Justin Bieber

By Elizabeth Lancaster (@lizzydl)

Justin Bieber may keep it PG in his albums and videos, but the 18-year-old pop star may not be quite as wholesome as he lets on to his young fans.

On a 12-hour Air New Zealand flight back to the U.S. following his Down Under promo tour, Justin and his entourage took over first class and got into some trouble. According to TMZ, Biebs and Co. were shouting curse words (including the four letter ones) so loudly over the course of the trip that a nearby mother of two reprimanded Justin. She instructed him to "stop yelling curse words and using that kind of language on a plane. It's not appropriate." Amen.

While we are sure Justin does not get told what to do very often, he was embarrassed and reportedly apologized to the woman.

Maybe Justin is in need of other spaces and outlets to shout, swear and be his 18-year old self in, since he steers very clear of any profanity in his music (unlike most other artists of his age). But in the future, we bet he will choose a location void of any children – or at the very least those accompanied by protective and vocal mothers!

Considering the state of the music industry, a platinum plaque is now a rare and more meaningful feat than ever before. For evidence, look no further than the fact that One Direction’s hit album Up All Night just became the first album released in 2012 to surpass one million in record sales, according to Yahoo Music.

Lionel Richie’s Tuskegee isn’t too far behind with 951K copies sold. Justin Bieber’s Believe and Carrie Underwood's Blown Away trail 1D and Richie with sales of 649K and 644K, respectively.

The days of selling a million albums in a week seem to be over. Sure, Lady Gaga did it last year, but a substantial part of her sales came from a 99 cent offer on Amazon that forced Billboard and Soundscan to readjust the rules for charting albums. Full-length releases priced below $3.49 no longer count.

In other One Direction news, the boys have a live DVD that’s not doing too shabby in sales either. “Up all Night: The Live Tour” has held the number one spot eight weeks in a row on Billboard’s Top Music Videos chart with 223k copies sold.

On December 3, One Direction will have one of the biggest concerts of their career when they perform at New York’s iconic Madison Square Garden – a performance that sold out in under an hour. Clearly, demand is quite high for the overseas boy band as they have already booked concert dates in the U.S. for summer 2013.

Justin Bieber

In a statement that should come as a surprise to no one: an 18-year-old pop star with nearly unlimited resources and a penchant for the word "swag" makes for a loud neighbor. At least according to "Hit & Run" co-stars Dax Shepard and Kristen Bell, who live near Justin Bieber.

The pair were on "The View" today promoting their new film, and told the ladies that since Bieber began renting a house behind theirs things have been a bit crazier than usual.

"The music and the parties and the paparazzi, I mean, it’s like living in Lebanon now," Shepard said (via People).

Not looking to rile up those suffering from Bieber Fever, Bell was more diplomatic, saying that while she couldn't be 100 percent sure that Justin was behind the uptick in volume in their neighb, there's definitely been a surge in noise since he set up shop.

"In his defense, I will say we don’t know the exact house the music is coming from," Bell told the ladies. "We just know since he moved in, the music has been blaring."

In other Bieber news, the Los Angeles City Attorney Office is set to file four misdemeanor charges – including following another vehicle too closely, reckless driving with the intent to capture pictures for commercial gain, reckless driving and failing to obey the lawful order of a peace officer – against paparazzo Paul Raef, who allegedly chased Bieber down Los Angeles' 101 freeway last month.

Kelly Clarkson

By James Dinh

Let’s face it, there’s a reason why Kelly Clarkson is our favorite "American Idol." In all honesty, the now-blonde (and looking better than ever) singer could probably sing the dictionary and make it sound good. The vocally talented Miss Independent even lets fans request songs she should perform during each of her summer concert tour dates.

During a concert Wednesday (July 25) in Concord, California, Clarkson channeled her inner Katy Perry and tackled her own version of "Wide Awake." As her band played a simple acoustic rendition of the pop mega-hit, the “Duets” judge was met with a roar of applause as she sung the tune’s opening line: “I’m wide awake.” Throwing in some delicate falsettos and signature riffs, Kelly scored a home run by stripping down the track while simultaneously adding even more emotion to the dreamy ballad.

