It's MTV's second annual Musical March Madness! MTV News took the 64 biggest names in rock, split them up into four regions, assigned them seeds and puts them up against one another in a single-elimination series of match-ups in a winner-take-all contest. We're leaving it to you to decide an actual champ in this field of 64, so over the next few weeks, fan voting will determine who will emerge as this year's champion. It's all about the fans, and the artist with the most passionate fan base will score the awesome Musical March Madness trophy!

The voting continues in the West bracket, with 30 Seconds to Mars jumping out to an early lead over Yellowcard and Pearl Jam and Train trading blows in a tight early race. There are two more match-ups below between some real heavy hitters, which should keep the action hot.

As always, first round voting continues through Sunday night (March 20), and you can catch up with any match-ups you might have missed here.

(5) Panic! at the Disco vs. (12) Avril Lavigne
Panic! at the Disco have climbed back to the upper echelons of the rock world with their hotly-anticipated new album Vices & Virtues. The group's third release already has one hit single in "The Ballad of Mona Lisa," with more to come when the album finally hits the streets on March 22. They square off against a feisty Avril Lavigne, who is back on the scene with an excellent new album Goodbye Lullaby. Will the chart dominance of "What the Hell" be enough to topple the Panic boys? Only you can decide!

(4) Florence and the Machine vs. (13) Brandon Flowers
Florence & the Machine have climbed up the rock ladder thanks to a number of high profile TV performances and the greatness of "Dog Days Are Over." Meanwhile, Brandon Flowers put out one of the most underrated albums of 2010 in Flamingo and is primed for another run to the top of the rock world. Who will emerge victorious? Your votes will decide it!

Back when people still used to get their music from plastic discs you had to purchase in a store, the onset of the fall would always mean a series of "Super Tuesdays," which would typically see handfuls of high-profile albums drop on the same day. In the push toward selling music around the holidays, fall was always reserved for the most high-profile records, and each Tuesday brought a new pack of headline grabbers. Consider this: There was a Tuesday in November of 1999 that saw the release of Mariah Carey's Rainbow, Rage Against the Machine's The Battle of Los Angeles, Foo Fighters' There's Nothing Left to Lose and Lil Wayne's Tha Block is Hot (which was a bigger deal in retrospect, but still). A week later it was new albums from Faith Hill, Alanis Morissette, Prince and Fiona Apple. They were always a big deal, and at the height of the "TRL" era, it made for great radio and compelling television.

But with the rise of digital sales, release days mean a bit less nowadays. But that all changes today, as a number of high profile bands are dropping big albums today. There's something for everybody, so have a happy Super Tuesday with the following releases.

Linkin Park
Their much-anticipated new album is probably the biggest album of the week in A Thousand Suns. The group is coming off good buzz behind their first single and video "The Catalyst" and delivered an impressive performance of the song at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards this past Sunday.

Weezer
The iconic alt-rock band's eighth album Hurley represents their first on punk-minded indie label Epitaph. The first single, "Memories," is a throwback to the group's early days and features a great video featuring the cast of "Jackass."

Trey Songz
The R&B crooner's new album Passion, Pain and Pleasure contains some of the sexiest tunes this side of R. Kelly, including the funky banger "Bottoms Up."

Brandon Flowers
The singer from the Killers ventures out on his own for the first time today with Flamingo, which is a clear extension of his work with his primary band (hence the excellently glammy first single "Crossfire").

Brandon FlowersAs far as I can tell, there have been two water-cooler topics (meaning, of course, the virtual water cooler that is the blog world) surrounding the Killers as they have gradually made their way back into the limelight in advance of the November release of their third album, Day & Age. Last Friday night, in the 15 minutes-plus we got with half the band in a noisy loading-dock hallway backstage at New York's Hammerstein Ballroom, I managed to — sort of — bring up both of them with Brandon Flowers, the band's stylish, affable and sometimes-inscrutable frontman. If you think his lyrics are hard to decipher, try getting him to elaborate on something he'd seemingly rather not discuss.
