Chris BrownLate Friday afternoon, we received the following statement from Chris Brown's rep. "Recently, unauthorized Chris Brown material was leaked online. Most of the unfinished songs were demos and reference tracks Brown and his production team were writing and producing for other artists. Brown's record label, Jive Records is doing everything possible to prevent any further illegal distribution of these tracks." So if you find some less-than-stellar Chris tunes online, don't blame him!

The clock is ticking down to MTV's 2008 Video Music Awards on September 7. For the past few weeks, we've been asking viewers to vote for their favorite nominees. And so far, the big names that you always hear about — Britney, Mariah, Kanye — have made the cut, as expected.

But let's just say the indie-rock world hasn't gotten much love this year. This past Sunday, when I spoke with King Khan, the Black Lips' Cole Alexander and Deerhunter's Bradford Cox at the Jelly NYC Pool Party in Brooklyn, out of nowhere, Alexander mentioned the VMAs. He brought it up, not me! That would be like talking about a big blowout party right in front of people you know didn't get invited.

Soon enough, the rest of the gang started chiming in: "How can we go? Please, please, please, let us come!" They promised not to curse and "not to bring any chickens or animals." Alexander swore he wouldn't bother Justin Timberlake, adding, "If you let us perform, I promise we'll be better than Britney was last year." But he admitted that wasn't saying much.

Perhaps as a nod to recovering pop tart, Cox offered to wear a dress with a snake around his neck, and possibly a Chihuahua. ... You've got to check out video for the rest.

Hot. What outrageous stunt would you pull to get a VMA invite? Let us know.

We asked a lot of celebs about "love you long time" recurring in pop culture — thanks to Mariah's new single — and now we're asking you: Do you find the phrase offensive or empowering?

Here's a sample of what some New Yorkers had to say:

Valerie Stahl: "It was used as derogatory in the film, and it's a sort of sexual joke, I'd say. It's more derogatory towards Vietnamese culture than women in particular, because of how it was used in the film, but it's also a shot at a woman as a sexual object. It's kind of ironic that a majority of these pop singers using it are women, so in a sense, it could be a term of empowerment of sexual freedom."

Catherine Sharp: "I think it's degrading, absolutely. To me it means someone, usually someone of Asian descent, in an area where prostitution is more common and where they're treated worse, even worse than they are here. I think it refers to that. I think a lot of people will just listen to the songs and not really notice it, but when you hear it, it's kind of a ridiculous thing to hear."

Sunjeoung Lee: "I feel like it's an issue of freedom of expression. It's OK to use it, but you have to be responsible. When you use whatever phrase, you have to know what kind of impact you're going to have on other people, especially if it's going to be Asian people, Asian women listening to that music."

Kai Kuroiwa: "Among Asian-Americans, it's kind of like a running joke, like something you might see in a pornographic film. I didn't even know it was being used in these songs. Among males, it's a different issue, but it is a race issue."

Cassy Wheeler: "I wouldn't listen to Mariah anyway. It seems like every time you turn on the radio they're talking about slamming women, just treating women without respect."

Hey, Bill O'Reilly says you should watch our show!

Bill is no fan of MTV, and he's certainly no fan of hip-hop. In fact, it's safe to say that O'Reilly has been one of rap's highest-profile critics since the glory days of C. Delores Tucker. Just last night, he was knocking Nas again, calling his new album a flop (Bill, it's #1 on the charts). So we were uh, flattered (shocked? appalled?) when this item crossed the transom ...

In all the years that I've been at MTV News, no other interview I've been assigned to has gotten me the number of "Have you talked to her yet???"s as today's sit-down with Miley Cyrus.

I know she's a big star, and I admit: "See You Again" is great at the gym. But, man — from everyone screaming outside the "TRL" tapings to about 17 co-workers stopping me in the hallways, everyone seemed very excited about Miley. I got to 1515 Broadway at 8 a.m. and was pretty amazed at the huge line that had already formed outside in anticipation of her arrival. Around 10 a.m., when Miley was scheduled to arrive, I finished typing out my questions and headed down to the studio.

She came in a little later and headed straight to the greenroom. And after apparently waking up at 6 a.m. for "Good Morning America," she was obviously exhausted as she ended up passing out on the couch while her team applied makeup.

We waited. And waited. Watched her rehearse and then tape some shows. Waited some more. Then at almost noon, we were told that it would be better if we just came back at 1. We came back and finally — finally! — at 1:30, she was whisked into the interview room and crews filed in, one after the other.

With the biggest names in baseball flying into town this week for what will be the last-ever
All-Star Game to be played at New York's legendary Yankee Stadium, we here at MTV News' New York offices have been stricken with baseball fever. It's hard to escape baseball this week. No matter where you turn, there's some sort of reminder that the fastest fielders, the strongest arms and the biggest bats in the game are all here, to ensure home-field advantage for their respective league in the fall classic.

All this baseball in the air got us thinking about music's all-stars — the artists who've shattered sales records this year, produced hit after hit and have been packing out arenas coast to coast. If music had an all-star game, who would we want to see in the dugout? After careful consideration, here are some of our picks — and feel free to let us know who'd go in your team in the comments section below. So, here goes.

Months ago, before Britney Houston had us all in stitches with her Pussycat Dolls parody, she was giving me dancing lessons ... sort of!

You see, back in February, (while I was pulling "American Idol" and "Project Runway" double duty,) my buddy Christopher Smith and I had the opportunity to develop and pilot a bunch of ideas for MTV News. One idea that we were super-excited about was called "The Newsical," where the MTV Newsroom would explode into an over-the-top musical number. I wrote a song and we began storyboarding. But we knew nothing about choreography or dancing (or, as some might argue, singing). So we put Britney Houston and her amazing, hard-working cohorts to work. Their job? Fill the frame with Broadway-style choreography, and help make us MTV Newsies look like triple-threats.

While the pilot ultimately never got picked up, and while the lyrics now refer to stories that are months old (and long forgotten ... Yoko Ono dropped a lawsuit? Huh?), we still hold a special place in our hearts for the Newsical and thought we'd share it with you all anyway. Keep your eyes peeled for a Britney Houston cameo (or three)!

Check out the lyrics after the jump. And bragging rights go to the first commenter who correctly guesses which week I'm singing about.

Who "grows up" better: PCD or BCD?

When we got a call from our favorite YouTube sensation Britney Houston, letting us know that she was going to be shooting her own video for the Pussycat Dolls' "When I Grow Up" right here in NYC, we couldn't pass up the opportunity to see her in action. Check out the “making of” the new “When I Grow Up” parody right here. Then watch the finished product and let us know who does it better, PCD or BCD?

50 CentBy Danielle Beavers

Almost anyone who's heard of 50 Cent would assume he is the epitome of a player. After Monday's experience with G-Unit, a few of our female interns now know just how big of one he truly is.

As a News intern, I sometimes get to sit in and watch how interviews are conducted. When word spread that 50 and G-Unit were on their way over for a sitdown with Tim Kash, a bunch of us jumped at the opportunity to help out. What ensued was both entertaining and slightly uncomfortable.
