When he's not busy representing his country at the Summer Olympics in London, diver Matthew Mitcham chills out in the – apparently very warm – Olympic Village with his ukulele. He's uploaded a video of himself crooning to his official YouTube channel, joining the U.S. swim team in its attempt to have a little viral fun with a Youtube cover of a pop hit. And what song is the 2008 gold medalist showcasing for all of his fans? Beyonce's "Single Ladies," of course.

Mitcham says he uploaded the clip "because someone on twitter asked me to upload a video of me playing the ukulele."

You can gripe that he didn't opt for a more current song, but at least he didn't toss his hat into the "Call Me Maybe" cover brigade. Also, it's pretty perfect and undeniably adorable!

Check it out:

"I profess to be neither a great instrumentalist nor singer, I'm just an Olympic diver who likes to strum away in his spare time," Mitcham wrote in the video's description. "I think this is where I am supposed to credit Beyonce or something."

What do you think of Matthew's crooning? Do we have an Aussie Jason Mraz on our hands? Let us know in the comments below!

The Spice Girls have yet to officially confirm that they will be performing at the closing ceremonies of the Summer Olympics in London, though the fact that they are allegedly set to perform two songs is just about the worst kept secret in music.

There have been sly hints and insider chit-chat, but none of the gals has stepped up to say it is 100 percent happening. So far the closest thing we've gotten to a confirmation has come from Victoria Beckham, who was asked about a possible reunion with her old bandmates by a British radio station in mid-July and said, "I don't know about a comeback tour, but I loved being back with the girls...we are very excited about the Olympics."

Today (August 2), the most coy of the Spice Girls tweeted yet another tease to stoke anticipation.

It comes in the form of a picture of a microphone encrusted with rhinestones and glitter. (Perfect, right?) Beckman tweeted the image earlier today along with the caption, "Look what I found!! X vb."

Check it out:

Victoria Beckham, Twitter

Posh sure knows how to stir excitement in Spice World!

Beckham revealed the pic at nearly the same time as Sunday Mirror entertainment columnist Dean Piper tweeted, "So the Spice Girls are all together rehearsing for the Olympics RIGHT NOW in London. #itsonb*tches."

Lady Gaga has been on a brief break from her "Born This Way Ball," having concluded the Australian leg of the tour on July 8 in Perth before storming Europe beginning August 14 in Sofia, Bulgaria. So what's she been up to? Well, we know she filmed a small part in director Robert Rodriguez's "Machete Kills," but lately it seems she's been busying herself the way many of us have – by watching the Olympics.

Yesterday, she revealed on Twitter that the Games are making her emotional, saying, "The Olympics is the best ever. But I went through a whole pack of tissues last night. Watching hard working athletes achieve their dreams."

She seems to have a particular affinity for women's gymnastics, cheering on Team USA with some encouraging words: "Those girls are tearing the floor up for the USA! #Olympics." She continued, "Woohoo! Gold for the ladies! Just want to squeeze them! So much talent and beauty. Did u seem all holding hands? There's no 'I' in team."

One of the members of the home team, 16-year-old McKayla Maroney, caught wind of Gaga's support and fangirl-ed out a little bit, responding to Mother Monster, "Thanks for watching @ladygaga!! <3 This team loves you & your music!! I also heard you were a gymnast??"

The pop diva seemed as excited by the back-and-forth as the teenage athlete.

"@mckaylamaroney tweeted at me! Why didn't anybody tell me!!! DEAD. You were brilliant give all the girls a kiss for me," Gaga tweeted this morning (August 1), continuing, "And no I did gymnastics for like a weeks and then dropped out for ballet!"

For her part, the talented Maroney thinks Gaga still has a shot. "Aww I will<3 Oh very cool!! Your so amazing I bet you still have a shot at gymnastics! 2016 maybe," she responded.

And so our two favorite national pastimes – celebrities and sports – collided spectacularly, and in the spirit of the Olympic games it was nothing but love!

