Madonna

Earlier today, a few audio snippets of Madonna's "Give Me All Your Love" leaked and it sure didn't take long for the whole track to find its way online.

And the verdict around the MTV Newsroom: Thumbs up, Madge. Thumbs WAY up. In fact, one gentlemanly MTV News boss man perhaps said it best: "I like this so much more than I should."

This track falls squarely in Madonna's cannon; it's pure dance pop. It opens with Nicki Minaj cheering, "L-U-V, MADONNA / Y-O-U, you wanna?" before Madonna jumps in with the first verse:

I see you coming and I don’t wanna know your name
L-U-V, Madonna (Nicki)
I see you coming and you’re gonna have to change the game
Y-O-U, You wanna (Nicki)
Would you like to try?
Give me a reason why
Give me all that you got
Maybe you’ll do fine
As long as you don’t lie to me
And pretend to be what you’re not

There is, however, one big surprise – M.I.A. is nowhere to be found on the giddy song, despite rumors that she would appear. In her place, glittery synths, marching band drums, claps and a catchy-as-hell chorus. Actually, the whole thing, start to finish, is undeniably catchy. We already have big plans to listen to it on repeat while spinning around our bedroom in circles. Yeah, it's like that!

Madonna

So everyone's been talking about Madonna lately. From her upcoming movie "W.E." and her recently announced clothing line to the rumors she'll be playing the Super Bowl halftime show and the details of her much-anticipated upcoming album, there's a lot going on in the Queen of Pop's court.

With respect to the music side of things, however, all we really have is a lot of speculation but very few confirmed facts. We think she's playing the Super Bowl. We hear that the first single from her new album will feature Nicki Minaj and M.I.A. Are those demos that keep popping up online really demos for her new album? Who the hell knows for sure.

But we now have something a little more concrete to carry us through – a snippet of the first single from Madonna's upcoming album. The song is called "Give Me All Your Love," and unlike those demos that keep leaking, this one actually features Her Madgesty's vocals.

What can we glean from 24-second clip? Well, she's certainly keeping her word that this will be a dancey affair. It's pure power pop and it almost feels more like a throwback, old school Madonna song than anything she's done in recent years.

Listen after the jump and tell us your thoughts in the comments. Read More...

Madonna has long made a career of being in just the right place with just the right people at just the right time. And it sounds like she's at it again on her upcoming untitled 12th album. Though Madge's spokesperson gave a "no comment" when asked by MTV News to confirm the news, the popular Madonna fan site MadonnaTribe reported this week that the Material One has recorded nine songs so far for the disc, including the lead single, "Give Me All Your Love," which will feature … wait for it … Nicki Minaj and M.I.A.

The album, which she is reportedly recording with old pal William Orbit (Ray of Light) as well as dance veterans Martin Solveg and Benny Benassi, is slated for release early next year and unconfirmed rumors continue to bubble up that Madonna will play the new single when she performs at halftime at next year's Super Bowl on February 5.

Orbit has kept things close to the vest, but did recently tweet a tantalizing message that appeared to confirm the Super Bowl appearance. "I hesitate to make a comment about anything musical," he wrote. "Ya'll might think is a cryptic tease. But will say: \o/\o/\o/\o/\o/\o/\o/." The obvious cheerleader reference has been taken by Madonnaphiles to either be a confirmation of the appearance at the big game or a hint that the gig will feature some cheerleaders spelling out the singer's name in the stadium while she plays her new song.

Madonna is hard at work on her follow-up to 2008's Hard Candy. So, what will this album sound like? Well, in a recent interview with Swedish Sveriges Television, she simply stated: “It will be more good music.” Fair enough, Madge, you needn't say more!

There haven’t been too many details about the album, but here is what we know so far: it’s expected to drop early next year, the first single may be released in February or March and she’s working with Ray of Light producer William Orbit.

