Lookin' good!

On vacation in Hawaii, pop superstar and (apparently tough) "X Factor" judge Britney Spears showed off a side of herself we used to see all the time but which has been a bit more allusive in recent years – her flawless abs.

Flanked by her young sons Sean Preston, 6, and Jayden James, 5, the "Till The World Ends" star posed for a pic, which she posted to her Twitter for fans to enjoy, before heading out for some fun in the sun with her boys and fiance Jason Trawick. She looks as healthy and happy as we've ever seen her!

"Getting ready for some pool time! Having a blast xxoo," she tweeted.

X Factor

By Zachary Swickey

The upcoming revamped second season of Fox’s “The X Factor” is sure to be interesting now that Britney Spears and Demi Lovato have replaced Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger as judges alongside industry vet L.A. Reid and the program’s mastermind, Simon Cowell.

Season two doesn’t kick off until September 12, but auditions are well underway for the program. A new YouTube vid interview posted on “X Factor’s” official account provides a glimpse into the season two auditions in Providence, Rhode Island.

We’re first shown the dramatic entrance from the individual judges as they exit their limos and walk the red carpet with fans screaming wildly. Cowell’s entrance is a little more comical as he is seen driving a small scooter – complete with several motorcycle patrolmen escorting him – and sneaking in through a back entrance that appears to be fan-free (what a party pooper).

In the interview, Spears is asked if she’ll let any guys through simply because they’re cute – something Reid and Cowell have admittedly been guilty of when it comes to female contestants. “I think it does help a little bit if the guy is somewhat handsome,” she says, “but I feel like for the most part we try to boil it down to talent.”

Lovato explained how difficult it can be sitting in the judge’s chair, saying, “You’re always thinking in the back of your mind, if you say no, what if that is their only shot? And you let them go when they weren’t really that bad? It’s confusing, but it’s everything I expected and more with having fun and bonding with the cast.”

“Everyone’s really great except Simon,” Lovato joked about her fellow judges. The singer seems to have plenty of nostalgic love for Spears in particular, saying, “I grew up listening to her [Spears] so it’s really awesome sitting next to her on the panel.”

Spears returned the love, saying, “Same for her [Lovato] too. I totally admire her work and everything that she’s done. It’s fun!”

Britney Spears' critically acclaimed 2007 album Blackout has not only topped a million in sales but it is now the pop star's only album to be added to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's music library and archives. The Hall developed the archive to be the "most comprehensive repository of materials relating to the history of rock and roll … in order to broaden awareness and understanding of rock and roll, its roots, and its impact on our society."

The Celebrity Café reported earlier today (June 13) that the album was added to the archive this month, so we reached out to the Hall of Fame to get the details on the acquisition.

"We purchased that CD a few months ago as part of a project involving the acquisition of the most critically acclaimed albums of the past couple of decades," Andy Leach, director of Library and Archives at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, tells MTV News via email.

Leach cited the album's appearance on Rolling Stone's list of the top 50 albums of 2007 as the reason it ended up on the Rock Hall's list of album's to acquire and archive.

Esteem for the album, which was released during a particularly turbulent time in Spears' life that culminated a few months after Blackout's release with the singer being physically removed from her home by police, placed in an ambulance and escorted to the UCLA Medical Center, has grown in the years since its release.

In a 2010 blog post talking about Spears' demo of Lady Gaga's "Telephone" (the song was originally written for Spears and was recorded by Gaga only after she decided against using it), Rolling Stone paid the album a very big compliment, writing, "People love to make fun of Britney, and why not, but if 'Telephone' proves anything, it's that Blackout may be the most influential pop album of the past five years."

It seems the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame seems to agree.

Things were a little different for Britney Spears in 2007 as the release of her fifth studio album, Blackout, neared. Her private life had long since overtaken her professional achievements in the headlines and she was dealing with personal struggles that culminated just a few months later in the singer being physically removed from her home by police, placed in an ambulance and escorted to the UCLA Medical Center.

Despite the chaos in her private life, Blackout received widespread critical acclaim. The notoriously indie-minded folks at Pitchfork declared it "superb modern pop," while Rolling Stone has argue that it "may be the most influential pop album of the past five years."

