thehillsfinale

This in from MTV News cameraman and producer Todd Brown, who spent last night at the party for finale of the third season of “The Hills”:

The party was held at a multi-million dollar mansion high up in Beverly Hills, far above Los Angeles. In order to get to the top of the hill, we had to load in to vans and drive up a steep and windy mountain road. Most of the “Hills” cast were there -- as well as Usher, The All-American Rejects, Tyga, Jessie McCartney, and Schwayze, to name a few. Surprisingly, and probably because of some underplayed and hardly-ever-mentioned beef with Lauren Conrad, Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt did not show.

In addition to the stars, there were hundreds of cocktail dress-wearing young fans, there for the chance to see their favorite semi-reality stars up close. After walking the red carpet, the “Hills” cast mingled with the fans and took pictures -- and then they all watched the show together on a huge, 30-foot outdoor screen.

The entire event was shot with more than 7 different camera crews, including the Goodyear blimp(!), and aired live on MTV and MTV.com.

I need to make a disclaimer: I do not watch "The Hills." I don't know a darn thing about any beef between the main characters. I do, however, know that it is the #1 show on the network which provides me with a means to eat. So when I was asked to cover the debut of Heidi Montag's fashion line Heidiwood, I was less than thrilled -- but happy to be getting paid!

At the Hollywood and Highland complex, 8pm on the dot, the fashion show's MC Perez Hilton (seriously) welcomed the crowd and kicked off the show. The clothes? Basic pieces but pretty cool for Heidi's first time out. She later told me that she's always loved fashion and has been trained at various schools all over the world. (Yeah, we'll Google that later too.) As the show came to a close, Heidi hit the stage wearing some of her designs. A few moments later her "ex-fiance" Spencer hit the stage, and the crowd went junior-high-school wild. There were flowers and a smooch (and rainbows and kittens and stickers). I'm sure we'll find out more about what's really going on with those two as this season of "The Hills" progresses. If you watch. Unlike me.

When I talked to Heidi backstage about Spencer, she said that he's a great friend, and that she "loves" him -- but, you know, with that I-love-him-like-a-friend kind of vibe. So we'll just have to wait to see what the future holds. Or something...?

I asked her about a possible "Hills" movie. She was extremely turned off by the notion and clearly has No Love for Lauren Conrad. (I asked her if the beef was real, and she looked me dead in the eye and said, "YES.") But girl has big-screen dreams of her own: she said she would love to be like Angelina Jolie and be able to play the "bad ass."

But here's the craziest revelation of the evening, from where I stand: I met Heidi...and I kind of liked her. [Ed: What were they serving at that show? Kool-Aid??] I mean, can all the gossip blogs be wrong? Is it wrong to be on Team Heidi?

ObamaIdol

Democratic candidate Barack Obama will make an appearance on tonight’s “Idol Gives Back” telecast, and both Hilary Clinton and Republican John McCain are expected to join him.

They're not going to be covering the Beatles or whatever -- rather, according to CNN, they’ll be appearing in pre-taped pieces set to air throughout “Idol”'s second-annual charity show.

And while McCain has bizarrely become linked with another uber-popular TV show, "The Hills," Obama is now claiming that "Idol" is the winner in his household, saying that his daughters Sasha and Malia are both "big 'American Idol' fans."

Last year "Idol Gives Back" raised more than $76 million for charities in Africa and here in the U.S.

And if you missed last night's "Idol, check out Jim Cantiello's recap.

Hi, Heidi!

We sort of work at the same company. Sort of. So we thought it was cool that you told Us Magazine that you were supporting John McCain for President, lest everyone think that MTV was filled with left-leaning Communists.

So anyway...it turns out John McCain loves you right back!

Our second-favorite redhead reporter in the world, Ana Marie Cox, is reporting that it's right back atcha, blondie!

He told Cox's blog, Swampland, that, "I'm honored to have Heidi’s support and I want to assure her that I never miss an episode of 'The Hills,' especially since the new season started."

Clearly, McCain's saucy daughter Meghan McCain (whom we love, btw), put him up to this.

Wonder if this will get him in trouble with Alan Keyes.
