Diplo

By Zachary Swickey

After Girl Talk's successful invasion of college campuses late last year, producer/DJ Diplo is ready to do the same later this month with hip-hoppers Chiddy Bang in tow.

The concert series, dubbed the “AXE One Night Only Tour,” began in 2010 with gigs from TI and Weezer, and has evolved into a bona fide guerilla college campus invasion of sorts beginning with Girl Talk's low-key 2011 dates.

The tour offers a chance for fans to see their favorite acts (for free!) in much more intimate settings than they’re used to. For example, we witnessed Girl Talk perform for around 200 people when he’s used to playing for thousands of rabid fans. Keeping things spontaneous, each show will be announced on AXE’s Facebook and Twitter pages just days before it takes place.

If you want to snatch tickets to the exclusive event, you’ll have to track down the AXE truck that will be roaming around the college campuses. (Don’t worry as it’ll surely be noticeable and hit up the high-traffic areas in each city.) No tickets will be sold, so it’s your only chance. Each ticket comes with a “plus one,” but to ensure they fill up each venue to capacity, they’re giving out more tickets than there are spots available – so get there early is what we’re sayin’.

Diplo and Chiddy Bang are expected to hit seven college towns and the tour kicks off on March 27 with the location of the first date being announced on March 23. Keep your eyes peeled and in the meantime chill out to Diplo’s awesome Usher collab “Climax” or lose your mind to his new dance jam "Express Yourself." Read More...

Madonna, Facebook

By Zachary Swickey

Haven’t you always wanted to see Madonna perform on the same field that British Soldiers defeated the French in 1759? Well, now’s your chance as officials for Quebec City’s historic Plains of Abraham have announced the Queen of Pop will be performing on the park grounds late this summer.

The Canadian city is bending its own rules to accommodate Her Madgesty. The venue has a strict policy forbidding for-profit concerts on the grounds, which was declared the very first historic site in Canada back in 1908.

Concert promoter Live Nation Entertainment will be presenting the concert on September 1 and a staggering 70,000 tickets have already been sold. Madonna is clearly working hard to put together a show that will delight her fans, and she's been keeping us all in the loop by posting pictures from rehearsals (including the injuries she's sustained) for the massive, largely sold-out world tour on her Facebook (one of which is above).

Typically, the park has been used for the Quebec Winter Carnival, but since 2008, concerts have taken place there with appearances from Sir Paul McCartney, Metallica, Elton John and Van Halen. However, none of those artists charged anything for tickets.

Talking to the Canadian Press, local promoter Sylvain Parent-Bedard explained that charging admission will allow them to limit capacity to the event to avoid an uncomfortably large crowd (200,000 people showed up to McCartney’s gig).

“(Madonna) really wants to have a big dance party. It’s a big party for fans – she wanted a big party for fans,” he said.

Joanne Laurin, spokesperson for the National Battlefields Commission, told the wire service, “Generally, we don't accept any commercial activity, but in this case it's really exceptional. But people shouldn't presume anything regarding future requests we might get." (Basically, it sounds like we should only expect Madonna to get special treatment.)

She explained her reasoning to the Globe and Mail newspaper, "We accepted it because we presume there will be major economic benefits for Quebec City."

With One Direction storming the plaza at "Today" and Bieber fever heating up again as the release of "Boyfriend" nears, teenage boy pop is all the rage again. And now, two of the genre's hottest acts are teaming up for a summer tour.

Australian teen dream Cody Simpson is set to hit the road with the boys of Big Time Rush for a summer tour behind his still-untitled debut. The poster also debuted the album's first single, "So Listen," a clubby dance track featuring T-Pain.

Although Simpson is drawing comparisons to Justin Bieber, the young singer told MTV News that he really aspires to be more like Justin Timberlake. "He has such a sophisticated presence," Simpson said of Timberlake. "I watched his FutureSex/LoveSounds tour, and it's something you really get inspired by. He does so much in the show: He plays piano and guitar and he just is always singing. He sounds amazing live and he dances great. He's just an all-around entertainer. That's something I want to strive to be. It's always good to have someone you want to be like."

LMFAO want to bring the party to your town. The duo has announced plans for a tour with one very lengthy title: "Redfoo and Cherrytree Present: Sorry for Party Rocking Tour Featuring LMFAO and the Party Rock Crew and Special Guests."

