Grizzly Bear

By Zachary Swickey

It’s always nice when one of your favorite bands comes out of nowhere to announce their new album just a few months ahead of time, and that is exactly what has happened to us here at MTV News with Brooklyn harmonizers Grizzly Bear, who have revealed details behind their upcoming fourth album.

The follow-up to ‘09’s critically heralded Veckatimest is currently untitled but will hit the streets on September 18 via Warp (which is also home to member Chris Taylor’s amazing solo project, CANT). On top of that, Grizzly Bear released one of the new ten tracks, “Sleeping Ute,” to go along with their announcement. Listen:

The band also revealed a wealth of stateside tour dates in support of their newest effort, which will kick off just a couple of days before the album’s release on September 16 in Knoxville, Tennessee, before wrapping up at the iconic Greek Theatre in Los Angeles on October 10.

Nero

London dubstep duo Nero are the latest dance superstars set to join Madonna’s "MDNA Tour."

Nero, comprised of British-born producer-DJs Dan Stephens and Joe Ray, will open for M on the North American leg of her world tour, which kicked off last week in Tel Aviv, Israel, and just wrapped up a sold-out two-show run in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

Nero will open the show with a DJ set, featuring live vocals from Alana.

The group are the latest dance music stars enlisted by the Queen of Pop to open her largest-ever tour. Israeli DJ and producer Offer Nissim was the show-opener for the tour kick-off in Tel Aviv and Italian producer-DJ Benny Benassi, who produced three tracks on Madonna's most recent album MDNA, including the single "Girl Gone Wild" and "I'm Addicted" (one of the albums best tracks), handled the decks for the pop superstar's Abu Dhabi shows.

Nero recently appeared at Coachella, Sasquatch and the Electric Daisy Carnival NYC festivals and is also set to perform several shows on this summer’s IDentity Festival, as well as at Lollapalooza in Chicago and Hard Summer Los Angeles in August.

The "MDNA Tour" travels next to Istanbul, Turkey, the first stop on the 29-show European leg of the tour, where Madonna will be joined on selected dates by Alesso and Martin Solveig. Sloveig served as house DJ at Sunday's 2012 MTV Movie Awards and brought the house down with his own remixes of some of the most iconic movie themes of all time, from "Star Wars'" "Imperial March" to "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly Theme." Sloveig also produced several songs on Madonna's album, including the top ten single "Give Me All Your Luvin'" and one of our personal favorites, "Turn up The Radio."

Nero will take over when Madonna arrives in the U.S. on August 28 for an already sold-out show at Philadelphia's Wells Fargo Center. The group is also currently hard at work on the follow-up to their Welcome Reality album.

Madonna, Facebook

The answer shouldn't be that tough to guess.

Stats with "V," ends with "E." It appears on that rumored final set list we brought you earlier this week.

With her tour launch less than two weeks away, Madonna is deep in rehearsals for the "MDNA Tour." The big show kicks off at Tel Aviv, Israel's Ramat Gan Stadium on May 31, and our tragically straight boyfriend her hunky manager Guy Oseary has been keeping us up-to-date as the show comes together, posting images from rehearsals on his Twitter and her official Facebook page.

These are the latest. Looks like she's striking quite a pose, yes?

The ever-vigilant Madonna-watcher over at Boy Culture (among a few other sites, including notoriously reliable Madonnarama) are claiming to have their hands on the final set list for Her Madgesty's soon-to-launch "MDNA Tour." (Which is not to be confused with an earlier set list that was floating around … apparently that was just for fun.)

>> Madonna Celebrates #1 Album With Surprise Party Backstage At Tour Rehearsals

If this is indeed what fans around the world will be hearing when the tour kicks off at Tel Aviv, Israel's Ramat Gan Stadium on May 31 (two days later than previously scheduled due to production delays), we think fans will be pleased. The set list manages to be a good mix of the best from MDNA and some smartly selected classics, along with a few surprises.

>> Madonna Tour Kick-off Pushed Back Because Of 'Production Delays'

There is definitely some stuff missing – if this truly is the final set, Madonna, Ray of Light and Erotica are not represented at all – but with a catalogue as vast as Madonna's, something has to give. We're also a little surprised to see both "Vogue" and "Like a Prayer" on the list, as she performed both on her "Sticky and Sweet" tour and rarely repeats her back catalog picks in successive tours.