Fan requests are a new tradition that Clarkson began on her solo tour earlier this year. Team KC can request which songs they'd like to see the pop star cover by tweeting the singer with their name, song title and the hashtag #KCrequests. Clarkson will remain busy for the rest of the summer as she’s scheduled to play Las Vegas on July 27 and work her way across the U.S. before heading down under to Australia and Europe later in the year.

What do you think? Did you enjoy Kelly’s take on “Wide Awake”? Sound off below.

deadmau5

By Zachary Swickey

EDM star Deadmau5 is the latest musical act to take the plunge with a new official clothing line. Created in partnership with Neff Headwear, the line launched yesterday (July 25), according to Billboard.

The colorful line will be dubbed the Neffmau5 collection and contains co-branded T-shirts, hats and hoodies. The new signature line is the first installment of a two-year collaboration between mau5 and Neff.

"I love the street and snowboard scene," Deadmau5 revealed in a release. "The people involved are the people I see at my shows, so it made sense to hook up with a cool company like Neff to work on a collaboration. Plus it was easy to put ears on the Neff face for an instantly legit logo, right?"

Founder and CEO of Neff Headwear, Shaun Neff, is just as stoked as Deadmau5 about the collab, saying, “We think Neffmau5 perfectly expressed the combined energy of our two brands and we hope a new army of new consumers will agree."

Deadmau5 joins a lengthy list of artists who have their own clothing lines, including Black Eyed Peas’ will.i.am, Gwen Stefani, Pharell, Jay-Z and Jessica Simpson.

The Neffmau5 collection is fresh in stores and will be available at a variety of retail and online outlets.

Danny Boyle

By Uptin Saiidi (@uptin)

More than an estimated one billion people will be watching tomorrow's Summer Olympic opening ceremony. While the planning has been over two years in the making, director Danny Boyle has been careful not to give away too much of what we can expect. This morning on "Today ," though, he sat down with an inquisitive Meredith Vieira and teased some of what we’ll see.

Setting The Bar

Meeting the expectations set by the opening ceremony at the 2008 Bejing Olympics was a difficult feat for the "Slumdog Millionaire" director, but he’s not letting the pressure get to him. “Beijing was beyond compare," he said. "It was on a scale that it's unimaginable, almost anywhere else in the world at the moment, so you go, ‘Fine, all hail Beijing, that’s the peak.’ We're very grateful to Beijing that it brought to an absolute climax the scale of these opening ceremonies."

When asked how he’d know if his ceremony was a success, it didn’t seem to be an issue on his mind. “I believe it’s a success already because I believe the way it's mobilized people together in a tough time in Brittan and Europe and the world."

Logistics

The show will open with a 27-ton bell being rung (and most likely used at the closing ceremony as well). There are also over 10,000 volunteers participating tomorrow night, whom Danny calls the "real stars of the show."

Inspiration

The inspiration behind the show is from a line in Shakespeare’s “The Tempest,” which goes, "Be not afraid, the isle is full of noises.” And the film director isn’t approaching this production as anything other than that. "We're trying to do a live film. It’s tough. The way you'll experience it on television will feel a whole lot more immediate and visceral."

He also said that the setting will be based on a model of a meadow, which plays a key role in the overall setting and experience.

Music

We know Paul McCartney is confirmed to be perform, but details beyond that are minimal, aside from the fact that music is a highly important part of Boyle’s vision. "Something that's very important in our culture is music," he said. "Our history of music for such a small place, really pop music is extraordinary, one of the examples is the Beatles."

Influence of Literature

Boyle recognizes there’s a “very close connection between some of the great writers of children's literature who have been immortalized by Disney (Cruella de Vil, Captain Hook, Alice In Wonderland, Queen of Hearts), but actually, they originate in British literature, and the most famous of that is Peter Pan.”

