Katy Perry

When Katy Perry wed Russell Brand in an elaborate ceremony at the Aman-i-Khas luxury resort in India, adjacent to the tiger sanctuary where he proposed, on October 23, 2010, they pulled out all the stops except one: they never signed a pre-nup.

So many wondered if Brand would go after what the law says is his – 50 percent of what she earned during their marriage. (That's the law, as crappy as it seems in cases like these.) In Perry's case, that'd be around $22 million, as Forbes reported that Perry earned approximately $44 million in 2011 from touring, album and singles sales and endorsement deals … far more than Brand earned for his star turn in "Arthur."

But sources tell People that Brand just isn't that kind of guy and won't pursue a penny from his famous former wifey. (We knew we liked him for some reason.)

Brand's lawyers reported filed finalized divorce papers asking for zero support from Perry on Tuesday. Their divorce will be finalized on June 30 following the mandatory six-month waiting period.

It’s fair to say that when you set aside the once-in-a-generation phenomenon that is Adele and 21, Katy Perry is pretty much the leading pop star in the world right now. One-and-a-half years after its release, the star is still breaking records left and right with Teenage Dream, as "The One That Got Away" became Katy’s 6th (!) single from the album to hit No. 1 on Pop Songs chart.

With the kind of unprecedented success that Katy has enjoyed with Teenage Dream, it’s an understatement to say that expectations are high for her next album. Can lightning strike twice? Will she be able to come up with pop nuggets as juicy as "Teenage Dream" or "Last Friday Night"?

Complicating things is Katy’s recent divorce from Russell Brand. Many a star has released a more mature, introspective album after a divorce – think, for example, Mariah Carey and her soulful masterpiece, “Butterfly” – so can we expect a darker sound and deeper lyrics for Katy’s third album?

It might sound like a stretch to imagine the girl who sang “Ur So Gay” and “I Kissed a Girl” coming up with something like, say, something like Alanis Morisette’s Jagged Little Pill, but remember that Katy actually has a gospel music background. Also, she once worked with producers The Matrix back in 2004 for what presumably would have been a more Avril-sounding album, so clearly, she’s able to do more than frothy pop.

Compounding the possibility that Katy will diversify her sound for her next album is the fact that she can no longer work with her long-time collaborator Dr. Luke (producer of “I Kissed a Girl” and “Hot N Cold, and all the Teenage Dream singles), because the hitmaker signed a deal that ties him to working with Sony artists only, while Katy’s on EMI. This means that Katy would be compelled to seek out new producers, potentially venturing into new sonic arenas. Read More...

Katy Perry has always been the best sort of pop star cartoon and now she’s officially getting animated. The pop star has hooked up with Electronic Arts for what is being billed as an “extensive and exclusive creative collaboration" between her and The Sims.

The Hollywood Reporter reports that through multiple games (including March’s The Sims 3 Showtime) the singer will appear through content themed after her, including clothing, hairstyles, furniture and props. She’ll also appear in marketing and advertising campaigns for the games.

"I love how you're able to play out different stories through your Sims characters – giving them different careers and watching them succeed,” she said in a statement. “It's cool to see the Sims' stage performances in The Sims 3 Showtime decked out just like my California Dreams Tour – even my cotton candy video screens are in there! I always like to think of myself as a cartoon, and now I'm a Sim!"

Pop star/video game collabos are hardly new. Last year, Lady Gaga hooked up with FarmVille to launch her album, , giving fans exclusive content leading up to the album’s release. Read More...

Katy Perry Tells Everyone To Step Off

Katy Perry's divorce drama intensified when her parents began speaking to the media and as usually Katy used Twitter as a way to silence the rumors.

Seriously, Mama and Papa Perry need to lock it up and drop out of Michael Lohan’s School for Parenting.

Katy Perry has been laying low since the announcement of her divorce from Russell Brand. Rumors abound about where Perry is and what frame of mind she's in (some say the split was pretty amicable and that she's doing just fine, others say she's a sad, teary-eyed mess), but our favorite bit of gossip has it that the Grammy-nominated "Firework" songbird is getting comfort from her close friend and sister in chart-topping pop, Rihanna.

As source tells Britain's The Sun (via MTV UK) that Perry contacted the "We Found Love" singer after learning that Brand filed for divorce and Rihanna invited her friend to join her in her native Barbados to regroup. "Katy was embarrassed about calling her parents as they'd been so against Russell in the first place, but Rihanna was a great support for her and she really helped to calm her down," the source claims. "When Katy told her the news, she suggested flying down to Barbados to stay with her and her family."

