Lena Dunham

By Zachary Swickey

They say imitation is the most sincere form of flattery, and Judd Apatow is feeling the love, tweeting his seal of approval for a new parody video spoofing HBO’s hit comedy “Girls,” which he produces.

“Boys” is a new fake trailer lampooning the Emmy-nominated series that stars Lena Dunham (who is also show creator) and focuses on a group of twenty-something friends as they make their way through life in the Big Apple. The hilarious clip does a fantastic job of satirizing the show’s sex talk and instances of co-dependency.

Playing off the allegations of nepotism the show has weathered, "Boys" even touts such big name second generation stars as the (faux!) sons of Pat Benatar and Daniel Craig – yes, Craig Craig.

Check it out:

The actual source of their inspiration, “Girls,” has been a hit for HBO. Dunham created the show following the success of her indie hit “Tiny Furniture,” which was a semi-autobiographical film about her moving back into her parents’ loft following college. Dunham directed “Furniture” at the spry age of 24 on a budget of only $50,000.

Apatow was a fan of the flick and now look at Dunham – she’s got a cozy half-million dollar pad in NYC’s Brooklyn Heights.

Carly Rae Jepsen

By Elizabeth Lancaster @lizzydl

Covers of Carly Rae Jepsen's ubiquitous #1 hit “Call Me Maybe” and the song's constant back-to-back radio play have been all fun and games … until now! We all hoped it would never come to this.

>> Jimmy Fallon And The Roots Team Up With Carly Rae Jepsen Herself For The Ultimate 'Call Me Maybe' Cover (So Everyone Else Can Stop Now)

Jared is a sad example of what happens when pop music addiction goes just too far. He showed all the classic signs of being a “Call Me Maybe” addict, so his friends and family came forward to deal with his issues and help others avoid the same fate.

>> Watch President Obama's Cover Of Carly Rae Jepsen's 'Call Me Maybe'

First, the symptoms were mild – he ripped his own jeans (and lied about it) and listened to the track 225 times in 2 days on Spotify (which really isn't all that much, is it?). His brother, roommate and girlfriend all knew the problem was serious when these symptoms escalated. He began to shout, “Where do you think you're goin’, baby?” every time his roommate left the room. Lyrics to the song soon took over his vocabulary, and after his girlfriend broke up with him for offering pennies and dimes for a kiss to waitresses all over town, he would call her screaming, “I miss you so, so bad.”

>> OK, We Suppose Colin Powell's Cover Of Carly Rae Jepsen's 'Call Me Maybe' Is Pretty Good Too

"Call Me Maybe" may seem like bubble gum pop, but it led Jared to beg, borrow and steal from those closest to him.

Watch Jared’s story below, and let him be a reminder to you to not let things go too far. It’s just a song, after all. Say it with me: It's just a song.

Check out the song that started it all, after the jump. Read More...

Tina Fey

By Brandon Specktor

When he came out with Camp last November, "Community" comedian Donald Glover had a tricky time convincing some people that his Childish Gambino hip-hop project was more than a funny diversion. His newest mixtape, Royalty—appropriately released on a day where America celebrates freedom from snooty monarchs—keeps the debate going. On one hand, we've got legit Wu-Tang rhyme-spitters taking the mic. On the other, we've got Lemonem.

Yup, Glover's fellow NBC all-star Tina Fey makes an awesomely bonkers cameo on the album's closing track, "Real Estate." It's pretty random and ridic, but we've gotta say: Emcee Liz Lemon holds her own next to Glover and Alley Boy Swank. Fey skillfully and spitfully answers Gambino's boasts of wealth with her own surly flow about "dropping racks at Nordstroms," dropping the MF-bomb and holding off on the part "where most people would say something crazy and drop the N-word after it," because she doesn't feel comfortable with that.

The rest of Royalty plays out kind of like Glover's tongue-in-cheek retort to Watch The Throne, and features a similarly eclectic backing cast – Danny Brown, Bun B, Beck and the Wu-Tang Clan's RZA and Ghostface Killa all stop by to wax on wealth and power. Now, we just need to get a collaboration with Abed into the mix and we've got spinoff gold.
Fey comes in late in the track.

Louis CK

By Zachary Swickey

LOS ANGELES – There are very few people in the comedy world as consistently innovative as Louis C.K. Anyone who’s watched an episode of “Louie,” the F/X show that he writes, produces, directs and stars in, is familiar with the rollercoaster of emotions that one goes through while watching. Each half-hour show will offend you before it makes you laugh, cry and eventually pity Louie.

