Except last night, when returning "Idol" finalist Jennifer Hudson ripped a hole in the show's space-time continuum by forgetting to pretend she was in the present and speaking about a future that had already happened in the past. Confused? Let us explain.

See, Hudson — who was unceremoniously dumped from the third season of "Idol" in seventh place — reportedly taped her performance of "If This Isn't Love" several weeks ago, around the time she was slated to begin her tour with Robin Thicke. But when host Ryan Seacrest asked her about her first road trip on "Wednesday night," Hudson stammered, saying, "Yeah, starting my tour." Then, looking a bit confused, she added, "Yeah, it's starting, like, in a little bit, yeah, on tour with Robin, so that's very exciting and it's my first tour."

By last night, the dynamic R&B duo had already been on the road for more than two weeks, having kicked off their jaunt on March 31 in Albany, New York. In fact, if you took a peek at the schedule, you'd know the segment was old news, since Hudson and Thicke were scheduled to play a show at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta last night during her "Idol" performance.

It was just one more awkward moment in a post-performance chat that also had Seacrest congratulating Hudson on her "new album," which dropped back in September, but clearly avoiding any mention of the tragedy that befell the singer in October, when her mother, brother and nephew were murdered in her childhood Chicago home.

To her, he's just David.

But to the rest of the world, Jennifer Hudson's fiancé is, of course, "Punk" — a.k.a. David Otunga, the former "I Love New York 2" contestant.

Many were surprised when the pair's engagement was announced last month. After all, it's not often you see a contestant from such a show getting hitched to an Oscar-winning actress. However, Hudson is keeping the whole thing in perspective. "I don't think it's fair to judge someone off an experience [like the show]," she told MTV News.

Then again, you might not know that he graduated from Harvard Law School (just like Barack Obama) either — and "American Idol," of course, is a reality show too.

"Everything to me takes time," Hudson told MTV News' Tim Kash. "We talked for a very long time before we got into each other. We got a good chance to know each other and we made really good friends out of it, which led us to this."

The Oscar winner also revealed to us how she met Punk — er, David. "We actually met through a mutual friend. For some odd reason we happen to know all the same people," she said.

She said she was familiar with his television history, and although she said it wasn't love at first sight — "He had to prove himself" — he does have many attributes that she looks for in a man.

For one, he's "nice and thick! I love it!" But also, she said, "David is very smart and a very loving person. He's a "beautiful person," she said. "[He's] very intelligent, very smart, a complete gentleman, very traditional."

In other words, he doesn't live up to his nickname. We wish them all the best!

OK, hold on a second. This isn't fair. Pocketbook, notebook — it's an easy mistake to make. When I heard the song "Pocketbook," I genuinely had an image of JHud picking up a silver Mac or perhaps a big diary book and throwing it at some guy's head. I mean, let's be honest: She looks capable. Thinking about it now, yes, it does seem a little too violent to throw a laptop at somebody, but really, how am I meant to know that JHud (and a lot of other women, apparently) calls her handbag a pocketbook? It's an easy mistake to make, right? The word "handbag" makes sense. It does exactly what it says — it's a bag you carry in your hand. But a pocketbook makes you think of a book that fits in your pocket or at least a big notepad of sorts, no?

I've seen "Sex and the City," so I do know more than I should about Christian Louboutin shoes and Balenciaga handbags. So let's just chalk this one up as an understandable mistake and a new word added to my vocab.

They: Got engaged on Friday night in Los Angeles on Hudson's 27th birthday, according to "Access Hollywood." Congratulations, kids.

So, being a die-hard J-Hud fan since her first "Idol" appearance, I feel it's my duty to suggest a few album titles for the full-figured diva.

1. Always Surprised — Anyone who enjoyed the Hud on "Idol" will smile at that suggestion. Part of her charm was the fact that no matter what was going on in the show, a cutaway to Jennifer Hudson always resulted in unintentional hilarity. The girl always looked like she had just won the lottery.

2. Back in the Habit — Another "Idol" reference. (She mentioned on "movie" night that her favorite flick was "Sister Act 2." Seriously.) But it could also double as a winking nod to the fact that she put her pop-music career aspirations on the backburner to pursue acting.

3. Strike While the Iron's Tepid — By the time her LP drops September 30, it will be more than 18 months since she won an Oscar. Was her thankless role in the "Sex and the City" movie so taxing that she couldn't get her record in the can faster? Speaking of Carrie Bradshaw and Co....

4. Token Sassy Black Sidekick — At the very least Michael Patrick King will remember that album title. (Isn't that what he named her character in the "SATC" script?)

5. She's Not Effie, She's My Brother — They can't all be winners, folks.

There's gotta be a better title out there. I wanna hear from the other Jennifer Hudson fans. (Also, we should come up with a fun "J-Hud fan" name, like ArchieAngels. How about Hud-Sons? Or the Hudsucker Proxies? Ugh, never mind.) What do you think she should name her debut album?
