Sleigh Bells

Brooklyn natives Derek Miller and Alexis Krauss of the popular indie rock outfit Sleigh Bells are big Beyonce fans. So are we, so we totally get it. They even had the chance to collaborate (kind of) with the superstar diva last year, and though the fruits of their labor never saw the light of day, the pair not only voiced their desire to work with her again to NME but also recorded a stripped down cover of her smash hit "Irreplaceable" to show how much they adore her.

"Obviously we're massive fans of her and she's a living legend. I'd love to actually work with her someday when I actually get some creative input," Miller, who mans the guitars for Bells, told NME. "I wouldn't say that it [the project] failed, it just feels like it never really happened."

Listen:

Here in the MTV Newsroom, we're loving Sleigh Bells' "Irreplaceable" cover. Their version is positively ethereal and if it's not enough to convince Queen Bey to hit the studio with the Bells for at least one of the two albums she's reportedly planning, we don't know what will.

Sleigh Bells' sophomore album, Reign of Terror dropped late last month. And if you're interested in checking out some other fantastic indie band covers of some of B's biggest hits, listen to a few over on Stereogum.

Check out Sleigh Bells live in NYC, after the jump. Read More...

Beyonce

By Kevin Lavi

Are you ready to be on a track with Beyonce?

Following her first public appearance since the birth of her daughter Blue Ivy Carter on Monday at Jay-Z's Carnegie Hall gig and 40/40 club, Beyonce had a major announcement for her fans on Wednesday.

The "Love on Top" singer is holding a contest to see which one of her fans can come up with the best remix to her song "End of Time" from her album 4. Fans can submit their remixes on Beyonce's website, where they can also download stems from the 4 song.

The fan that submits the best remix will win $4,000 and be included on a future release by Beyonce. While no exact details on the future release were given, the opportunity to be on any Beyonce release should have fans racing to make the best remix they possibly can.

The contest hints to “End of Time" – which following 4's release charted on Billboards Bubbling Under Chart based on digital downloads alone – possibly being the fifth single from 4.

For more on the contest, read on. Read More...

Destiny's Child

Former Destiny's Child Michelle Williams already let us know that she does not need to congratulate her friend Beyonce on Twitter when she can do it in person, #thankyouverymuch!

So when Williams hit the red carpet for this weekend's BET Honors, reporters were curious if she'd met little Blue Ivy Carter. Well, she has and had nothing but glowing things to say. "She is absolutely gorgeous. We were all in love," Williams told USA Today on the red carpet. "They [Beyonce and Jay-Z] have already settled into their role of being parents, and it's just awesome to see. They might have inspired me a little bit, but this ring finger got to get a little more heavy first!"

Williams' happy words come on the heels of a Twitter tongue-lashing after she was criticized for not offering well-wishes on the social network following Blue Ivy's birth. "Let's get ONE thing straight....I do NOT have to say congrats to someone when they're NOT on twitter...ESPECIALLY when I talk or email them all the time....or when I'll be physically present as well," she wrote. "This is a beautiful, precious, private time between two people and excitement is to be expected but NOT disrespect! #churchdismissed"

Also on hand at the BET Honors was Kelly Rowland, who was a little more coy about B.I.C. Read More...

The Onion decided to have a little bit of fun with all of the ridiculous rumors surrounding Beyonce and Jay-Z's baby girl Blue Ivy Carter and is breaking news that the evil witch Grisora has come to claim the superstar's first born as payment for Beyonce's perfect singing voice 15 years ago.

Here's how it all went down:

"When Beyonce was a young girl, she met a magical witch named Grisora in the woods while gathering berries and Grisora told Beyonce she would make her sing with the unmatched beauty of a thousand nightingales in return for her first born child," gossip columnist Bryan Spees tells "StarFix."

It seems Grisora has been keeping tabs on Bey and was even in the front row at the VMAs when she revealed her pregnancy (a tough ticket to get, Bryan notes) and even though Jay-Z offered her a room full of gold to go away, Grisora would not be dissuaded.

Take a little breather from all the Blue ivy craziness and watch the Onion's clip below:

Dianne Warren

By Kara Warner

If you think you haven't heard of Diane Warren, you've definitely heard a dozen or so of her chart-topping, award-winning songs. The prolific songwriter has written songs for Celine Dion, Elton John, LeAnn Rimes, Mary J. Blige, Toni Braxton and most recently Cher, Justin Bieber and Beyonce. She is a double Grammy nominee this year for "You Haven’t Seen The Last of Me" from "Burlesque" and "Born to Be Somebody" from "Never Say Never" in the category of Best Song Written For Visual Media.

