Carly Rae

Carly Rae Jepsen has been the victim of every girl's worst nightmare. During a recent show her skirt blew up, putting her pastel-colored undergarments on not-so-proud display.

"It's windy, so if you're wearing a skirt like I am today make sure you have booty shorts. I learned that once the hard way and flashed an entire audience with my pink panties. I said, 'Do you like my pink underwear?' and that was about it. Then we moved on," she told MTV News backstage at the Pop-Tarts Crazy Good Summer Concert held late last week in Chicago at the Charter One Pavilion.

Her skirt, it should be noted, remained in its right place during this latest gig.

It is advice she might want to heed before she heads out on the road with her boss, Justin Bieber, this fall. She'll be opening for the chart-topper on his "Believe Tour" when it kicks off in September. The tour is timed around the release of the "Call Me Maybe" singer's album release.

That should also give her just enough time to get all the hot pants she might need.

If recent leaked documents are to be believed, the music and entertainment offerings at this year's Olympic ceremony in England are going to be demi godly; The Who, One Direction, Ed Sheeran, Fatboy Slim, Kaiser Chiefs, Jessie J, the remaining members of Queen, and Russell Brand are all mentioned as likely performers.

But despite some early back and forth, it's looking like one gig you can count on will be, of all things, a Spice Girls reunion.

There's been on-again-off-again speculation about this reunion for a few months now, but Victoria "Posh" Beckham seemed to confirm over the radio today that, yup, the Spice Girls will play two songs to close out the games. Asked about a possible reunion, she said, "I don't know about a comeback tour, but I loved being back with the girls...we are very excited about the Olympics."

So get those "Wannabe" lyric sheets out and get practicin' on re-masterin' the best tongue-twister of 1996!

We're pretty stoked to see Sporty, Scary, Ginger, Posh and Baby share the stage again. Their last gig together was in 2008, and since then the pop music landscape has only got more diva-centric. How will they adjust to the current musical climate? Can we expect a dubstep remix of "Wannabe"? (Oh God—it already exists!)

Only time will tell what the Spice reunion brings. But we'll definitely be celebrating—and you know, we feel like the Olympic organizers should also do something to honor this unprecedented union of the greatest athletes in the world and one of the most legendary girl groups of all time. We'd like to submit the following five Spice Girl-themed Olympic Celebrations for the committee's consideration:

1. Give every athlete Spice Girl nicknames. "Sporty" is already taken, so we're gonna need some creativity here. Let's see…Michael Phelps can be "Super Saiyan Spice." Usain Bolt is "Showoff Spice." And Serena Williams can be "Truly, Truly Scary Spice." There's three free ones. Y'all Olympic guys can fill in the rest.

2. Add "The Girl Power Cup: a third-wave feminism triathlon." In this new long-form, three-part race, Olympians will compete to bring balance to gender politics. The first contestant to end exploitative reality television programming, equalize men and women's pay in the workplace, and be elected president of a Western nation wins. Girls only.

3. Add the "2 Become 1"-legged race. Teams of two will stand back-to-back while a moderator binds their ankles, legs, waists and chests together with official "Spice Wire," then compete in a grueling 100-meter hop. This is essentially a more important Sleeping Bag Race, or a way, way less awful and terrifying Human Centipede.

4. Add the "If You Wannabe a Champion" Singing Marathon. Each participating nation will elect one champion to recite the opening "I'll tell ya what I want, what I really, really want" tongue-twister unabated throughout the entirety of their Olympic itinerary (competitors in aquatic events may use snorkels or tap the lyrics on the poolside ledge in Morse Code, if preferable.) The last contestant to give up singing or pass out wins!

5. Make Athletes Wear Union Jack Mini-Dresses. All this controversy over Ralph Lauren's outsourced American uniforms could be easily swept away if we simply asked competitors to Spice Up Their National Pride. In the spirit of Geri "Ginger" Halliwell and the glorious British Empire, let's change the official Olympic apparel to glittery Union Jack mini-dresses. The clingy, aired-out material will probably be a blessing for male athletes, and—think about it—it's basically the closest we can get to togas. Just as our ancestors wanted.

Cal Shapiro and Rob Resnick are Under the Influence on their recently dropped mixtape!

While weekly Tuesday night videos may have gotten their name out there, Timeflies have broken through and are showcasing their talent with more of their own creations in addition to covers of such hits as The Wanted's "Glad You Came" and Rihanna's "We Found Love." The band tells MTV News, "It was really cool to take a hook that may have been written to mean one thing and take it in a new direction. The challenge is always to make music you can listen to in a variety of situations that’s emotional and fresh."

The band has been on tour for much of the last year, leaving us to wonder when they found time to create such polished songs. "Only one of the songs was started on tour," Cal tells MTV News. "The rest of the songs were either from days we had off and were briefly in the city at home, or things we'd started for Timeflies Tuesdays and decided we wanted to save to get a chance to really work on."

