Last night, season two of PBS’ zeitgeisty, soapy, addictive “Downton Abbey” premiered and we had to tune in to see what kind of dramz would go down now that WWI has broken out. And while we adore that there’s so much love on the show, we wish there was more love between Lady Mary and Downton Abbey heir Matthew Crawley. Without giving away too much about last night’s premiere, it seems that, for now, Mary and Matthew won’t get together for a while.
So, while Matthew goes off to war and Lady Mary’s left behind to hope that things can work out, we imagined a modern playlist for her to listen to while she pines away for good ol’ Matty (played by last week’s Hump Day Hottie Dan Stevens). And, yes, there’s LOTS of Brandy on there. Deal. With. It. (Ed note: We were careful to make sure these songs were released in the same century that “Abbey” takes place in: the 20th century. Also, deal with that.) Read More...
This is it, you guys. It's been real. Thanks for reading Newsroom Blog.
At about 6:28PM EST a 400-meter long asteroid will
strike … wait, it's not going to hit the earth. Oh, thank goodness! It's going to be 201,700 miles away? Well, that doesn't seem very close. Will we even be able to see it?
It's going to be closer than the moon, which is 238,864 miles away! So Asteroid 2005 YU55 (that's it's pet name, by the way), a four-football-fields-across object, will pass between the earth and the moon this evening. The largest object to get this close to earth since 1976, you say?
YIKES! RUN! HIDE!
And while you're sitting in your bunker (we know you have one) just in case listen to these spacey songs to get you through. Here's our Close Call Playlist! Read More...

Damn you, Mother Nature!
Shows are getting axed left and right as Hurricane Irene brings her winds and rain to the East Coast. Concerts and festivals featuring performances from Santigold, Cee-Lo Green, Dave Matthews Band, The Roots and Fitz & the Tantrums in New Jersey and New York have been canceled. It’s going to get very wet and maybe a little dangerous out there, so stay indoors and jam this playlist while you weather the storm.
“Rock You Like a Hurricane” by The Scorpions
“Hurricane” or “Blowin’ in the Wind” by Bob Dylan
“Umbrella” by Rihanna featuring Jay-Z
“Waterfalls” by TLC
“Like a Hurricane” by Neil Young

Hi, guys. Sorry if this post is a little terse. I have to get back to covering my mirrors, wearing all black, welcoming distant relatives from out of town and receiving elaborate gourmet food baskets. Stella's gone. Forever. Until the reunion. So, in honor of Stella's contribution to the show and — who am I kidding — my life, today's post is dedicated to her. Ins and Outs! And then ... we eulogize!
Ins and Outs and "Farewell, Stella" playlist after the jump!
