By Uptin Saiidi

New York, NY – If you've ever been to a Skrillex concert, you'll know that tickets can be hard to come by and there's a good chance your standards of personal space were replaced by fist pumping teens as you find yourself questioning the fire code in between sets. While EDM shows only continue to gain in popularity, many wonder, what led to the explosion of EDM music in the past year?

An event during Social Media Week in New York City ventured to guess. Held Thursday night in the East Village, "How Social Media Has Fueled the Explosive Growth of EDM in America Panel" included agents and label executives alike.

The notion being that music's discoverability is easier than ever before was at the forefront of the panel. The ease of learning and sharing your favorite songs has become instant and easy. And even if you're not listening to the same music as your real-life friends, a glance no further than your Twitter feed can make you feel like you're part of a bigger community with people of similar tastes and styles in music.

“The growth of EDM is intrinsically tied to social media,” Zev Norotsky, founder of Elektro Magazine and moderator of the panel, told the crowd of about 200. He also reminded the crowd, for anyone who had any doubt about its continued growth, that global EDM sales are projected at four times that of rock and roll music.

With artists like David Guetta having nearly four million Twitter followers, it's easy for them to connect with their fans and build a loyal following.

"Swedish House Mafia is at the forefront of fan loyalty and creating viral buzz through CD release events, and it's Masquerade Ball," Norotsky said.

Allowing fans to connect with artists in ways that used to only be possible when the artist came to your hometown has really fueled its growth, according to Justin Kleinfeld, who represents Tiesto and Swedish House Mafia. “It’s the autograph, these guys are tweeting everything they’re doing from getting on an airplane to recording a single … just about anything,” the rep said. “Getting retweeted is like the new autograph."

Recent Grammy Award winner Skrillex's agent Lee Anderson, a talent rep at AM Only, thinks social media has helped change the industry in a way that's allowed Skrillex to engage with fans. “He’s really active, he dives into the show, waits outside the tour bus,” he said. “And he’s the same way on Twitter. He connects with the fans. He responds to tweets.”

It's not just about connecting fans with artists through the Internet, though. Eddie Dean, president of nightclub chain Pacha, said they used different apps to help promote their events, which can ultimately be less turnaround time. "We used to have an entire program to announce a guy," he said. "Now with social media, we can just do it a week before."

Do you think Social Media is to credit for EDM's explosion? Share your comments below!

While the "S**t So and So Says" meme is a few weeks past its expiration date, we had to share this bit of goodness courtesy of the fine folks at "30 Rock."

NBC has assembled its own clip to add to the viral cannon, "S**t Liz Lemon Says." Anyone who's ever watched Tina Fey in action as Lemon knows she is a sound bite machine. (Tell me you don't know someone who says "I want to go to there" regularly?)

Check it out below. We promise to never contribute to the proliferation of this meme again. Unless, you know, a really funny one comes along in which case, yes, we totally will.

Our favorite married couple, "Will & Grace" Emmy winner (and ever-present sitcom guest star) Megan Mullally and "Parks and Recreation" star Nick Offerman, have made a music video … and it showcases everything we love about them.

The hilarious pair sing a country-western love song with a twist – he's a paleontologist and she's a creationist. Uh oh! Lovebirds with a very different point of view on a controversial topic. Seems ripe for parody and Offerman and Mullally do not disappoint!

The clip is loaded with the same off-the-wall humor that makes the pair's onscreen collaboration on "Parks and Rec" (she plays his crazy ex-wife) so awesome.

Is there any way we can pass a law that, regardless of what happens down the road, these two can never ever in a hundred million years get a divorce? They are the perfect team and give us faith that love still exists in this sad world!

Oh no, you guys, the Queen is pissed!

Yesterday, a demo version of what was widely assumed to be the lead single from Madonna's forthcoming record leaked online and everyone lost their minds about it for a hot second. The song, "Give Me All Your Love" featuring Nicki Minaj, received a standing ovation from the Internet, even in its unfinished form. "Give Me" is like a hybrid of early-80s Madonna and early aughts Madonna – think "Jimmy Jimmy" from True Blue meets "Beautiful Stranger" – and yeah, it's pretty great.

Except Madonna is all, "Why'd you guys blow my spot?" Actually, what she said, according to her manager Guy Oseary, is much worse – in that sad way where you feel bad about something even though you had nothing to do with it. Earlier today, Oseary took to Twitter to lament the demo leak, saying, "Madonna told me this morning 'my true fans wouldn't do this.'"