Olympics

USA! USA! USA!

Michael Phelps won his 19th Olympic medal Tuesday (July 31), taking home gold in the men's 4x200-meter freestyle. With that win, he becomes the most decorated Olympian ever. Phelps now has 15 gold, two silver and two bronze medals earned at four different Olympics.

Earlier in the day, Phelps won the silver in an extremely close 200-meter butterfly race that saw him come in second to South Africa's Chad le Clos, a 20-year-old who counts Phelps as his hero. Phelps didn't hide his disappointed with the outcome of the 200-meter butterfly, his signature race, cradling his face in his hands after coming in second. Had he taken home the gold, he would have won the event at three consecutive Olympics, which itself would have been another record.

With that silver medal, Phelps tied Soviet gymnast Larisa Latynina, who took home 18 medals from 1956 to 1964. Little more than an hour later, he eclipsed the achievement with his 19th prize.

The audience at London's Aquatic Centre gave Phelps the standing ovation he deserved for such a history-making achievement! Congrats, Michael!

The Summer Games are sure to bring many celebrities to London from actors, artists and even U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama. But for the next few weeks, the real focus of the world will be on the thousands of Olympians representing their respective countries.

MTV News caught up with some of the U.S. athletes in New York City and asked them which artists get them pumped up before the big competition. Here’s what they said:

Arielle Martin, BMX Racing
Fact: During the summers, Arielle and her husband ride their twin Ducati Monsters.
Music: Motley Crue – "Kickstart My Heart." "We get time trial song every time we go on the track to qualify, individually, and that’s been mine for the last three years."

Betsey Armstong, Water Polo
Fact: She's the only player on the USA team not from the state of California.
Music: "A lot of rap music, a lot of Jay-Z, Drake, Rihanna."

Race Imboden, Fencing
Fact: Prior to heading to the Olympic Games, Race worked as an intern at music label, Fool's Gold.
Music: "Danny Brown, he’s got some southern soul to him. I like it."

Dagmara Wozniak, Fencing
Fact: At age 20, she attended the 2008 games as a replacement athlete for the U.S. team.
Music: “I like Kanye West, Lady Gaga.”

Nicholas Long, BMX Racing
Fact: He dreams of one day seeing the world … while on his bike.
Music: "I listen to pretty much metal rock music, Miss May I or Devil Wears Prada."

Timothy Morehouse, Fencing
Fact: Tim competed at the 2004 Olympics, and prior to that was a 7th grade teacher.
Music: Bruce Springsteen, Counting Crows, Ashlee Simpson, but his ultimate favorite, he says is, "Rocky, 'Going to Fly Now,' if I ever need to get going, that song never fails."

Carly Rae

By Bryant Gilmore

When you’ve been training as hard as the U.S. Olympic Swim Team, what do you do to blow off a little steam? Turn on the camera, crank up the iPod and make a parody video of Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe," of course.

Yes, the infectious summer hit and lightning rod for endless viral videos, has added another to the list and it features our Olympic hopefuls lounging and laughing poolside, hanging out in hotel rooms and laying down some dance moves, including a sweet underwater Robot as they bust out the lyrics to the song. It’s both hilarious and refreshing to see what the athletes engage in normal activity during their downtime.

One of the standout moments in the video comes at 1:04 when the ladies rise from their seats on an airplane to tackle the second verse of the song. Call us crazy, but we didn’t see the No Seat Belts sign go off, allowing them to do that, but when you’re going for Olympic gold on behalf of the entire country, we guess the TSA overlooks some things.

Good luck in London, guys. We’ll be watching, cheering you on and looking out for the next awesome parody. Maybe something set to, hopefully, "We Are The Champions," next time? In the meantime, check out the video below:

Danny Boyle

By Uptin Saiidi (@uptin)

More than an estimated one billion people will be watching tomorrow's Summer Olympic opening ceremony. While the planning has been over two years in the making, director Danny Boyle has been careful not to give away too much of what we can expect. This morning on "Today ," though, he sat down with an inquisitive Meredith Vieira and teased some of what we’ll see.