Louie announced a surprise gig late Friday afternoon for a show taking place just two days later on Sunday at the intimate, iconic Largo – a cozy, no cell phones allowed venue with only 280 seats, but has hosted some of the biggest names in comedy on its stage.

Recent star of the Jason Reitman-directed and Diablo Cody-penned “Young Adult," Patton Oswalt, opened the set. He shared a hilarious anecdote about being extremely hungover after going on an accidental wine binge the night before and randomly having a movie marathon that included “Robocop” and “Goodfellas.” He promised his wife she could sleep in that morning, so he was on dad duty with his daughter, which he joked he was slurring too much to be doing.

After wrapping his stint, Oswalt introduced the man of the night, Louis C.K. The evening was billed "Louis C.K. – A Very Rough Show with Lots of New Material," which kept its promise as he read material from a notebook resting on his stool. But rough as it was, it was an hour of pure comedy gold.

A familiar theme in C.K.’s comedy is his vocal support of the homosexual community and this appeared yet again Sunday night. He joked about the ingrained homophobia of the common heterosexual man, saying, “We’re paranoid that someone might mistake us for something that we aren’t… sexually.” He laughed about the fact that men aren’t supposed to say they’ve missed each other or use descriptive words like “wonderful,” because such acts might be deemed homosexual.

He also made the good point that women typically aren’t as concerned, saying, “You don’t see many women worried about being called a lesbian.”

Louie also voiced his concern for putting one’s music, photos, videos, etc. in the “cloud” – the service from Amazon, Google and Apple that stores your digital goods remotely in their servers so they don’t take up precious gigabytes on your computer or phone. His trepidation toward the technology seemed to echo the concerns of “South Park” when an episode riffed on Apple’s lengthy contract you must click on and accept to receive appropriate updates (which no one ever reads).

All-in-all, C.K. had the crowd in the palm of his hand the entire night, and the constant flow of raucous laughter throughout the night is not something many comedians can pull off.

Do yourself a favor and tune into the season three premiere of the Emmy-winning “Louie” this Thursday at 10:30 p.m. EST on F/X.

And of course it's sweet and perfect.

With Jepsen at his side, Fallon and his "Late Night" house band The Roots play a variety of children's instruments, including a multicolored xylophone, bongos, a tone block and tambourine with Jepsen handling triangle duties, as they harmonize away on the hit song.

While all the "Call Me Maybe" covers have been fun, the trend is getting a little played out, and it simply can't get any better than Fallon, Jepsen and the Roots' goofy and wonderful backstage performance. Hopefully we'll be able to look back on it as the best and last. Check it out below:

When Jepsen swung by the MTV Newsroom last month, the pop sensation revealed that she loves all the viral video love, which has come from the Harvard baseball team, the Miami Dolphins cheerleaders, and many many others. "I have seen a few. It's pretty rad that people are participating and making their own versions," she told MTV News. "It makes my day to see it."

As for Fallon the musician, we certainly haven't seen the last of him. He's bringing his charm to the Internet tonight (June 8 ) at 8 p.m. for a live 60-minute "YouTube Presents" concert, where he'll be performing songs from his cheeky new comedy album, Blow Your Pants Off, due out next week.

He will also answer questions from Twitter users who tweet @LateNightJimmy with the hashtag #AskJimmy, so get your questions ready!

NEW YORK - Last Saturday, NBC ran a re-run of "Saturday Night Live," but if you thought Kristin Wiig spent her night off from work going to some fancy dinner, throwing back a few drinks and messing around with her friends, you're...actually right.

But it wasn't all just fun and games. She was at Comedy Central's "Comedy Awards," which premieres Sunday night at 9 p.m. The second-annual event honors achievements in standup, TV, films and digital platforms.

The evening brought together comedic icons like Chevy Chase, Robin Williams, Chris Rock and Jim Carey, along with many of today's top comedy stars, including Jon Stewart, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Adam Scott and Maya Rudolph.

Since the show wasn't live, the nominees and winners are already easy to find. But it wasn't so much who won as what happened after they won that brought the real entertainment.

There was an onstage tribute to "SNL's" Weekend Update and lifetime achievement awards went to Don Rickles and Williams, but one of the most memorable moments came during one of Kristin Wiig’s several wins. Toward the end of the show, she and her "Bridesmaids" co-writer Annie Mumolo accepted an award for “Comedy Screenplay” but got distracted over who would get custody of the trophy. The tiff eventually escalated, with the two ending up on their hands and knees in a full-on roll/wrestle/make-out session.

