Skrillex

By Zachary Swickey

Dubstep icon Skrillex is still riding his insane wave of success following the continuing rise of electronic dance music and it appears even our favorite green friend, Kermit the Frog, is eager to work with the musician.

While Kermit is generally known for more subdued numbers like “Bein’ Green” and the classic “Rainbow Connection,” he’s itching to collaborate with an electronic artist.

"I'd love to collaborate with an electronic artist ... and I'd love to work with Skrillex, even though I've never heard his music," he told the Telegraph. "We don’t get electronic music in the swamp. There’s something about electricity and water that just doesn't mix."

The fuzzy legend and leader of the Muppets posse mentioned has an affinity for dubstep, although he admitted that he’s truly more of a hip-hop head.

"I'm more of a hip-hop frog, but I do like dubstep," he continued. His fellow Muppet and muse Miss Piggy, however, is especially fond of the genre. "Moi simply can't sit still when Moi hears dubstep," she explained. "The bass is so powerful and the whole effect is so mesmerizing and overwhelming! If I were a kind of music, I'd be dubstep."

Although Miss Piggy is clearly quite taken with EDM, she also discussed her love of female vocalists, saying, “I love Lana Del Rey ... Right now, my current fave is, of course, Adele! Beauty, talent, a natural singer – she reminds me of Moi!"

When asked how the Muppet crew celebrated after winning the Oscar for Best Original Song for “Man or Muppet” at this year’s awards, some hijinks apparently ensued: “We all congratulated Bret McKenzie who won the Oscar for writing ‘Man or Muppet."

Then Gonzo spilled the beans on his crew, saying, “And then one of us asked to hold Bret’s Oscar,” to which Fozzie Bear added, “And never gave it back.”

Nero

London dubstep duo Nero are the latest dance superstars set to join Madonna’s "MDNA Tour."

Nero, comprised of British-born producer-DJs Dan Stephens and Joe Ray, will open for M on the North American leg of her world tour, which kicked off last week in Tel Aviv, Israel, and just wrapped up a sold-out two-show run in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

Nero will open the show with a DJ set, featuring live vocals from Alana.

The group are the latest dance music stars enlisted by the Queen of Pop to open her largest-ever tour. Israeli DJ and producer Offer Nissim was the show-opener for the tour kick-off in Tel Aviv and Italian producer-DJ Benny Benassi, who produced three tracks on Madonna's most recent album MDNA, including the single "Girl Gone Wild" and "I'm Addicted" (one of the albums best tracks), handled the decks for the pop superstar's Abu Dhabi shows.

Nero recently appeared at Coachella, Sasquatch and the Electric Daisy Carnival NYC festivals and is also set to perform several shows on this summer’s IDentity Festival, as well as at Lollapalooza in Chicago and Hard Summer Los Angeles in August.

The "MDNA Tour" travels next to Istanbul, Turkey, the first stop on the 29-show European leg of the tour, where Madonna will be joined on selected dates by Alesso and Martin Solveig. Sloveig served as house DJ at Sunday's 2012 MTV Movie Awards and brought the house down with his own remixes of some of the most iconic movie themes of all time, from "Star Wars'" "Imperial March" to "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly Theme." Sloveig also produced several songs on Madonna's album, including the top ten single "Give Me All Your Luvin'" and one of our personal favorites, "Turn up The Radio."

Nero will take over when Madonna arrives in the U.S. on August 28 for an already sold-out show at Philadelphia's Wells Fargo Center. The group is also currently hard at work on the follow-up to their Welcome Reality album.

America, a whole lot more "bleeps" and "chainsaws" are coming your way!

After a monumental showing at Ultra Music Festival, Dutch electronic dance music star Afrojack, who headlines Coachella (again!) this weekend, will soon embark on one of the most ambitious undertakings of his career. He’ll be presenting his widely successful "Jacked" party at over 30 dates on a headlining tour of North America beginning in May.

Along for the ride will be much of his Afro-fam: buddies Quintino, Bobby Burns, R3hab and Shermonology (at select dates).

With smash radio hits in "Give Me Everything," "Look at Me Now" and his solo effort "Take Over Control," Afrojack (born Nick van de Wall) is easily one of dance music's most sought after performers, and he'll soon be bringing the ruckus to major US cities, including Las Vegas, Chicago, Atlantic City, Boston and Miami, and making major festivals appearances at the Electric Daisy Carnival stops in New York and Las Vegas and Seattle’s Paradiso Festival, among others, through early July.

Tickets will be available for purchase on Friday, April 20 at 10 a.m. local time in all U.S. markets at Ticketmaster.com and LiveNation.com. Citi cardmembers will have access to presale tickets for select headlining dates starting on April 18 at 10 a.m. through Citi’s Private Pass Program.

Skrillex Kaskade

We have a soft spot for EDM in the MTV Newsroom (see below), so we were super excited that two of our favorites, Grammy-winning phenom Skrillex and Kaskade, have teamed up to produce a killer video for their collab track "Lick It" from Kaskade's red hot (but definitely way cool) album Fire & Ice.

The clip comes courtesy of our good pals at MTV Buzzworthy, who premiered the clip earlier today.

Skrillex Ellie goulding

By Zachary Swickey

We won’t have to wait long to hear a collaboration between Skrillex and his lovely lady, British songbird Ellie Goulding, as the two recently hit up the studio with members of Swedish House Mafia (who have a big upcoming weekend ahead of them at California’s Coachella Music Festival).

SHM member Sebastian Ingrosso discussed the collab with Billboard, saying, “We made a demo and it was amazing. We had a blast. Ellie is a great artist … her voice is amazing. Skillex, enough said, he is Skrillex.”