MTV News was lucky enough to catch up with Warren recently to talk about the stories behind her nominated songs for Cher and Justin Bieber, as well as some inside scoop about how "I Was Here" almost didn't make it on Beyonce's 4 album.

MTV News: Congratulations on your two Grammy nominations!

Diane Warren: Thank you. It is nice to be nominated, but I always lose [laughs]. I’ve never been up against myself and I’ve never had two songs in the same category. I’m happy to have had one. It’s pretty cool. I’ve been telling as many people as I can, "You have two choices guys!" It’s amazing, there’s almost a 50 year age difference between [Cher and Bieber]. It’s like, "Alright that’s diversity."

Everybody is always running to Twitter to share their every thought and feeling. The same is true of celebrities, who share even the most banal details on the social-networking site. Recently, Twitter saw an influx of congratulations for a very famous singer and her hip-hop mogul husband on the birth of their new baby, but notably absent from the choir of congrats was Michelle Williams, former Destiny's Child and current gospel singer and Broadway star.

You see, Miz Williams didn't think it appropriate to hit the tweet button to congratulate Beyonce on the birth of little Blue Ivy. She apparently got a little ribbing from fans for not issuing a statement the way many of Bey and Jay's other friends, from Rihanna to Gwyneth Paltrow, did and finally took to Twitter to let us all know why.

"Let's get ONE thing straight....I do NOT have to say congrats to someone when they're NOT on twitter...ESPECIALLY when I talk or email them all the time....or when I'll be physically present as well," she replied to one irate fan.

"My friendship with people aren't always for twitter display," Williams continued. "Respect that and get a LIFE!!! Enjoy this FINE day!!! God bless!!!!"

But that's not all! Read More...

We often read crazy stories in the news that seem too wildly outrageous to be true, but when there’s a police report to back-up the insanity it’s hard to argue. Case in point: Ronald Deaver, a 31-year-old man who shanked a dude for not knowing the marital status of Jay-Z and Beyonce. (Now, that s**t cray!).

Fox News reports that one hour before we rung in 2012, Deaver allegedly stabbed a 48-year-old man outside his apartment in Parma, Ohio, and has been charged with felonious assault for the incident. Det. Marty Compton says the fight began “because the victim did not know that singer Beyonce’s husband is rapper Jay-Z.” The officer says authorities were called following the stabbing and the victim was rushed to a local hospital before being transferred to MetroHealth Medical Center, where he is currently in good condition. For our favorite celebrities, the red carpet is the place to make a big statement. From outrageous fashion to borderline crazy antics, it all happens on the way into an event.

Check out MTV News' Most-Memorable Red Carpet Moments!

But who really brought their A-game to the carpet in 2011? Well, Lady Gaga for one. People will be talking for years to come about her arrival at this year’s Grammy Awards. No, she didn’t have on another meat dress. She arrived in an egg, silly! It had something to do with being in gestational creative state or something. Some thought it was pretty awesome, others considered it just plain weird. Love it or hate it, if you were watching, you won’t soon forget it!

Also causing a stir at the Grammy was our girl Snooki, who co-hosted MTV’s coverage with Sway Calloway. But the real buzz came from MTV’s own red carpets. At the Movie Awards, “Twilight” starlet Nikki Reed announced her engagement to “American Idol” finalist Paul McDonald (the pair wed in October). And at the VMAs, Justin Bieber introduced us to his snake, Johnson. His pet snake, a baby boa constrictor, just to be clear.

Then there was Beyonce. Oh, Queen Bey! Without warning the R&B superstar, who was one of MTV News' Top Newsmakers of 2011, showed up on the VMA red carpet in a striking orange Lanvin dress, and though she didn’t talk to the press, she caressed her belly in a way that pretty much said it all!

Which red carpet moment was tops in 2011? Let us know by voting in our poll after the jump! Read More...

The time has come!

Last week, we opened voting to find out which 2011 videos from fan-favorite artists Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, Britney Spears, Beyonce and Chris Brown were your favorites of the year and after several thousand votes were cast, we have the results!

So which videos ruled the roost in 2011? Check 'em out below.

Katy Perry, "The One that Got Away"

Katy's most recent clip dominated the competition, taking 54.76 percent of the vote. "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)" held it up in second with 30.73 percent while Katy's spring smash "E.T." nabbed only 14.51 percent of the vote (probably because the visual spectacle is further back in people's memories than her more recent vids).

Read on for the fan-favorite videos from Swift, Brit, Queen Bey and Chris Brown! Read More...