Ya know, just a typical Saturday night off for Wiig.

jimmy falon

By Zachary Swickey

Jimmy Fallon took advantage of his “Late Night” hosting gig at NBC to unveil the cover for his upcoming comedy album, Blow Your Pants Off. Fallon has recruited some of the top names in music, including Bruce Springsteen, Eddie Vedder, Paul McCartney, and Justin Timberlake to name a few, for his first release in a decade.

Fallon’s comically risqué cover is a bit, shall we say, cheeky, as he bares his bum while laying on a bearskin rug, wine in hand, with a fire crackling in the background. A very strategically placed sticker with the release date – June 12 – blocks any view of the good stuff, but Fallon claims purchased copies will be scandalously sticker-less.

The unique cover is sure to raise some eyebrows, incite moments of laughter and probably upset a few people. Drumming mastermind Questlove could barely contain himself as he got a case of the chuckles when the cover was revealed.

Fallon discussed his album cover choice on his show, joking, “I don’t remember taking this photo at all. It's just a guy relaxing at home with a nice glass of wine. Starts listening to the album and his pants blew off."

“I don't know if this is my butt or a stunt butt. There's rumors going around that it's the 'Mona Lisa' of album covers,” Fallon continued.

You’ll have to wait until June 12 to see all of Fallon’s goodies and, you know, hear what kind of funny jams he's concocted with some of the most legendary names in the music biz.

Jimmy Fallon

Jimmy Fallon has announced he will release his first comedy album since 2002's The Bathroom Wall on June 12. Titled Blow Your Pants Off, the set features guest appearances from many of the top stars who've helped make many of Fallon's best skits from his late night talk show go viral, including Bruce Springsteen, Eddie Vedder, Paul McCartney and Justin Timberlake.

>> Jimmy Fallon Sued For Gender Bias (But It's Not What You're Thinking)

Based on that guest list, we're curious if at least part of Fallon's album will be a sort of "best of," featuring his amazing "History Of Rap" medleys with Timberlake or his collaborations with Springsteen, in which Fallon impersonates Neil Young and Springsteen plays a younger, "Born to Run"-era version of himself and the pair sing the most out of character modern pop songs imaginable – so far Willow Smith's "Whip My Hair" and LMFAO's "Sexy and I know It."

>> Jimmy Fallon Spoofs 'Downton Abbey'

We've collected some of our favorite of Jimmy's musical moments, including those listed above and one classic from his first album, after the jump. Check 'em out and let us know in the comments below if your excited about his new comedy album! Read More...

Like Scarlett Johansson, Blake Lively and Christina Hendricks before her, Charlize Theron is in the throes of a scandal caused by hackers … and this time the dreaded cell phone jackers hit the lottery with their discovery of a full-on, ultra crazy sex tape starring the Oscar winner, which they've leaked online!

Say it with me: OMG!

"Oh my God, I’m so nervous. I’ve never made a sex tape before," Theron coos to the camera. "I hope nobody sees this that’s not supposed to see this."

"Move over Paris and Kim cause I’m into some real kinky s**t," she continues, commanding her bondage wear-clad "slaves" to cry and dance for her before tossing hot milk on them while strange music plays in the background and two masked figures watch. "Charlize Theron is burning you with scolding hot milk! Now for the bleeding."

We've obtained a copy of the tape, which is so insane we've embedded it below in the interest of journalism. You will never look at Charlize Theron (who we thought we knew well here in the MTV Newsroom) the same again.

Of course, the whole thing is a ruse for FunnyorDie in honor of that jokiest of holidays – April Fool's Day! Keep your eyes open for practical jokers! Check out her "response" to her cell phone being hacked after the jump. Read More...

Tenacious D

By Zachary Swickey

Many a moon has passed since the last Tenacious D album – six years to be exact – but all that is about to change now that the duo has revealed details behind their newest effort: Rize Of The Fenix.

The D, who consist of quirky actor Jack Black and comedian Kyle Gass, have surprised us all by announcing their third album will be dropping in a few months, on May 15 – their first since ‘06’s The Pick of Destiny, which was actually a soundtrack for a film of the same name.

Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl will once again helm drums for the disc (he did the same for D’s two previous efforts). Grohl also notoriously played Satan himself in the group’s music video for “Tribute.”
The effort was produced by John Kimbrough, a long-time Tenacious D collaborator, at his home in Los Angeles. The album is expected to include 13 songs.

The only date Tenacious D has on their schedule is a summer appearance at the UK’s Download Festival, which is headlined by Metallica and the reunited Black Sabbath from June 8-10. However, more dates will surely crop up with the announcement of the D’s third release.

Check out the tracklisting for Rize Of The Fenix below. Read More...