(For what it's worth, a similar report in The Mirror claimed Perry and RiRi were instead Mexico-bound for a girls' only vacation.)

If Perry is indeed getting a little post-split TLC from Rihanna, we know she's in good hands because Princess Ri is eternally doling out the best advice on Twitter. We've rounded up some of our favorite bits of insight here but be warned, as anyone who follows Rihanna on Twitter knows (and if you're not following her, what's wrong with you – she is the best celeb to follow), the language gets a little salty – but her heart is always in the right place (even if her mouth is in the gutter). "She works hard for the money," Donna Summer once sang, and just as it was the case in 1983, pop stars these days have to work their butts off to earn those album purchases, downloads and concert ticket sales in this age of YouTube, X-Box and Angry Birds.

But while some singers identify with the Protestant work ethic espoused by Donna, there are others who, as Bruno Mars puts it, “don’t feel like doing anything [and] just wanna lay in my bed.” And it’s not always only those who are hardworking who find success, as the popularity of Bruno proves. Sometimes you can have your cake and eat it.

So, who’s working hard and who’s not? In the spirit of Christmas, we decided to put together a pop star naughty and nice list for Santa. Read More...

The time has come!

Last week, we opened voting to find out which 2011 videos from fan-favorite artists Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, Britney Spears, Beyonce and Chris Brown were your favorites of the year and after several thousand votes were cast, we have the results!

So which videos ruled the roost in 2011? Check 'em out below.

Katy Perry, "The One that Got Away"

Katy's most recent clip dominated the competition, taking 54.76 percent of the vote. "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)" held it up in second with 30.73 percent while Katy's spring smash "E.T." nabbed only 14.51 percent of the vote (probably because the visual spectacle is further back in people's memories than her more recent vids).

We already knew that U2 was going to set a new record for highest grossing tour of all time, and of course they have now officially done so – pulling in $293 million more bones this year alone (which means they could pretty much recreate Scrooge McDuck’s swimming pool of money in the real world) from 44 shows as Billboard reports in their list of the top-grossing tours of 2011.

While vets like U2, Bon Jovi, Roger Waters and Take That (Take Who?) take the four top spots, the younger generation of artists aren’t far behind in the money race with birthday girl Taylor Swift rounding out the top five (blowing away several big name acts like the Eagles and Journey who have apparently not stopped believin’). The country charmer grossed a staggering $97 million on her 89-date tour behind Speak Now … 87 of which were impressively sold-out!

Plenty of other MTV favorites managed to make the list. Read on to find out who! Read More...

It's been a big year for Katy Perry. She broke long-held music industry records, scored a bunch of Grammy nominations (and is up for even more in 2012), won a boat load of awards and, very importantly, made some great music videos.

(This weekend, she also hosted "Saturday Night Live" and was pretty damn funny!)

While the video that won her the VMA for Video of the Year, "Firework," was actually released in 2010, she kept the quality level high with the three clips she released in 2011. But which one was her fans' favorite? Check 'em out below and vote in our poll after the jump!

"E.T."

Read on for "Last Friday Night (TGIF)" and "The One That Got Away" and to vote for Katy's best video of 2011. Read More...

It’s always an honor to head over to 30 Rock, attend "Saturday Night Live" rehearsals and get to interview the celebs they’ve picked to be on the show that week. It's a chance I'd never turn my nose at. This week, I had the most awesome pleasure of chatting with this week's host Katy Perry and musical guest Robyn. (The pair had previously toured together on Katy’s "California Dreams" tour, FYI.)

In addition to getting some awesome inside scoop about the show from the two pop stars (and just who Katy is getting hosting advice from. Hint: She’s married to him), I also got the chance to check out the duo, joined by Bill Hader, doing his legendary Stefon act, putting together one of the show’s funny little promos.

In between takes, the trio hung around, chatted a bit and Bill pretty much stayed in his Stefon character the entire time. In the hours leading up to Katy and Robyn's episode, airing Saturday night (obviously!), we're sure you'll see these promos rolling out. But because we’re MTV News and we can offer you some fun behind-the-scenes footage you won’t really see anywhere else, check out what didn’t make the final cut for the network after the jump!