Setting The Bar

Meeting the expectations set by the opening ceremony at the 2008 Bejing Olympics was a difficult feat for the "Slumdog Millionaire" director, but he’s not letting the pressure get to him. “Beijing was beyond compare," he said. "It was on a scale that it's unimaginable, almost anywhere else in the world at the moment, so you go, ‘Fine, all hail Beijing, that’s the peak.’ We're very grateful to Beijing that it brought to an absolute climax the scale of these opening ceremonies."

When asked how he’d know if his ceremony was a success, it didn’t seem to be an issue on his mind. “I believe it’s a success already because I believe the way it's mobilized people together in a tough time in Brittan and Europe and the world."

Logistics

The show will open with a 27-ton bell being rung (and most likely used at the closing ceremony as well). There are also over 10,000 volunteers participating tomorrow night, whom Danny calls the "real stars of the show."

Inspiration

The inspiration behind the show is from a line in Shakespeare’s “The Tempest,” which goes, "Be not afraid, the isle is full of noises.” And the film director isn’t approaching this production as anything other than that. "We're trying to do a live film. It’s tough. The way you'll experience it on television will feel a whole lot more immediate and visceral."

He also said that the setting will be based on a model of a meadow, which plays a key role in the overall setting and experience.

Music

We know Paul McCartney is confirmed to be perform, but details beyond that are minimal, aside from the fact that music is a highly important part of Boyle’s vision. "Something that's very important in our culture is music," he said. "Our history of music for such a small place, really pop music is extraordinary, one of the examples is the Beatles."

Influence of Literature

Boyle recognizes there’s a “very close connection between some of the great writers of children's literature who have been immortalized by Disney (Cruella de Vil, Captain Hook, Alice In Wonderland, Queen of Hearts), but actually, they originate in British literature, and the most famous of that is Peter Pan.”

Vieira asked, “Am I going to see Peter Pan?”

"Yes,” he laughed. “I mean, if they work.

Michael Phelps

By: Uptin Saiidi (@uptin)

Michael Phelps needs to win just three medals at the 2012 Summer Olympics to go down in history as the most decorated Olympian of all time. With three days to go, Phelps is all moved into Olympic Village with his fellow athletes and appeared in an interview this morning on the "Today", where he said he's been spending his time watching his favorite shows. "I started 'The Wire' and am catching up on 'Breaking Bad'," he told special correspondent Ryan Seacrest. "A lot of pretty much sitting around and watching movies."

A difficult task in the summer heat, considering he arrived to find out the village doesn’t have any A.C. "We walked in and tried to crank the thermostat down, but nothing was happening all day and they told us in a meeting that we have no air conditioning. Everybody on the team have little college dorm fans that rotate, so we have some air circulating but everybody has to deal with it."

Phelps said he’s a lot better physically than he was in 2008, and mentally he just wants to take things as they come. "Being able to visualize my races and prepare myself for what could happen, what I want to happen, what I don’t want to happen, just so I’m prepared for everything."

This will be the fourth Olympic games for Phelps and he says they will also be his last.

"It’s kind of emotional," he told Seacrest. "I think back over the last 20 years what has happened over my career it’s been a lot of great memories – that’s one thing that I’m looking forward to this week is having a lot of great memories and a lot of great moments."

When you’ve spent most of your life as a swimmer and your entire career has been watched closely in the public eye, it’s hard to imagine life without swimming. But for now, Phelps is just thinking about what lies ahead in the short-term. "I think a lot of things I’ve done through my career haven’t really sunk in yet. I guess the more I move through my life some of those moments will sink in even more. I have a job to finish here that’s why I'm here, that’s why I’m setting out on Saturday to start my journey, and hopefully it's a good one."