Yet, we recently learned another possible detail about the hotly awaited record – some of that good music may just come from Aussie sister DJ-duo NERVO (Liv and Mim). The girls, who spent their summer as an opening act on Britney Spears' Femme Fatale Tour, have written songs for some of the biggest artists in the business, including, Ke$ha, David Guetta and Nicole Scherzinger, and could possibly be adding Madonna to that list.

“That one, you know, it’s another one we’ll see if the stars align,” Liv told us. “But she’s expressed interest in a song of ours and she’s working with William Orbit, who’s an incredible producer, and who she’s worked with in the past.”

And if the “We’re All No One” singers do end up on the album, they will have William Orbit to thank.

“He actually was the one who pitched her the song of ours – pitched it to Madonna – and fingers crossed! Now that we’ve spoken about it, of course, it’s not going to happen,” Liv joked. Read More...

It's easy to compare Lady Gaga and Britney Spears to Madonna and have the two of them vie for her throne. But could it be that there's another pop star secretly working her way to Queen of Pop status and doing it more in the spirit of Madge herself? Well, there's an argument to be made that Rihanna is certainly following in the footsteps of the Mama of Pop.

"I think that Madonna was a great inspiration for me, especially on my earlier work. If I had to examine her evolution through time, I think she reinvented her clothing style and music with success every single time," Rihanna said earlier this year. "And at the same time remained a real force in entertainment in the whole world."

While some of you may be scratching your head at the suggestion that Ri – and not Gaga or Brit – might be the new Madge, we've come up with some reasons why. Follow us here for a second, okay?

Oh my God, you guys! Beyonce's next video is almost here, and it's for one of your favorite songs from 4, the horn-blasting jam "Countdown."

We've been preaching the gospel of "Countdown" for months. Before the album even dropped, we were Internet screaming that it needed to be a single – and now it is! It's one of our favorite tracks on the album, which is a statement because 4 is our favorite album so far this year.

But enough fawning (for now … trust that we'll Stan out again once the full video drops). Yesterday, King Bey dropped a sneak peek and all anyone is talking about is her baby bump. So we got to thinking about pregnant ladies and pop music. Sometimes a star tries to keep her bump under wraps for a video shoot, as Madonna did in her "Music" video. You can't even tell that under that long white fur coat, the world's biggest pop star was very pregnant (her pregnancy was the reason the mid-vid action sequence was animated). Other times, she flaunts it, as Beyonce seems to be doing in the "Countdown" clip and as Britney Spears did in the video for her ballad "Someday (I Will Understand)."

After the jump, check out Her Madgesty and Britney as well as Pink and Mariah Carey in videos shot while the pop stars were expecting. Read More...

Madonna

It's hard for artists to keep things under wraps these days – especially when you're the Queen of Pop. Less than two months after Madonna's manager, Guy Oseary, revealed that the pop titan had begun recording her next album, a just-announced promotional contest with Smirnoff has inadvertently confirmed that Her Madgesty will embark on a tour.

According to the singer's website, Madonna has teamed up with the popular vodka brand for their latest promotional blitz called "Smirnoff Nightlife Exchange Project," which encourages fans from all around the world to share their nightlife stories via their Facebook page. Smirnoff will culminate the campaign on November 12 with 50 different parties taking place all over the globe.

In addition to submitting personal experiences, fans can enter an online dance competition, where finalists will be chosen to attend one of the global events and compete in a dance-off right in front of the pop queen. The winner of the contest may get a not-too-shabby offer to join Madge on her next tour as one of her dancers.

"What attracted me to the Smirnoff Nightlife Exchange Project is the combination of participating in the celebration of nightlife around the world and the opportunity to discover the world's best unknown dancers," Madonna said a press release. "The best dancers are always in the clubs looking for the most original experience, just like Smirnoff is doing." Read More...

On this day 53 years ago in Bay City, Michigan, pop royalty was born in the form of Madonna Louise Ciccone, the third child of Silvio Ciccone and her namesake mother, Madonna Louise Fortin Ciccone.