RedFoo and Sky Blu will be joined by Far East Movement, the Quest Crew, Sidney Samson, Eva Simons and Natalia Kills. The 26-date tour will kick off on May 22 in Columbus, Ohio, before partying all around the country, including stops in Seattle, Los Angeles, Atlanta and Miami. The tour will wrap up on July 4 in Toronto.

The guys have had their eyes on a splashy headlining tour for some time now. Last year, they teased that in addition to continuing to release singles and videos off their album Sorry for Party Rocking, they also had some big-time tour plans, specifically for their female fans. "So you never can tell, but we are getting into the videos on this album and just doing fun stuff, keeping it going, performing, headlining tour and just continue to express and entertain at the same time and please the women."

Just last week, the guys released their music video for the album’s title track. The eye-popping clip features the fellas throwing the ultimate cartoon-like house party, with cameos from David Hasselhoff and the Quest Crew. It follows animal-print-clad Red and Sky as they anger neighbors, but amp up partygoers in a surreal world made up of cardboard cutouts and animations, perhaps a tease of what the tour will look like.

Madonna

Adele isn't the only one proving that a little good exposure goes a long way.

On the heels of Madonna's much-watched, well-received Super Bowl XLVI halftime show, the Queen of pop's summer upcoming world tour is unsurprisingly selling out arenas and stadiums across the U.S. and has even added multiple dates to accommodate demand. Now, a Madge sellout is a pretty common thing – her 2008-09 "Sticky & Sweet Tour" is the highest grossing ever for a solo artist – but the pop superstar appeared to have adopted a "go big or go home" attitude with this tour, booking massive venues like London's Hyde Park and New York's Yankee Stadium, and it seems to have paid off. Her Sept. 6 concert at Yankee Stadium sold out in hours, forcing a second date, on Sept. 8, to be added.

All told, Madonna has already added five shows – two in Europe and three in the U.S. – to what was already her largest tour itinerary, 90 planned dates that would take Madonna to five continents, including M's first trek through Australia in over 20 years. So far, the added shows include NYC's Yankee Stadium on September 8, Washington DC’s Verizon Center on September 24 and Seattle on October 3 as well as Europeans dates in Berlin June 30 and in Amsterdam July 8. Tickets for the additional shows in the U.S. go on sale February 21.

Earlier this week, the world’s collective boo, Jordan Knight, announced his plans to hit the road for a solo tour. The jaunt kicks off later this month, and in anticipation of what we are sure will be the greatest night of your life, the New Kid himself hopped on the phone with us to preview his tour plans.

“I have a full band; I have two dancers, so they’ll be some good choreography. It’ll be a real show. It’s not me just kind of going around taking up my time,” he teased. “And, it’s a real deal thing: a band, dancers, full-length show, a lot of excitement, a lot of crowd participation, singing a bunch of songs from the album Unfinished and also other solo songs as well from the past.”

Given the fact that Jordan has been busy touring with his boys in the New Kids On The Block and the Backstreet Boys, it would seem like he might want to chill out for a bit, but that’s not the case. At all. “I think I had to do it because I did an album and I never got the chance to go out and actually perform the songs. I did it at after parties, but that was just off-the-cuff,” he said. “I wanted to do a real show because I put so much into the album and the songs I believe are so great and I got such a great response from the fans, so it's the fans [who] really kind of cheered me on to do it. They really wanted me to do it.” Read More...

Katy Perry

By Zachary Swickey

We already knew that U2 was going to set a new record for highest grossing tour of all time, and of course they have now officially done so – pulling in $293 million more bones this year alone (which means they could pretty much recreate Scrooge McDuck’s swimming pool of money in the real world) from 44 shows as Billboard reports in their list of the top-grossing tours of 2011.

While vets like U2, Bon Jovi, Roger Waters and Take That (Take Who?) take the four top spots, the younger generation of artists aren’t far behind in the money race with birthday girl Taylor Swift rounding out the top five (blowing away several big name acts like the Eagles and Journey who have apparently not stopped believin’). The country charmer grossed a staggering $97 million on her 89-date tour behind Speak Now … 87 of which were impressively sold-out!

Plenty of other MTV favorites managed to make the list. Read on to find out who! Read More...