If recent leaked documents are to be believed, the music and entertainment offerings at this year's Olympic ceremony in England are going to be demi godly; The Who, One Direction, Ed Sheeran, Fatboy Slim, Kaiser Chiefs, Jessie J, the remaining members of Queen, and Russell Brand are all mentioned as likely performers.

But despite some early back and forth, it's looking like one gig you can count on will be, of all things, a Spice Girls reunion.

There's been on-again-off-again speculation about this reunion for a few months now, but Victoria "Posh" Beckham seemed to confirm over the radio today that, yup, the Spice Girls will play two songs to close out the games. Asked about a possible reunion, she said, "I don't know about a comeback tour, but I loved being back with the girls...we are very excited about the Olympics."

So get those "Wannabe" lyric sheets out and get practicin' on re-masterin' the best tongue-twister of 1996!

We're pretty stoked to see Sporty, Scary, Ginger, Posh and Baby share the stage again. Their last gig together was in 2008, and since then the pop music landscape has only got more diva-centric. How will they adjust to the current musical climate? Can we expect a dubstep remix of "Wannabe"? (Oh God—it already exists!)

Only time will tell what the Spice reunion brings. But we'll definitely be celebrating—and you know, we feel like the Olympic organizers should also do something to honor this unprecedented union of the greatest athletes in the world and one of the most legendary girl groups of all time. We'd like to submit the following five Spice Girl-themed Olympic Celebrations for the committee's consideration:

1. Give every athlete Spice Girl nicknames. "Sporty" is already taken, so we're gonna need some creativity here. Let's see…Michael Phelps can be "Super Saiyan Spice." Usain Bolt is "Showoff Spice." And Serena Williams can be "Truly, Truly Scary Spice." There's three free ones. Y'all Olympic guys can fill in the rest.

2. Add "The Girl Power Cup: a third-wave feminism triathlon." In this new long-form, three-part race, Olympians will compete to bring balance to gender politics. The first contestant to end exploitative reality television programming, equalize men and women's pay in the workplace, and be elected president of a Western nation wins. Girls only.

3. Add the "2 Become 1"-legged race. Teams of two will stand back-to-back while a moderator binds their ankles, legs, waists and chests together with official "Spice Wire," then compete in a grueling 100-meter hop. This is essentially a more important Sleeping Bag Race, or a way, way less awful and terrifying Human Centipede.

4. Add the "If You Wannabe a Champion" Singing Marathon. Each participating nation will elect one champion to recite the opening "I'll tell ya what I want, what I really, really want" tongue-twister unabated throughout the entirety of their Olympic itinerary (competitors in aquatic events may use snorkels or tap the lyrics on the poolside ledge in Morse Code, if preferable.) The last contestant to give up singing or pass out wins!

5. Make Athletes Wear Union Jack Mini-Dresses. All this controversy over Ralph Lauren's outsourced American uniforms could be easily swept away if we simply asked competitors to Spice Up Their National Pride. In the spirit of Geri "Ginger" Halliwell and the glorious British Empire, let's change the official Olympic apparel to glittery Union Jack mini-dresses. The clingy, aired-out material will probably be a blessing for male athletes, and—think about it—it's basically the closest we can get to togas. Just as our ancestors wanted.

Muse

By Jordan Valinsky

Yesterday, alt-rockers Muse announced that they'd be providing the official song of the upcoming 2012 Summer Games in London. The song, "Survival," premiered last night and was, according to the band, written "with the Olympics in mind. It's about total conviction and pure determination to win."

>> New Muse Track 'Survival' Chosen As Official Song Of The 2012 London Summer Olympic Games

"The song will be played throughout the Games including when athletes enter the stadium, in the lead up to the medal ceremony and also as the theme for all international TV coverage," the band continued on its website. "We are honoured that the Olympics have chosen our song to officially represent the London 2012 Olympic Games across the globe."

With people everywhere weighing in on the track, we wondered what other Olympic-themed songs were out there.

Here are four of the more recent and notable: Read More...
