· One of the Beatles’ key financial advisors, Neil Aspinall, has died at the age of 66. A childhood friend of Paul McCartney and George Harrison, Aspinall was at one point the band’s road manager, personal assistant and later head of the Beatles’ Apple Corps business, which handled their many financial interests.

· Do whatever you want to yourself on stage, but, please, keep the violence to a minimum on those CDs. The U.S. version of the new album from Be Your Own Pet, Get Awkward, will be three songs shorter because the band's label, Universal Records, thought the tracks "Blow Yr Mind," "Black Hole" and "Becky" were too violent. Somewhere out there, label mates Eminem and Marilyn Manson are dining on live human baby hearts they cut out with rusty butter knives and laughing. [UPDATE: Word from inside the group's camp is that the three songs will be available in the UK as an EP, and possibly with the same artwork as the album, except with a red circle-and-slash over it. Kinda great!]

· Primus are reuniting (sort of, we guess) to headline their hometown's inaugural Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival, in San Francisco, this August. Beck, Wilco, Widespread Panic, Devendra Banhart, Cold War Kids, Ben Harper, Regina Spektor and Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings are also on the bill.

· We think the trailer for the upcoming Suge Knight reality show is awesome. Seriously, it’s great and we have no problem with it at all. [via Nah Right]

audrinakedstory

Remember when those scandalous nudie photos of "The Hills" star Audrina Patridge hit the internet like a week ago?

Yeah. Those were good times.

I mean, some of us debated the merits of the photos and whether or not, strategically, such a thing was good for her career or not (I mean, it's no Lindsay Lohan sex tape but you take what you can get when you're on cable), or whether the hills were manmade or natural, and other crude things like that.

Well, when news broke, MTV News super-producer Akshay Bhansali came sprinting across the Newsroom floor last week to show us a tape he had shot of Audrina back in 2005, when she was ostensibly 22.

He sent along this note, too, a little later:

Now I’m not here to bite the hand that feeds me but merely to point to another side – possibly the backside - of "The Hills." Call me a hater, but we all KNOW how bad these chicks want to be famous. They follow formulaic and tested methods of marketing and image shaping.

So yeah, back in '05 when Akshay was producing for the now-defunct MTV Desi (the South Asian MTV channel, except in America, and only if you paid extra; trust us, it was great!), he caught up with clothing designer Anand Jon at the South Asian Media Awards, and, well, guess who was one of the models on his arm?

So they're not naked pictures of Audrina BUT THIS IS THE BEST WE COULD DO WITH THE RESTRAINTS THAT WE HAVE OF BEING A 'FAMILY COMPANY.' Or something. Please Mr. Viacom, don't fire us.More after the jump. Read More...

We here at the Newsroom were pretty surprised to see Jesse McCartney’s video for his new single (don't call it a comeback, yo!), "Leavin." It's a far cry from his Beautiful Soul days, but maybe that sweet kid thing wasn't working out for him. It's a simple video but very racy. You know, he's gotta prove he's all grown up, not a teenager anymore, blah blah blah.

His album hits stores May 20th, and features his work with Sean Garrett, The Dream ("Umbrella, ella, ella"), The Clutch (seriously - there's a guy named 'The Clutch'), and Tricky Stewart. That is to say, Jesse isn't just all grown up, he's all R&B'ed out 'cause HE KNOWS YOU NEED SEXIN'. Or something. Jesse explains his video and then the actual video, below.

OMG HE'S ALL GROWNS UP.

From MTV News' Jennifer Vineyard:

Michelle Trachtenberg was "the key" on "Buffy" -- but will she now unlock secrets on "Gossip Girl"? MTV News caught up with the saucy actress on the day it was announced that she'd been cast on the hit CW show for a few episodes in May - sweeps week, yo - which also happened to be during the "Buffy" reunion. Trachtenberg will play Georgina Sparks, who comes fresh off a stint in rehab to torture Serena and Blair. How she put it:

What sort of stuff? Well, try for starters the real reason Serena left town in the first place. And Georgina, as you might recall from the books, knows Chuck from taking his virginity (in the sixth grade), knows the Dutch snowboarding team from hottubbing with them naked, and knows her former fling Nate from rehab. Could that be where she really met Serena as well? This could be great! And remember, this juicy role is something Mischa Barton was rumored to have originally turned down.Trachtenberg starts work on the show this week in New York, and will appear in four of the show's five episodes for the second season, with her first appearance airing on April 28.