Madonna’s rise to stardom is legendary. She briefly attended the University of Michigan on a dance scholarship before dropping out to move to New York City in late 1977. She famously arrived in NYC with just $35 in her pocket and worked briefly at a Dunkin’ Donuts before taking on odd jobs as a backup dancer and model (which came back to bite her in the butt after she got famous and some nude pics taken in ’78 were published in Penthouse and Playboy in ’85).

She was playing in a NYC-based band with an ex-boyfriend when a demo landed in the hands of then-Sire Records founder Seymour Stein, who famously signed Madonna to the label from his hospital bed while recovering from a heart infection. She immediately hit the studio to record her first single, “Everybody,” which hit radio on October 6, 1982, and became a dance hit. Her self-titled debut record was released the following summer, yielding the first (“Lucky Star”) of her now-record breaking run of 37 top ten hits, more than any artist in the history of music.

The rest, as they say, is history – which we will now thoughtfully break down for you with a rundown of some of Her Madgesty’s biggest moments. Read More...

As U2 begin to wrap up the last leg of their seemingly never-ending 360° tour, they continue to shatter records and cement their place as the top touring act ever. The tour – which began in Europe two years ago in support of their most recent album, No Line on the Horizon – has currently grossed over $675 million during the over 100-show run with each date selling out consecutively.

Anyone who has caught a glimpse of the 167-foot tall “claw” structure that U2 employs as their stage knows just how massive this production is. It has a ridiculous budget of $750,000 a day, a fleet of 120 trucks, and a 400-person workforce. It takes eight days just to set up and take down the rig, and the group has three (at $40 million per “claw”), so that two can be in the process of assembly on the same night they play another gig. This 360-degree stage scenario allows up to 20 percent more tickets to be sold; therefore, further helping U2 slaughter attendance records from South Africa to the U.S.

To put things into perspective, The Rolling Stones’ 2005-07 A Bigger Bang Tour is the second highest grossing tour ever, raking in over $550 million, but selling a paltry 4.6 million in tickets to U2’s 7 million. Similarly, U2’s average attendance of over 65,000 people more than doubled the Stones’ 32,500. AC/DC’s lengthy return to the road – 2008-10’s Black Ice World Tour; their first jaunt in 7 years – is unsurprisingly the third highest grossing tour of all time.

But what about the ladies? Find out below. Read More...

Katy Perry

Little Monsters the world over are up in arms over a photo Katy Perry posted to her Twitter that features the “Firework” singer as a mermaid. Why so serious? Well, we’ll let gagamonster96 explain it for us: “Lady Gaga announces that she's going to be Yüyi the Mermaid in her next video. Katy Perry goes on, and copies her.”

Gaga performed “The Edge of Glory” in mermaid attire on Le Grand Journal in late June and has alluded to being a mermaid in the video for her next single. “I will also say that Yuyi is in incubation, for anyone who knows what that means. Yuyi may just be born in the next video,” Gaga said recently on a Taiwanese talk show. “I don't want to ruin the surprise! It's very unexpected. Working on the video now.”

Interestingly, there were rumors she would appear as a mermaid in her “Edge of Glory” video but that the concept was scrapped – along with whatever footage director Joseph Kahn shot – in favor of the pared-down, Gaga-directed video that was released in June. Gaga still hasn’t announced what her next single will be nor when the video will be released.

Laurieann Gibson, Gaga’s creative director, took to her favorite platform, Twitter, to deliver a sly dig at Perry, saying, “even though they try to steal a tail theres only 1 Mermaid, Swim On!”

The tension is what it is and we’re not going to say too much about it. Except this: Getting upset when one pop star “rips off” another is silly for a number of reasons but mostly because Madonna always did it first. Madonna filed her mermaid trademark in ’89 when she shot her “Cherish” music video. Read More...