>> Madonna Shows Off Tour Rehearsal Injuries (Photos)

We are also sad to see a few songs that were mentioned on earlier rumored set lists missing here, notably "Take a Bow," which she has never performed on tour, and "Secret," as well as fan-favorite classics "Physical Attraction" and "Dress You Up." They appear to have been replaced with a few questionable selections, including "Revolver" and "Candy Shop."

>> Madonna Plans To Address Anti-Gay Russian Law During St. Petersburg Concert

Also, what exactly does "'Express Yourself' (meets 'Born This Way')" mean? Someone is looking to rile people up, yes? We wouldn't have it any other way!

Check out the rumored setlist below and sound off in the comments. Did she get it right? Is something missing that you were dying to hear? Let us know in the comments below. Read More...

Diplo

By Zachary Swickey

Haven’t you always dreamt about vacationing on a train through Canada while fist-pumping to some of your favorite electronic dance music artists, including Skrillex and Diplo? Well, you may now live out that fantasy as the producer/DJ masterminds have joined forces with EDM acts Pretty Lights and Grimes for a good old fashioned railroad tour.

Taking a page from Mumford & Sons’ "Railroad Revival" tour – which found them performing sets on train stops with Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros and Old Crow Medicine Show – the “Full Flex Express" tour will make six stops across Canada.

All of the acts will travel on an assumingly rambunctious private passenger train together between each of the stops. Each show will feature multiple stages in a “festival event,” according to a press release of the tour. KOAN Sound and Tokimonsta are also included on the bill.

If we’re lucky, we may eventually get a rad documentary out of the journey, as Mumford & Sons did with their railroad trek. “Big Easy Express” was shot by iconic music video-directing vets The Malloys, and chronicled the unique railway tour.

The train will head out immediately following Skrillex’s headlining slot at this year’s Camp Bisco Festival in New York.

"Full Flex Express" tour dates:

7/13 - Toronto, ON - Fort York
7/14 - Ottawa, ON - Ottawa Blues Fest
7/15 - Montreal, QC - Parc Jean Drapeau
7/18 - Winnipeg, MB - Shaw Park
7/20 - Edmonton, AB - Kinsmen Park
7/22 - Vancouver, B.C. - PNE Coliseum

Whether or not bigger is always better is up for debate, but both Madonna and Lady Gaga are approaching their respective world tours with a "go big or go home" attitude when it comes to staging.

Earlier this week, we reported that Gaga's elaborate Gothic castle stage for her "Born This Way Ball" is the "largest scenic structure that's ever been built to tour." But don't confuse that feat with "the largest video screens ever created" to hit the road, because those are going to be toted around the world for Her Madgesty's "MDNA Tour." Got that?

Now, we're getting our first peak at M's jumbo screens, courtesy of our hunky boyfriend her manager Guy Oseary, who posted several images from the first days of full production rehearsal for the tour. Check this thing out:

Pretty rad, huh?

In another image (after the jump), we also get a first look at how the pit, where select fans will get to enjoy the show from, will be structured. The concept is similar to the Monster Pit Gaga is featuring on her "BTW Ball" – a small enclosed area directly in front of the main stage surrounded by a catwalk – the only difference being how the heck fans get in there for the best view in the house. Entrance to the "MDNA Tour" pit is via a random-selection contest fans have to enter in advance, while Gaga's Monster Pit is a general admission area filled by the first fans in line at the concert.

D'Angelo

By Zachary Swickey

Nearly a year ago, we reported that smooth R&B crooner D’Angelo was finally in the studio working on a new album when we were tipped off by the Roots’ drummer Questlove’s Twitter account, and now the singer is finally plotting his return to the stage with his first U.S. concert in over a decade at the 2012 Essence Music Festival.

D’Angelo's been a virtual recluse for the last ten-plus years, but he is confirmed to be part of the opening night festivities at the New Orleans festival, which runs from July 6 to July 8, with Trey Songz, Aretha Franklin, Mary J. Blige, and many others also set to appear.

The singer has slowly been returning to public life and gave live performing a test drive with a handful of dates in Europe earlier this year. Review were thankfully glowing and suggest that the singer has definitely still got it. He even performed two (reportedly pretty slick) new tracks, “The Charade” and “Sugar Daddy.”

D’Angelo recently put to rest years of legal drama relating to his March 2010 arrest for allegedly soliciting a prostitute. He pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct and appears ready to move on from the incident.

For those in need of a refresher: D’Angelo’s last effort was 2000’s Voodoo, which went multiplatinum and earned the singer two Grammy Awards, including best R&B album. He became quite notorious for the music video for “Untitled (How Does It Feel)," which featured the singer serenading the camera for four minutes straight against a black backdrop while completely nude.