"What was so great about this project was that it was sort of a fusion of our original stuff and what we'd been putting out in our weekly Timeflies Tuesdays," Rez adds.

Timeflies tells us that the song “Stand By Me” is a beat Rez made before the guys even created their first album, The Scotch Tape. “Sleep Forever” was also an original that the two had written a while back.

In addition to their highly anticipated mixtape, the two have managed to put together another tour schedule where they will travel across the country to meet their West Coast fans. "We'll be hitting up the East Coast and then journeying westward. Haven't done much out West, so that should be awesome," Cal says.

We weren't at all surprised to find out the two are already working on their next album as well. They have decided to drift away from the cover song scene and will make this album of entirely original material. “We're really pumped to be working on all original stuff. We haven't gotten to do that in a while and it's definitely what we're most passionate about,” Cal tells MTV News. “As we get bigger we keep raising the bar on what we expect of ourselves. There's always more to be done and that keeps us working.”

“Hopefully we'll have some cool collaborations on this project and get some of these tracks remixed by some dope people in the electronic dance music (EDM) world. We feel like as long as we stay focused on the music and continue to have a good time, it's going to keep getting crazier,” Rez adds.

Upbeat music appealing to fans of all genres, Under the Influence is a mixtape you’ll want to check out!

Russell Brand

By Meredith Goldberg-Morse

Everyone has their own idea of the perfect wedding. For some, it may be an intimate ceremony on the beach; others prefer a raucous part-until-the-sun-comes up celebration. For those of you whose dream wedding includes a celebrity officiant, well, you’re in luck—Russell Brand may soon be qualified to make your special day that much more special.

The British comedian-slash-actor (slash former Mr. Katy Perry) is rumored to be interested in applying for a vicar’s license after coming across a website offering the necessary qualification. Stars—they waste time finding absurd things on the Internet just like us!

A source reportedly told British tabloid The Sun, “Russell is genuinely interested in the idea of marrying a couple. Now he’s getting matey with Tom Cruise, his pals have been joking that he could do the honors at the star’s fourth wedding.”

Brand, whose 14-month marriage to Katy Perry was officially dissolved this week, recently admitted to Howard Stern that he is enjoying his post-divorce freedom. As he explained on Stern’s radio show, “It was a lovely relationship. It mostly didn’t work for practical reasons. We’ve gone our separate ways.”

Soon-to-be-married couples, take a moment to thank the Internet for making your dream of standing at the altar next to Russell Brand a genuine possibility.

Steve Angello

In its 12th year running, Global Dance Festival was meant to be a three-day euphoric celebration of the very best in electronica, set at Morrison, Colorado’s picturesque Red Rocks Amphitheater. Knife Party, Hardwell, Above & Beyond, 12th Planet, Kill The Noise, Felix Cartal, Wolfgang Gartner and Dillon Francis are among the artists slated to perform.

Today, they join the world in grieving alongside the neighboring town of Aurora. Roughly a 30-45 minute drive from Morrison, Aurora was struck by tragedy early this morning (July 20) when a lone gunman opened fire on moviegoer’s at a midnight screening of "The Dark Knight Rises," killing 12 and injuring 38.

Global Dance Festival could not be reached for comment at press time, but it appears the show will go on as planned this evening, with one artist already planning to dedicate his headlining set to the memory of those tragically lost in Aurora. In a written statement to MTV News, Swedish House Mafia member and veteran house music DJ/producer Steve Angello said:

"I'd like to express my deepest condolences to the families of those affected by the horrible events in Aurora, Colorado. It's unfair that so many precious lives were lost in this tragedy and during a leisure activity that so many of us participate in every day. Tonight's performance at Global Dance Festival is dedicated to the memory of those we lost in Aurora, Colorado."

A suspect, identified as 24-year-old James Holmes, is in custody. For the very latest details surrounding this morning’s tragic event stay tuned to MTV News.

The Killer

By Brandon Specktor

The Killers gave us a taste of Battle Born, their first new album in four years, with the self-explanatory propulsion of "Runaways." The new track is sparkly and nostalgic, and, like any taste of something sweet, left us hungry for more. Now, we've got more, thanks to some fan footage of the band's tour-opening set in Asheville, North Carolina last night, where they debuted three brand new songs!

As with any bootleg, the sound here is a little murky, but clear enough to provide us a promising sip of the Battle Born brew. "Miss Atomic Bomb" rockets from that signature Killers slow-bleed opening into a hand-clapping, bass-kicking triumph that shows Brandon Flowers trying on his best Springsteen swag to reminisce about love amid Nevada nuke tests.

We've already gotten a taste of "Flesh and Bones'" baroque synth blippery in the Battle Born album trailer, but the track quickly builds into the Killers' most infectious new chorus—at least, infectious enough that everyone in Asheville already seems to know the words without a proper track existing yet.