Five years is an interesting timeframe … because that's just about how long it took the fan-favorite set to go platinum. Billboard revealed the statistic this weekend while answer fan questions about the career album sales of Spears and Demi Lovato relating to their new gigs on "The X Factor." The music pub did not detail exactly when* the set, which dropped in October 2007, finally crossed the million mark, but in discussing the achievement, the Celebrity Cafe did reveal something we never knew before … that Spears' army of fans actively rallied behind the album last year intent to get Blackout certified platinum.

In July of last year, with sales hovering somewhere around 990,000 copies, fans held what was called "Blackout Purchase Week," an event that did result in an album sales spike that narrowed the gap to one million even further.

A little less than a year later*, Nielsen Soundscan data indicates that Blackout has officially become her sixth million-plus-selling studio album, leaving only her seventh album, last year's Femme Fatale, out of the club with around 755,000 copies sold. Spears' 2004 Greatest Hits: My Prerogative also enjoys platinum status, having sold 1.4 million copies.

So congrats, Brit! Hopefully the news will spice up all those long hours she's putting in on the set of "The X Factor."

*Ed note: Because there was a little confusion, Billboard clarified that Blackout actually passed 1 million in sales the week ending July 24, 2011. So it looks like "Blackout Purchase Week" was quite effective!

Mariah Carey

Yesterday, Mariah Carey was awesome because of the insanely lavish first birthday party she threw DemBabies. Today, Mariah Carey is awesome because she doesn't give a crap about Britney Spears being on "The X Factor."

She doesn't mean that as an insult to Spears either. In fact, it's quite the opposite. Let us explain.

Asked by "Extra" what she thought about Britney's new role as a judge on the singing competition alongside Demi Lovato, Simon Cowell and L.A. Reid, Carey did what she does best – gave a blatantly honest answer that simultaneously praised Spears while throwing a little shade at "Factor."

(Man, do we love Mariah Carey. She's the best shade-thrower in the game.)

"You think I focus on that stuff? Have we met?" the diva asked. "I love her [Britney], honestly, I think she's a very nice person, but I don't care who's going on that show – as long as it's not me."

BOOM!

Carey was briefly linked to the role shortly after Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul were let go. Check out the action in all its glory, after the jump. Read More...

Pop Bab

Fan fiction is all the rage and if you need evidence just look at the New York Times bestseller list, where "50 Shades of Grey," which was originally developed from an erotic "Twilight" fan fiction entitled "Master of the Universe," is a huge hit and has kind of opened the flood gates.

The latest addition to the cannon: "Pop Baby Krissy Doucet," about an out-of-work dancer ("Keenan Fazio") who strikes the fancy of pop princess Krissy Doucet. A blurb from the book indicates "Krissy" becomes so smitten with "Keenan" she can barely think straight.

"The moment Krissy set her sights on Keenan, she knew he was amazing. Choosing him at the club was one of the best decisions of her life," the blurb reads. "Yet how can she compete with the beautiful Tara Butler? A woman from Keenan's past who understands his sexual desires. Would sharing Keenan in Tara's bed be their only option for love?"

Yowza! With the exception of the bed sharing (which, um, well…), doesn't this story sound kind of familiar?

What if we added this: "Sex, drugs, and rock 'n' roll might seem like a great theme for a seventies movie, but for Keenan and Krissy it is their way of life," the blurb continues. "The paparazzi say they are in lust, not love. For them, lust and love go hand in hand."

Would it make even more sense if we told you the $4 e-book was written by Diane Story, aunt of Kevin Federline?

OHHHHHH.

According to the official site, "Pop Baby Krissy Doucet" will be in stores April 26 and a sequel "Pop Baby Maddy Fortin" will be released next month. Story also created a contest on her website where the winner can win an actual wedding invitation from Spears and Federline's 2004 wedding. So there's also that…

Britney Spears began seeing Federline when he was her back-up dancer in 2004. They announced their engagement soon after, while Kevin's ex-girlfriend Shar Jackson was pregnant with their second child, and married in October 2004. The couple had two children, Sean Preston and Jayden James, before divorcing in 2007.

We love it when celebs use Twitter for good instead of evil, and last night, two of the biggest pop stars around hit the site with a whole lot of love for each other.