There has been little information on D’Angelo’s upcoming album since our initial report, but his return to the stage is a promising sign that it’s moving forward (albeit slowly but surely).

Lady Gaga's "Born This Way Ball" launched with a controversial bang last week when the pop diva took the stage at Seoul, South Korea's Olympic Stadium in front of 45,000 screaming fans.

All of those fans were adults, as we reported earlier, because the Korea Media Rating Board elevated the age rating for the concert from 12 to 18, prohibiting minors from seeing the show. The Board did not offer a reason why the show – which at the time of the imposed age restriction was still in rehearsals and has not been reviewed publicly – was considered unsuitable for children under 18.

Later, as the concert neared, the likely catalyst for the board's decision came more into focus as protests from a group of conservative Christians calling itself the Alliance for Sound Culture in Sexuality ramped up. The group papered Seoul with posters accusing Gaga of "spreading unhealthy sexual culture" through "lewd lyrics and performances."

So there's that.

The news today though is that her elaborate stage is the "largest scenic structure that's ever been built to tour," according to US Weekly. The stage, designed by Gaga and her creative team Haus of Gaga, took several months to construct and includes an enclosed area surrounded by a catwalk known as "The Monster Pit," a general admission area for hardcore fans who arrive early to the show. The very first Little Monster to arrive is given a commemorative key for the pit. The stage is modeled after a Gothic castle featuring viewing towers, intricate carvings and other medieval trappings.

LOS ANGELES – Jack White already had two dates booked at LA’s iconic venue The Wiltern for the end of May when he suddenly added a date at the Mayan Theater for April 30.

Hitting the stage in a jet black long-sleeve shirt and black jeans to match, White brought out a group of six females as his new backing band: a wild-looking drummer, a flapper-esque violinist, a stand-up bassist (who was pregnant), a Dutch slide guitarist, a ravishing backup singer who doubled as tambourine master, and finally a cute young woman on keyboards.

White wasted no time diving right into material from his brand-new debut solo effort, Blunderbuss, which is expected to take Billboard’s #1 spot when the charts are revealed tomorrow. Our first taste was the album’s opening track, “Missing Pieces,” which the crowd had clearly already memorized as they sang along to every word. White’s latest single “Sixteen Saltines” was next and it whipped the crowd into a frenzy as they chanted along, “Who’s jealous, who’s jealous, who’s jealous of who?”

Next up was an old-school White Stripes track, “Hotel Yorba,” the first single from their ’01 effort White Blood Cells and their last as a little-known band – "Fell In Love with a Girl” what their next release. White next represented his outfit The Raconteurs with a cover of their tune “Top Yourself.”

Blunderbuss got some more representation as White ripped into “Love Interruption,” which enjoyed one of the more boisterous sing-a-longs of the evening. We were then treated to one of the album’s finest tracks, “Weep Themselves to Sleep,” which sounds like a number out of an Old West saloon (with a bit of grungy guitar added for modern flavor). Next up was “I’m Slowly Turning Into You” from the Stripes’ Icky Thump before White broke into his Dead Weather outfit's rocking “Blue Blood Blues.”

Lady Gaga has a gift for whichever intrepid fan finds him or herself first in line at her "Born This Way Ball" world tour.

Mother Monster is giving away a ''Monster Pit key'' to the first fan waiting at each of the "BTW Ball's" 110 dates and is having that fan sign the real key to the Monster Pit, an enclosed general admission area around the stage reserved for hardcore fans, which she is collecting for … um, something. (Herself? Perhaps to remember the tour by?)

Tweeting a picture of a skull-like mock up of herself with her ponytail serving as the "key," she wrote, "This is a necklace I'll give to the first monster in line every night at the Ball. It's a symbol of the 'key' that opens the pit every night."

Lady Gaga, Twitter

She's keeping the real key to the pit for herself though. In a follow-up tweet, she elaborated: "The real monster pit key will be signed by this fan and returned to me. There'll be 110 necklaces & signatures Mar. 2013."

The "Bad Romance" singer kicks off her world tour today (April 27) in Seoul, South Korea. Late last night, she tweeted about being nervous for the start of the tour. ''This is a very special moment for Haus of Gaga. We thank you so much. Enjoy our music, fashion installations & pop performance art tonight," she wrote. ''Nervous for tonight. Hope I make little monsters happy and proud."

Don't worry, Gaga, we're certain they will be falling all over themselves the second you hit the stage!
