Adele

It’s Adele’s world and we’re just living in it. Since its release, Adele’s sophomore album, 21, has been No. 1 on the Billboard 200 for an amazing 12 non-consecutive weeks – that’s the most time any album has logged at the top since Santana’s “Supernatural” 11 years ago.

And come next Sunday, Adele fever will probably spike as the relatively low-profile soul diva hits the MTV Video Music Awards stage for the first time ever, competing for the title of most water cooler-worthy performance with the likes of Lady Gaga, Lil’ Wayne and Chris Brown.

Amy Doyle, executive vice president of music and talent at MTV, hyped Adele’s performance to the Associated Press, saying that Adele would “"bring chills down everybody's spine, if not bring them to tears, too,"”

Judging from that comment, I’m guessing that means that Adele will be performing her second single, “Someone Like You,” a powerful ballad that the British songstress penned herself.

If she does choose to perform “Someone,” the timing is great. “Rolling in the Deep” has been all over radio and TV for the entire summer, so it’s time for something new. And the slower and gentler sound of “Someone Like You” is perfect for the rapidly approaching fall.

I’m tremendously excited to hear Adele belt out “Someone Like You” because it is quite simply a brilliant song – one that will surely become a classic in the years to come. The story of the song is autobiographical, as Adele sings about the pain of trying to get over a devastating breakup. Read More...

Adele

By Zachary Swickey

Our favorite British songbird Adele has admitted to kickin’ back grandpa’s old cough medicine in order to write honest, introspective lyrics.

The starlet spoke with The Sun about her songwriting process during sessions for 21. “I used to have to lock myself away in my house, get pretty drunk, and write a drunk diary – and that was the first time I could admit things to myself,” she said.

Apparently, Adele feels drinking puts her heart on her sleeve. “A drunk tongue is an honest one in my opinion and the next morning I would read it through with an awful hangover and, in the cold light of day, had to absorb my feelings about myself.”

While we’re not worried about Adele – the girl seems to have her head on straight and is clearly doing just fine with seven MTV Video Music Award nomination – in June, MTV News spoke to Dr. Karen Khaleghi, founder and education director of Creative Care Malibu, concerning Amy Winehouse and she warned against the dangers that can occur when an artist “feels they need to be in an altered state to be at their creative best.” Read More...

Adele is still shining in the spotlight with her wildly popular album 21, but the singer is already thinking about her upcoming third album, which she claims will be inspired by the bluegrass sounds found here in the United States.

The singer talked about her newfound love of the South in an interview with The Sun, and it seems like she might even record the album there.

“I was exposed to a lot of country, rockabilly, and bluegrass because I was touring for such a long time. The melodies and to-the-point lyrics I have found in a lot of American styles of music is definitely something I’m going to be pursuing heavily from now on,” Adele said. “I want to spend time in Austin in Texas and Nashville, Tennessee, and learn about it.”

She clearly has a soft spot for the new music she’s discovering, and is still finding new great artists on a regular basis. “I feel like a four-year-old in a candy shop who’s discovering sweets again. Every day is amazing when it comes to discovering new artists.”

Adele is not planning on taking a break or hiatus anytime soon either, as she claims she’ll hit the studio following her rescheduled run of dates here in the U.S. this fall. Read More...