Our general regard for Chicago's Rhymefest extends far beyond the actual impact he made when he came out a couple of years back, even with the help of Kanye West. I mean, dude had some great stuff to say about the state of hip-hop on My Block Chicago.

Anyway, the Mixtape Monday crew got up with him last week to talk about this Michael Jackson thing he has going on now. Peep the video.

· Dude, some of us know the feeling! A 12-year old Bloomington, Indiana boy was arrested last week, accused of throwing a rock through a Soulja Boy tour bus windshield. His reason? He told cops simply, "I hate Soulja Boy." Seriously!

· The Roots are having a picnic, and you're invited. The Philly-band are throwing a show in their hometown on June 7th, along with guests Gnarls Barkley, Deerhoof, Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings, Diplo and Newsroom favorite Santogold. The Roots' new album, Rising Down, is out in April.

· Speaking of Gnarls and Deerhoof, they’re also on the bill for the 10th annual KCRW World Festival at the Hollywood Bowl. Also taking the stage will be: Devendra Banhart, Feist, Ozomatli, Nortec Collective. and Michael Franti.

We around the Newsroom are a little jealous of James Montgomery's upcoming trip to Chile and Antarctica. He's going to be "reporting" on Fall Out Boy's attempt to set the world record for playing all seven continents in the shortest amount of time. (Totally suspect on all fronts, James.) Fall Out Boy are playing to a team of international research scientists in a facility gymnasium. Also, they are flying out there on a private jet owned by the Harlem Globetrotters. It is like an episode of "Scooby Doo"!

We realize this is the third time we've written about this trip this week, but we are only hoping that if we mention it enough times, our boss might realize how integral we are to the story and send us down there too.

Anyway, James has totally been in his office avoiding the college basketball brackets and instead discovering all sorts of things to be afraid of while he's down there. The video below is what he came up with.

chartgh

Total nerd alert (but in a good way):

Our friends at the MTV Multiplayer blog - for all your video game needs - have a chart given to Activision by Gibson Guitars showing how Activision's "Guitar Hero" game supposedly infringes on technology patented by Gibson. Oddly enough, the charts are part of Activision's portion of the suit. They're basically taunting the guitar-maker, "See how silly Gibson is for thinking that our game could infringe on their silly patent." See for yourself.

· Here in the office we are loving the new Big Boi song, "Royal Flush," featuring Raekwon and Andre 3000, which hit the net late last night. It's the first track to leak from Big Boi's solo album, Sir Luscious Left Foot, and while we are big, big fans of Big Boi (super-slept-on as a lyricist), once again his Outkast brother-in-arms, Andre 3000, kinda outshines him. We can't legally post the link here but if you're a savvy internet user, you'll find it.

· When the new album by funny, bespectacled Elvis Costello is released on April 22, it will be on vinyl only. Titled Momofuku, in reference to the popular NYC restaurant of the same name, all vinyl copies will include a voucher for a digital download version of the album. Poor CD feels all left out.

· A few days ago, there was lots of chatter about The Raconteurs' new album, Consolers of the Lonely being released on March 25, just a couple of weeks after Jack White turned in the final masters. Today, iTunes, mistakenly put the album up for download, and reports are that a handful of lucky folks downloaded the tunes. They have since shut down the accidental sale, but no doubt someone's already ripped it to a CD and put it out in the ether. Hi, Jack!

howimetbritney

Hey, did you hear that Britney Spears is a special guest on the sitcom "How I Met Your Mother" next Monday? You didn't? Maybe you haven't been on the internet lately. Maybe you haven't been watching March Madness, which, teases the show incessantly in between bracket-busting layups.

Anyway, she is.

As a guest.

Possibly a recurring character.

Her fellow actors - the regulars - say that she's actually pretty good, but then again, they sorta get paid to say that.

You can actually check it out for yourself. We did. And you know what, she's not half-bad. MAYBE THIS IS WHERE THE COMEBACK STARTS.

(Also, maybe not).