He went on to admit that he, and presumably Madonna, were happy with the positive reaction to the song, but asked that whoever leaked "Give Me All your Love" stop. He even requested that Her Madgesty's fans "police any more leaks."

Would you buy a used car from Saul Goodman?

Okay, how about from Bob Odenkirk, the actor who plays the shadiest lawyer on the planet on "Breaking Bad?" The Black Keys seem to think you would, which might explain why they dressed Odenkirk up in the cheapest-looking polyester suit they could find and hired him to help hawk their upcoming Danger Mouse-produced album, El Camino.

Odenkirk does his damndest to get the right car in the frame during the fake one-minute ad allegedly shot in December 1996, but all he succeeds in doing is creating one of the best viral video album spots in recent memory.

The fake ad campaign is the weapon of choice for a lot of artists these days, with Eminem taking the lead in the game by employing the tactic on both his comeback 2009 Relapse album and the multi-platinum 2010 follow-up, Recovery.

In the first series of phony spots, Em checked into the fictitious Popsomp Hills Rehab Center, while the next summer's "Emwow" spots showed off the slicing, dicing, mincing properties of the rapper's latest disc.

We won't count the Insane Clown Posse's annual epic sales videos hyping their Gathering of the Juggalos events, but suffice it to say that in addition to seeming like parodies themselves, they've inspired a hilarious round of spoofs from the fine folks at "Saturday Night Live." (Shout out to Lil Blaster, I see you girl!)

Arcade Fire got into the act in 2007, enlisting their guitarist Richard Reed Perry to unveil the track listing for their Neon Bible album wile wearing a creepy mask and wielding a megaphone. The clip had Perry sitting in a director's chair (singer Win Butler's seat, actually) while waving his Juno Award as the album's song titles bounced across the screen along with a 1-866 number at the end that allowed you to pre-order the disc.

Other creepy clips followed, including a 30-second one with backwards-masking bible talk and a longer three-minute cut featuring an actual neon bible, a magic video tape, sad testimonials and incredibly cheesy graphics.

Chill wave hipsters Neon Indian didn't want to be left out, so they upped the ante with a disturbing, jumpy commercial for the fictional PAL198X keyboard, the TeleTouch and a handful of other fake products promoting the band's recently released Era Extrana album.

What's your favorite fake album informercial?

Exciting news! On Tuesday, Lisa Kudrow’s genius, award-winning web series “Web Therapy” will debut on Showtime.

The mostly improvised web series follows Fiona Wallice (Kudrow), a therapist Kudrow describes as “self-serving with little patience, very judgmental” who treats patients via brief webcam sessions. The webisodes run from three to fourteen minutes, and Showtime will compile them, along with new footage shot specifically for TV, into 10 half-hour episodes. Bringing the show to TV means an entirely new audience will be introduced to the fantastic characters developed by guest stars like Jane Lynch, Rashida Jones, Meryl Streep, Alan Cumming, Courteney Cox, Molly Shannon and Victor Garber over the web series’ 48-episode run.

Seriously, this thing is amazeballs. Check it out for yourself below.

When I went there, I found that to be the exact opposite of what it actually is. You see it appears to be some robot-like site that generates the message: "The requested document is totally fake. Even tried multi. Nothing helped. I'm really depressed about this. And it goes on and on in about being a depressed robot or web server or something you seems to be having some sort of identity crisis: I mean, it's not your job to listen to my problems, and I guess it is my job to go and fetch web pages for you. But I couldn't get this one. I'm so sorry. Believe me!"

OK, OK, we believe you. And we're actually just sort of bummed that it's not a Jonas site, but instead some mysterious site run by a guy named Joonas in Finland. (This is true. We did our research.) Unfortunately that's all we know at this point, but we're thinking he's either an artist who is pranking us, or that Joonas is really some sort of depressed Web server. If it's the latter, we're here to talk!

You might even call them veterans. But they need your help on their summer tour.

When Gwen and the boys get up on stage to play their first hit, "Just a Girl", the video playing on the big screens will be you. And your friends. And your pets.

The band is asking you to do your best impression of Gwen from way back in '95 and upload footage of yourself for them to use on tour. Complete details and submission can be found at NoDoubt.com. The deadline is May 1, so get shootin' and uploadin', even if you're just a boy.

Pretty cool, huh? We thought so too. And it got us thinking that we'd heard this idea before. Lo and behold, MTV News met some crazy No Doubt fans back in 1997 who had the same idea. They dressed up like Gwen, went to a show and even got to meet the band.