Vieira asked, “Am I going to see Peter Pan?”

"Yes,” he laughed. “I mean, if they work.

Beyonce

By Zachary Swickey

Beyonce has been busy this year. She welcomed baby Blue Ivy in January and returned to performing in late-May with a series of concerts at the Revel Resort in Atlantic City, but a new, mysterious post on her website has many fans curious if she's preparing to release new music.

"Leave your footprint on 19 August 2012," the brief message states.

The countdown is sure to be a worthwhile announcement of some sort. The possibility of new music is not out of the question. Beyonce has reportedly already started work on her upcoming fifth studio album with OneRepublc singer Ryan Tedder, who revealed he was heading into the studio with Bey to work on new material earlier this year.

The announcement that something is coming arrives, coincidentally, at the same time as an anecdote from British pop singer Conor Maynard, who told the BBC that Queen Bey is going to great lengths in the studio to prevent songs from leaking – which happened with her last album, 4, which leaked in full three weeks ahead of its release last year.

Bey’s team is apparently keen to make sure it doesn’t happen again.

“I've heard some mad stories. With Beyonce, I heard that with her people they'll make sure that there's no-one in the studio," Maynard says. "They go into the studio, wipe it, set up one new session for her to record. Once she's finished recording they move it onto a hard drive. They wipe the studio computer again and then leave."

Little Monsters wanting to see Lady Gaga take to the silver screen sometime soon may be in luck. That’s right, Gaga recently tweeted an on-the-nose request to Disney after some fan art inspired the pop star. The buzz comes just as Mitch Winehouse gave his blessing (well, kind of) to a biopic of his late daughter, Amy Winehouse, starring the "Born This Way" singer … for a price.

With her new littlemonsters.com in full swing, Gaga posted a fan-made picture (below) that shows her as a Disney-esque cartoon character. "This is my favorite thing in life. Just putting it out there Disney can we make this happen?" she tweeted.

Gaga has also reportedly expressed interest in playing Amy Winehouse in a biopic, should one ever be made, and now, in an interview with the Daily Star, Mitch Winehouse has weighed in, saying that while he thinks a British actress might be better suited to the role, Gaga has the right look, and he'd consider a biopic for the right price. “If Gaga gives me £10m I will consider it," Winehouse said. "I think it might be advisable to get an English actress, although Gaga has got the look about her. It is something which we might think about."

Muse

By Zachary Swickey

When we got our first taste of Muse’s upcoming sixth studio album, The 2nd Law, we were surprised by the inclusion of dubstep. Now, for those curious how that came about, look no further than the dubstep king Skrillex.

The British rockers have revealed that the album’s first single “Unsustainable” was written promptly after seeing a Skrillex show.

''We went to see Skrillex in Camden around October. We went, 'F**k, it's so heavy', loved it,” drummer Dominic Howard told NME. ''It was like a full metal gig, they had the circles of death, people were moshing, I hadn't seen a reaction like that to electronic music before. We took inspiration and came up with 'Unsustainable.'"

Singer Matt Bellamy was equally enthusiastic about what he witnessed, saying, ''The mosh pit has moved from guitars and gone towards the laptop, so with that song we're trying to see if we can challenge the laptop.”

''We created something that was dubsteppy but we wanted to see if we could do it with real instruments," Bellamy continued. "We wanted to ask, 'Can rock bands compete with what these guys are doing?’”

Global crises also provided inspiration for Muse’s newest album with the band taking their sound to soaring heights on tracks like “Supremacy” and their official Olympic-endorsed track “Survival.”

''Every time I watched the news when we were making the album, it was endless stuff about the Euro banking crisis," Bellamy explained. "All the news programs seemed to be obsessed with growth. The album is my own internal conflict of celebrating the strength but also saying, 'F**k, where do we go from here?'''

The 2nd Law hits stores worldwide September 17.
