Lady Gaga

In last week’s installment of “Bigger Than The Buzz,” MTV’s foremost pop culture connoisseurs, Tamar Anitai of Buzzworthy and MTV News’ own James Montgomery, discussed the breakout bands and artists of the summer of 2011.

This time around, the dynamic duo are taking on Lady Gaga’s manly alter ego, Jo Calderone, as well as the buzz around her latest single “You and I.” Tamar and James also reveal some behind-the-scenes MTV dirt about Evanescence (hint: they are the nicest band ever) and get to the root of the suddenly resurgent Steve Urkel.

Sure, '90's Nickelodeon played a key role in shaping our childhood. Doug and Patty provided us with fashion sense. Kenan and Kel made us fond of orange soda. “Are You Afraid of the Dark?” encouraged us to use a nightlight. These shows were crucial in the development of our young, innocent brains, but it was the radical movement of MTV that really had an impact on how we are today.

As young interns for MTV News, we can't ignore the influence certain programs had on us. It's one of the reasons we wanted to come here in the first place. So, while Nickelodeon’s re-airings of hits like “Doug” and “Clarissa Explains It All” are thrilling our slightly older MTV News colleges, we're hoping MTV will be inspired and re-play our favorite classics from the late '90s and early 2000s.

“Celebrity Deathmatch,” 1998-2002 – Matt Goodhue
In a time when WWF ruled my Monday nights, I needed another program to meet my wrestling needs during the week. “Celebrity Deathmatch” was the missing link. Not only could I watch claymation characters kick each other's asses in brutal ways, the matches featured celebrities and historical figures that I would have loved to see square off in the ring. Beavis vs. Butt-head. The Backstreet Boys vs. The Beastie Boys. Busta Rhymes vs. William Shakespeare. Pure genius. With commentators Johnny Gomez and Nick Diamond giving the play-by-play, “Celebrity Deathmatch” provided endless entertainment and a copious amount of blood and physical injury. Bring back the clay!

Guggenheim says, "this band has endured and thrived." The film, chronicling the rocker's talent and dedication to music, asks the question why.

While festival-goers will catch the band behind the scenes and off stage, we've begun to think of other bands and artists we'd be interested in seeing when the spotlight is off. Some come to mind because of their genius work and success, others because of the crazy lifestyle that we all want to see.

Kanye West
From spitting through the wire to his VMA antics with Taylor Swift, Kanye West is one artist who certainly lives an eccentric life. The Chicago rapper is constantly cranking out hits and sporting some swagged-out fashion, and I'm totally intrigued to see where his inspiration comes from. I wouldn't mind seeing him and Jay-Z collaborate and chill in the studio either. They both seem like some real cool dudes.

The Strokes
After not releasing an album for about 5 years, there must be some interesting story behind the bands on- and off-again status. Yet, the group still manages to produce some of the best rock music of our era. These New York City musicians seem like they couldn't care less about how they're received, which make them good candidates for the title of most badass band in the US. They must have some killer backstage parties, too.

The ‘90s are back, and so are your favorite shows. Last night, TeenNick premiered "The ‘90s Are All That," a statement anyone in their twenties or early thirties will most certainly agree with. Twitter has been burning up with love for the classic shows that made Nickelodeon the channel it is today. Shows like "iCarly," "Drake and Josh" and "Victorious" are wildly popular with the younger generation, but it was shows like "All That," "The Amanda Show," "Rugrats," “Clarissa Explains It All” and "Doug" that paved the way and still have a special place in our hearts.

The two-hour run of shows, which air weeknights from midnight to 2AM, is not just a block of programming, it’s a movement. Viewers can "Watch. Discuss. Obsess." on Facebook and Twitter. You can also join the ongoing conversation, keep up with the evolving schedule and catch all of your favorite clips and episodes on 90sareallthat.com.

In honor of this momentously awesome occasion, the staff here in the MTV Newsroom decided to unleash our inner tween and think back on our favorite Nick shows of the 1990s. You see, unlike the kiddies catching these shows for the first time on TeenNick, we were there the first time around. Sigh. Read More...

MANCHESTER, Tennessee — As you can probably imagine, it's not exactly easy cleaning up after 80,000 people, especially when they've just spent four very long days (and nights) drinking bottled everything and eating more arepas than anyone can count. And don't even get us started on the cigarette butts.

Still, for 10 years now, the Clean Vibes Crew has been doing exactly that at the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival, picking up, sorting, recycling and composting every single bit of trash the tens of thousands in attendance drop throughout the event. And with the 2011 'Roo now officially in the books, the real work is only just beginning. Starting today, the crew will walk arm-in-arm across the 800-acre farmland that the festival has called home since the very beginning. The goal, according to Clean Vibes owner Anna Borofsky, is simple.

"Every inch of land here we walk, arm to arm, and pick up every last cigarette butt or bottle cap," she says, "so it's a farm [again] when we leave."