Lady Gaga has never made her Britney Spears fandom a secret. During her MTV First (after the jump), she confessed that she used to call in to vote for Brit Brit on "TRL," saying that on the days she couldn't make it to Time Square to join in the fun she "would lay in bed and I would be speed dialing for Britney to have the #1 video." And last year when she presented Spears with her Video Vanguard VMA the two had a near-miss kiss that got everyone talking.

So it's no surprise then that Gaga, who leaves for South Korea today to prep for the April 27 kick off of her "Born This Way Ball" in Seoul, hit Twitter last night with a packing list and high up on it was her Britney thermos (below).

Lady Gaga, Twitter

After seeing Gaga's tweet, Britney responded with a bit of curiosity ("Wonder what @ladygaga keeps in the thermos?") and what seems like a promise to see Mother Monster on the road ("Can't wait to see you on tour. MISS YOU!").

While their stand may sometimes battle it out online, it's fantastic to see that these two seem to have a lot of love and respect for each other. Check out Lady Gaga talking about Britney and her "TRL" fan days below! Read More...

Looking good!

While she's never far from our thoughts, it's been a while since we've seen Britney Spears in action. But the pop star has clearly been working hard since wrapping up her Femme Fatale tour in December, as pics from the set of her new commercial for Twister Dance attest.

The star is the new face of the DVD-based dance and party game, which offers 40 dance lessons of varying levels of intensity for up to four players. "Dancing has been such an important part of my life since I was a little girl," Spears said in a press release from game maker Hasbro. "As soon as I saw the new Twister Dance game, I knew I wanted to be involved. I think kids will love rocking the spots and dancing to the music as much as my boys and I do. It’s a lot of fun!"

And apparently it pays off! Check out Spears' toned arms and abs in this still she posted to Twitter from the commercial shoot. Rocking a vest, black bra top and tight black pants, the 30-year-old star looks better than ever.

Britney Spears

Last night, yet another unreleased Britney Spears song leaked online and it got us thinking about the seemingly never-ending run of leaked Brit-Brit songs and what many of them have in common.

"Ouch" is a fantastic, mid-tempo jam about heartbreak with a clean beat and a strong vocal performance from Spears, whose vibrato is on point throughout the two-minute snippet that appeared on the web. We love Britney and have a pretty good feel for her oeuvre and think "Ouch" is at least as good as, if not way better than, well, about half of what makes it on any given Britney album.

(Listen here.)

Like many pop stars, Britney records tons of songs for each planned album and along with her producers, A&R people, management and, goodness sakes who knows, the pool guy, edits it down to a 12-ish song set that (hopefully) feels like one coherent entity. That leaves plenty of good tracks, including "Ouch," on the cutting room floor.

Many of those discarded songs have found their way online and given how good some of them are, we had a thought. Why not release an EP of the best of Britney's discarded gems. Something comparable in length to Lady Gaga's The Fame Monster EP. We could call it Britney: The Cutting Room Floor Collection. Or Britney: Look At All These Great Songs I Forgot To Release, Y'all. Maybe Britney: The Best of the Rest. (If you have a better idea, feel free to share it in the comments below!)

So, with "Ouch" already on the roster, we need six more songs that leaked online without an official release. Let's get started! Read More...

In September 2010, Britney Spears' former bodyguard Fernando Flores filed a sexual harassment lawsuit against the "Till The World Ends" singer, alleging, among other things, that during his brief, early 2010 employment by the singer she "made repeated unwanted sexual advances, summoning Plaintiff to her room at her residence for no other purpose or reason than to expose her naked or near naked body to Plaintiff" and "engaged in "numerous sexual acts in front of Plaintiff, including but not limited to having sexual intercourse."

Yikes!

At the time, Spears emphatically denied the allegations, addressing them in an official statement on her website. "This lawsuit is another unfortunate situation where someone is trying to take advantage of the Spears family and make a name for himself. The Department of Children and Family Services conducted a proper investigation surrounding Mr. Flores' accusations and have closed the case without any further action," the post reads. "Ms. Spears and her attorneys have every expectation that this matter will be dismissed by the courts."

Now, according to TMZ, a settlement has been reached in the case, though no details are being made public. Spears and her lawyers decided to pursue settlement through private mediator and not the courts. It is not known if Spears provided Flores with any financial compensation, as terms of the settlement will remain confidential.