The musician even admitted that he and bandmate Steve Angello were quite “scared” before the songwriting session went down, but that went away quickly. “Ellie and Skrillex came in 30 minutes late, and we had already started with a melody. Skrillex freaked out, he loved it, and after a few hours we wrote the song,” Ingrosso explained.

Apparently, the session was arranged by Interscope A&R Dave Rene, who has become an unofficial matchmaker in the EDM community. Rene was key in fulfilling Ingrosso’s request to have OneRepublic singer Ryan Tedder add some vocals to Swedish House Mafia’s tune “Calling.”

“Dave is the face of putting people together with love and seeing what happens. I think he’s the most loved guy in EDM,” Ingrosso gushed.

Of course, Ingrosso was also pretty thrilled about Skrillex. “Skrillex is one of the best guys out there, so down to earth,” he said of his collaborator. “He’s exactly what that side of EDM needs. He's got so much love in him, he will always take care of his friends, and he loves every single kind of music. I think he's a genius."

The collaboration is in the bag, but Ingrosso isn’t too positive on where the song will end up, saying, “I think it's going to be for [Ellie's] album, but in this business you don't know until you see it on iTunes."

Diplo

By Zachary Swickey

Diplo talked to us at length about several upcoming projects when we caught up with him at the first stop of the “AXE One Night Only Tour,” which finds the Philly-based producer/DJ invading seven college campuses around the states performing in intimate venues for absolutely free.

Considering just how busy the DJ has been the last several years, we couldn't help but wonder if all the ruckus was going to send him into hiding sometime soon.

“I might. I might go into hiding after the Major Lazer tour is over, because I think 'Express Yourself' might be a single for like an album I’m doing,” Diplo told MTV News.

“I’ve had so many things I’ve been doing here and there, I never have time to sit and mix down records and shoot videos. Because I want to shoot a video for every song now," he continued. "It’s like that’s what the culture is about – your videos. You’re making money on ad revenue for your videos now and stuff like that. You have to find new ways and I’ve always been involved in film. So to combine all your songs and videos is like the perfect combination I guess for the future.”

A lesser known fact about the red hot DJ is that he graduated from Temple University’s film school and that got us wondering if he had any aspiritions to enter the movie business.

“Yeah, as soon as I start becoming less and less relevant as a performing DJ, I plan on doing more and more film work for sure. I think I’d like to direct," he said. "I was even talking to Wayne [Coyne of the Flaming Lips] about doing a film project with him actually. I want to get more involved with film somehow."

Since he has everyone’s attention through his music, Diplo feels now is the time to direct. “You know, I kind of started doing film ten years ago when I was in film school and not many people paid attention to it," he explained. "But having a pedestal now for people to listen to me with music, I have a better chance of working on a bigger scale than I was used to."

On Twitter, Diplo mentioned "goin to the jungle" with Coyne and the Lips, so we had to try and squeeze some info out of him about the strange event. Read on for more. Read More...

"Wow!" That’s the simplest and best way to sum up the Kings of Ace Pool Party at the National Hotel.

The party delivered on everything you would expect from a trip to Miami Music Week – beautiful weather, beautiful people and big beats combined with a cornucopia of celebrities, DJs and EDM fanatics.

Where do I start? The scheduled acts included the marvelous Nervo sisters, Bassjackers, Quintino, Bobby Burns and Sidney Samson, who brought King of Krunk Lil’ Jon with him to perform their remix of “Mutate.” The party rose to a frenzy when Ultra Fest main stager Afrojack smashed the stage with his Wall Recording’s label-mates, Shermanology, for an energizing rendition of “Can’t Stop Me.” He later shared the stage with R3hab, firing up the crowd with favorites like “Prutataa” and “Sending My Love.”

The music was the main event, but there was certainly a steady buzz in the crowd for some of the celebrities who turned out, including Afrojack’s friend and recording partner, Paris Hilton, who took pictures of the raging crowd from onstage during his set, and NBA Hall-of-Famer Dennis Rodman, who seemed to be anything but retired from the Miami party scene.

The vibe was steady cool and the energy from the crowd was high throughout the day. Besides a huge line outside, the music attracted a swell of people from the beach just outside the party doors. They didn’t even need to come inside to get their party on!

A special thanks to Pacha NYC for helping us skip the line and Andrew from Third Day Productions for bringing you a very exclusive sneak peek of the party that you’ll only see on MTV News. Check it out below:

Avicii

By Zachary Swickey

Swedish electronic dance DJ/producer Avicii has just revealed plans for a monumental North American tour that will be going down in May and June. Being dubbed the “Le7els Tour,” the outing is being touted by promoters as the very first all-arena North American tour by an electronic artist. (Has Daft Punk seriously never?)

The jaunt includes over a dozen dates, kicking off May 17 in Houston at the Reliant Arena, and includes big stops in cities like Tampa, Buffalo, and Boston.

“Goldenvoice is excited to be working with Avicii on his North American tour," Paul Tollett, of tour sponsor Goldenvoice, said about the hookup. "We can’t wait for his Coachella performance, from what we’ve seen and heard it’s going to be a highlight.”

In addition to his performances at Coachella (April 15 and 22), Avicci is scheduled to appear at New York’s iteration of the Electric Daisy Carnival festival at Met Life Stadium on May 19.

Avicii seems to be taking the DJ world by storm at the mere age of 22. His ridiculously catchy David Guetta collab “Sunshine” was nominated for a Best Dance Recording Grammy and this Saturday he’ll be headlining the biggest digital music festival in the United States: Miami’s Ultra Music Festival.

Tickets for the "Le7els" tour will go on sale Monday, March 26, at 12pm CDT on Ticketmaster. Ticket will cost you anywhere from $27 to $47.