It's a pretty daunting task, yet Borofsky and her crew — which includes more than 1,000 volunteers, who, in exchange for work, get free admission to the fest — have never once shrunk from the challenge. And though you probably don't notice their efforts during event, you definitely come to appreciate them. For the sheer size of the thing, Bonnaroo is a remarkably green event, the kind that prides itself on leaving as small an impact as possible ... even if that means stationing so-called "Trash Talk" volunteers at each and every trash receptacle, to make sure fans know which bits of trash go in what bin (and, for the record, they actually did this).

It's a pretty sizable undertaking, and after coming to Bonnaroo for several years, we've come to appreciate it more and more. So, this year, we decided to ride shotgun with Borofsky and the Clean Vibes Crew, to give you an idea of just how they take out (and sort) the trash.

This was my first year working at the MTV Movie Awards, and it turned out to be quite the experience. From seeing stars like Kristen Stewart, Emma Watson and more on the red carpet, to riding around the Universal Studios lot in a golf cart, nearly every day brought something new. There were also plenty of lessons to be learned. While it's fun to watch the awards as a viewer, there's a TON of work that goes into making sure the show goes off without a hitch, and there are also a lot of important rules (and insider lingo) to keep in mind if you're going to make it through the event. So, I decided to put together a Movie Awards survival guide for all those people aspiring to someday take part in this awesome event. Take notes!

1. Think Before You Socialize: When you've got the highly anticipated "Twilight" trailer in your office ahead of the world premiere, or insider info about Jim Carrey's surprise green-screen suit, it's hard to resist shooting out a tweet to let all your friends and followers in on the secret. But when it comes to the Movie Awards, discretion is important. Especially since one spoilery status update could ruin a surprise that people have worked on for months.

What do you get the celebrity who has everything? If you're Suz-Anna Dela Rosa, MTV's own director of ticketing and event hospitality, you start with a "Twilight" hair-care set (you know you love it) and a cutting-edge camera.

You see, Suz-Anna is responsible for putting together the totally awesome (and completely free) gift bags that are distributed to presenters, hosts and performers after the MTV Movie Awards, and she gave me the inside scoop on how she makes it happen. This year's bags include everything from high-tech gadgets to beauty products and gift cards (check out a report from MTV News' Jim Cantiello to get a peek at all the different goodies!), all of which were donated by sponsors eager to promote their brand, according to Suz-Anna.

"You want that exposure," she said, adding that each of the bags this year contains about $10,000 worth of swag (I'll give you a second to process that). "For them, it's priceless."

Suz-Anna said she usually seeks out companies that can provide products that are new, different and actually useful. This year, she anticipates the hot items to include a Casio TRYX camera that comes with a mini-tripod (in other words, no more taking pictures of yourself in the mirror!), a special edition Mattel Barbie T-shirt, a two-night stay at the boutique hotel Andaz, a Starbucks insulated mug with gift card (which is apparently always a big hit) and, of course, the "Twilight" hair-care set complete with the film's stickers.

"Just the whole 'Twilight' connection I think will be huge," said Suz-Anna, who added that the set includes a hair dryer, two types of curling irons, a straightener and a special brush. Um, how many of us wouldn't love to get our hands on this set?

Suz-Anna explained that, throughout the years, sponsors have offered a range of items. One company offered five packs for each celebrity (sponsors generally have to donate $150 worth of goods per bag to be considered), while another offered a free candy-for-life gift (I think I'll opt for that one).

"You run the gamut of what you get," she said. Of course, just because someone wants to give away free stuff doesn't mean they make the cut. Suz-Anna said she's definitely had to turn people away, including companies selling products that compete with the show's sponsors and those that offer items that are a little more "adult" in nature.

"We've had companies that have offered items that are completely inappropriate," she said. Yeah, I can see how that would be a problem.

Anyway, if you want a better look at all the cool stuff that's being doled out this year make sure you look at these photos. And on a more personal note, if there are any companies out there reading this that are suddenly feeling charitable with their swag, just know that I'm totally open to donations. Seriously, I'll take anything. Even if it's five packs of gum. (OK, who am I kidding? Even one free pack would send me over the moon!)

Although much of our news-gathering focus right now at MTV is tied to the impending 2011 Movie Awards, we mustn't forget about our other equally exciting event, the season finale of "America's Best Dance Crew," which airs Sunday, at 7:30 p.m. ET/PT, just before the Movie Awards kick off at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

Since we have a few connections here and there, we were able to send MTV News' intrepid reporter Jim Cantiello inside the top-secret rehearsals of the two remaining crews, IaMmE and ICONic Boyz, who took a few moments out of their busy schedules to teach Cantiello the key element of the Dougie, which, of course, is to have "sway." Check out Cantiello's "sway" and assorted moves below.
