?

Before signing on to join "Idol" in 2011, Lopez's career was, well, not exactly thriving. Her 2010 rom-com "The Back-Up Plan" bombed and before it she hadn't starred in a film since the 2006 misfire "El Cantante." Her 2007 album Brave also failed to get much attention, debuting at a career-worst #12 on the Billboard 200 album chart.

Then suddenly, things turned around dramatically. Lopez's single "On the Floor" debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart at number nine (the highest debut of her career) and went on to peak at No. 3. It marked her first top ten hit since 2003's "All I Have." With nearly 570 million views on YouTube, the video for "On the Floor" is the most watched video ever by a female artist ever on the video-watching website. (Justin Bieber's "Baby" remains the YouTube champion by a substantial margin with more than 761 million views.)

With Lopez seated behind the "Idol" judges table, the juggernaut show posted its first season-over-season ratings gain since 2007 (though it went on to falter in her second season on the show). Her album Love? was released in April 2011 and debuted at No. 5, her highest position on the US album chart since 2005. Even film roles are starting to crop up again; this year, Lopez starred in "What to Expect When You're Expecting" and voiced a character in the fourth "Ice Age" film. She's also already filmed director Taylor Hackford's ("Ray") thriller "Parker" opposite Jason Statham and Clifton Collins Jr.

>> Why Mariah Carey Will Make Me Watch 'American Idol' For The First Time

In May, she topped Forbes magazine's list of the most powerful celebrities and she is now touring the world with Enrique Iglesias in support of her best-of package, Dance Again … The Hits.

So things are going, you know, pretty well. Read More...

Mariah Carey

While I have long been an avid consumer of our popular culture, there is one tent pole that I have avoided. At first, it was a pointed protest against what I thought was a silly televised karaoke contest. Later, after it proved to be a star-maker, I stayed away out of spite; what entertainment value would I, then a cultured college student working on being as pretentious as possible, get out of this live singing spectacle. These days, I avoid it out of apathy – outside of the day-to-day business of still being one of the biggest shows on TV, something I cover professionally, I haven't thought about "American Idol" as got-to entertainment in years.

That all changed this afternoon (July 23) when it was announced that Mariah Carey was on board – for real this time, officially – to take up one of the seats at the judges' table recently vacated by Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler.

While I still have almost no interest in "Idol," I have endless interest in Carey, who is not only an unquestionably talented singer but also slightly out-there and such a huge star that there isn't a PR team, label A&R guy or TV junior executive that will be able to stop her from saying and doing exactly as she wants … And that's awesome, because the things she usually wants to do are magic (like this).

Here are three reasons I will watch "American Idol" for the first time now that Mariah Carey is judging. Read More...

We're about to say something we thought we'd never say. Tell it, Kris Humphries!

After signing a reported two-year, $24 million deal to return to the Brooklyn Nets, basketballer and, more famously, Kim Kardashian's ex-husband Kris Humphries took to Twitter to get a little something off his chest that's probably been burning him for months … since Kanye West dropped his single "Cold," in which he professed his love for Kardashian and took a low shot at Humphries, rapping, "Lucky I ain’t have Jay drop him from the team."

Jay, of course, is Jay-Z, who co-owns Nets and happens to be a very close personal friend and professional collaborator of West's.

Humphries shot West's lyric back at him after re-upping with the team, writing, "I'm up at Brooklyn! @S_C_ 'lucky I didn't have Jay drop me from the team' lol!"

(@S_C_ is Jay-Z's Twitter handle.)

At the time of "Cold's" release, according to our pals at MTV RapFix, many fans and hip-hop bloggers thought West had taken things one step too far with the lyric. Some thought West, one of the most acclaimed hip-hop stars in the game, was above taking petty shots and threatening a man's livelihood over his (new at the time) girlfriend's personal problems.

It seems, however, that Humphries got the last laugh.

Beyonce

Fan-made recreations of big budget pop music videos are a tricky business. Want an even trickier one? Recreating a Beyonce video without upsetting her notoriously devout fans. But we think we know one young boy who may have pulled it off.

While recreating professional-level sets, photography and hair and makeup is darn near impossible, the stars of viral videos make up for it with sass and, usually, a hook that sets them apart from both the other imitators and the stars themselves.

For one big Beyonce fan, the hook comes in his astounding ability to edit his recreation of "Countdown" almost exactly as it was done by the video's director … but the sass is all in the Snuggie.

That's right, YouTube user KKPalmer1000's interpretation of Beyonce's Adria Petty co-directed clip is essential a shot-for-shot remake of the original that manages to remarkably mimic its color-blocked style and rapid fire cuts, while, inexplicably (though no one's arguing it's hella funny), including the maligned-but-very popular piece of loungewear.

Looking to raise awareness for a very important and personal subject, pop singer Jasmine Villegas is highlighting the epidemic of domestic violence in the video for her latest single, "Didn't Mean It."

Villegas is best known for playing Justin Bieber's love interest in his "Baby" video, the 18-year-old singer talked to our pals over at MTV Buzzworthy about why she chose to tackle such a serious topic.

"This topic is very important to me because it's something I experienced firsthand for over a year in a bad relationship. Fortunately for me, I was able to get out relatively early, and now I want to let other women know that you don't have to feel ashamed or embarrassed about getting help," Villegas said. "I believe every woman is beautiful and sometimes we get caught up in situations or relationships that make us lose sight of how beautiful and precious we really are."

The video opens with a particularly unsettling moment, as the actor playing Villegas boyfriend pushes her to the floor drags her screaming across the room. Later, though, she takes matters into her own hands and sneaks out of the house to protect herself and end the cycle of abuse.

Our pals at MTV Buzzworthy have dug up a gem.

Ever since Justin Bieber dropped the video for his hit single "Boyfriend," people have been commenting on the clip's similarities to a video featuring another famous Justin – NSYNC's "Girlfriend." The videos share a similar look and feel, in addition to lots of muscle car showboating, plenty of choreographed dancing and more than a few pretty girls.

The tonal and stylistic similarities between the two are purely coincidental, of course. During "MTV First: Justin Bieber," Biebs told MTV News that he hasn't seen NSYNC's video, though he admitted to being influenced by Timberlake, saying, "He was young, and he did it, and he was really amazing and had such amazing music. I can't say that I would be upset when someone compares me to him."

"Girlfriend" marked a point in the NSYNC guys' careers where they were transitioning from boys into men, and for Bieber, "Boyfriend" represents the same move toward a more mature look and sound. "I think it's super cool," Bieber told MTV News of his "Boyfriend" video. "I wanted to do something a little bit more mature.