And finally we get to dip our toes into the "Rising Tide," the most consistently upbeat of these three new offerings, whose dancey ebullience even makes room for a few "hallelujahs" as the stage lights go fittingly supernova overhead.

Battle Born is due out September 18 on Island. If you didn't snag tix to one of The Killers' sold-out East Coast gigs, there's still time to catch them at Delaware's Firefly Festival before they ship off to Europe for a minute.

Check out "Rising Tide" below. Read More...

Beck

By Zachary Swickey

It seems like Beck is taking a page out of the Flaming Lips’ playbook by releasing new music in a particularly unique fashion. The eccentric singer-songwriter is set to reveal three songs through a new PS3 video game titled "Sound Shapes."

The tracks – “Cities,” “Touch the People” and “Spiral Staircase” – will each be found on a different level of the game, which is set for release in a just a few weeks. Sony states that the new PS3 game is “a classic side-scrolling platformer where your actions make the music.” Sounds like quite the intriguing concept to us.

Other artist tracks set to appear are Deadmau5, I Am Robot And Proud and Jim Guthrie.

Beck is on a roll, having recently released his Jack-White produced track “I Just Started Hating Some People Today” as well as a new B-side “Blue Randy” after a lengthy period without new material. Of course, the tracks were recorded at White’s Third Man Studio in Nashville while Beck was in town working on the follow-up to his ’08 effort Modern Guilt.

Third Man Studios is boasting an eclectic group of artists who have recently recorded there: Tom Jones, Laura Marling and, recently, Radiohead.

Details on Beck’s next official album have been scant. The only mention of it seems to come from postings by bass player Justin Meldal-Johnsen, who tweeted that the new songs “would blow your mind.”

In the meantime, "Sound Shapes" is expected to be released on August 7.

Madonna

Meredith Goldberg-Morse

Another tour stop, another controversy for Madonna, who can’t seem to catch a break on her wildly successful but endlessly dramatic "MDNA Tour."

Since the tour’s kickoff, Madonna has flashed Istanbul, mooned Rome, angered a French Front National party leader to the point of legal action and kind of snubbed the entirety of Australia. And just when we thought she’d run out of international populations to offend, the superstar singer is now on the receiving end of criticism from Polish citizens regarding the scheduling of her Warsaw tour stop.

The concert, scheduled for August 1, falls on the 68th anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising, the start of a 63-day rebellion that resulted in more than 200,000 deaths and left the city devastated. The commemoration is a somber one, marked by the wailing of a siren, a moment of silence and special prayers—pretty much the antithesis of the mood at a Madonna concert. Veterans and young Catholics have raised concerns about the performance distracting from the gravity of the day’s history.

Concert organizers have agreed to air a clip about the Uprising at the beginning of the Queen of Pop's show to honor veterans. As a Live Nation spokesman explained, "It is an important moment in Polish history, so we have decided to remind people of that moment."

This isn’t the first time Madonna’s incurred the ire of Polish citizens. Her use of Christian imagery often offends the largely Roman Catholic population, and her "Sticky & Sweet Tour" ignited protests back in 2009 when her concert coincided with the August 15 holiday celebrating the heavenly assumption of the Virgin Mary. Perhaps a bit more research is in order before she schedules her next visit to Warsaw.

Hopefully the clip, an idea proposed by city officials, will diffuse any tension between Madonna and the Poles before she moves on to her inevitable next controversy.

Adam Lambert

By Bryant Gilmore

Sorry, "Pretty Little Liars" fans, you may have to wait a little bit longer to find out who this new "A" is, but we've got some big news about another mysterious figure who is set to appear on the addictive hit teen thriller.

Adam Lambert will be stopping by Rosewood, hopefully to give our four favorite ladies a much-needed break from the new, more bad-ass A, who has kept the girls on their pretty little toes from week to week. The episode starts taping next week and will air in October around Halloween. He will even perform two songs and share a scene with Lucy Hale, according to Ryan Seacrest, who revealed the news earlier today (July 19) on his radio show.

With Lambert’s flamboyant flair on set, what kind of Halloween costumes do you think that the girls will rock this year?

This is shaping up to be the year of Glambert. His second album, Trespassing, debuted at the top of Billboard charts in May, making him the first openly gay artist to do so, and he recently got to step into Freddie Mercury’s shoes and perform with the legendary band Queen in London. Lambert’s achievements continue the tradition of "American Idol" contestants that have gone on to have great success despite not winning, a list that includes Clay Aiken, Oscar and Grammy winner Jennifer Hudson and "Smash" starlet Katharine McPhee.

Coincidentally, the rumor mill has been rampant with talk that Lambert may be taking over one of the "Idol" judge's chairs now that Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler have exited, which would make him the first "Idol" contestant to return to the show as a judge.
