Every day a multitude of stars wander through the halls of MTV News to talk about their latest projects and goof around with our intrepid correspondents. But sometimes we catch stars elsewhere, and that's why we put together Spotted!, a daily compendium of stars in the wild.

Dave Matthews continues to make a name for himself as the leader of one of the most popular touring bands in the universe, but in the past few years he has spread his wings a bit as an actor. His roots go deep, as he worked a lot on stage before his band took off, and his film work continues to grow and evolve. Though some of his roles have been gimmicky, his roles in the film "Because of Winn-Dixie" and on the television show "House" were both complex and convincing. But a bunch of his credits come from Adam Sandler comedies (he has been in both "I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry" and "You Don't Mess With the Zohan"), and Matthews appears in the forthcoming "Just Go With It" (which opens on Friday, February 11). The film had its New York premiere on a chilly red carpet on Tuesday night (February 8th), where Matthews chatted alongside fellow co-stars Sandler, Jennifer Aniston, Brooklyn Decker and Nicole Kidman (who plays Matthews' wife). In the meantime, the Dave Matthews Band is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year and though they won't be touring, they will be hosting a series of events over the summer to commemorate the occasion.

Matthews wasn't the only star in the field, as "Glee" star Chris Coolfer paid a visit to "The Late Show With David Letterman" in New York, while Janet Jackson hit the stage in Jakarta, Indonesia. Click here for these photos as well as the entire "Spotted" archive, which features over 500 candid shots of stars like Britney Spears, Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, Eminem, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Jay-Z, the Jonas Brothers, Mariah Carey and Kanye West!

It's MTV's World Cup of Rock! The World Cup is the greatest sporting event on the planet, a super-sized stage where legends are born with every strike of the ball, where infamy is just a moment away and where the dreams of millions live or die by the minute. That's why, in the spirit of the 2010 MTV Musical March Madness competition, we've created "The World Cup (Of Rock)," a FIFA-style tournament that takes 16 of the biggest nations — rock-wise (sorry Algeria) — and pits them against one another to determine just which is the most rockingly awesome. Heavyweights like the U.S.A., England, France and Germany are all here, but so are a handful of surprisingly strong sleeper countries. As the Cup progresses, we'll be unveiling the match-ups, and it's up to you to vote your favorites through. In the end, only one nation will be left standing: the world champion of rock.

The weekend saw some tremendous first round action in the 2010 FIFA World Cup, including a dominant performance by the German team against Australia and a nail-biting draw between the United States and England. Today's World Cup of Rock match-up pits England against host nation South Africa (whose squad also played to a draw in the opening game of the tournament last week). As far as the World Cup of Rock goes, England would have to be considered an overwhelming favorite based on volume alone. They've got some of the biggest names in music at the moment, including Coldplay, Radiohead and Muse, all of whom can (and often do) fill stadiums. On the other side of the pitch, South Africa is captained by Dave Matthews (who was born there) and backed by the likes of R&B auteur Manfred Mann and high-strung rap act Die Antwoord. Can South Africa overcome the stacked roster of England? It's up to you!

· First he brushed the dirt off his shoulder in homage to Jigga. Now presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama has given a shout-out to Weezy at a town-hall meeting in Powder Springs, Georgia. Obama delivered a speech about high school dropout rates and told teens that they were better off staying in school than wishing for NBA or hip-hop glory. "You are probably not that good a rapper. Maybe you are the next Lil Wayne, but probably not, in which case you need to stay in school," he said.

· It will probably take another month for Michigan authorities to determine what caused the deaths of a 33-year-old woman and a 28-year-old man at last weekend's inaugural Rothbury Festival, which featured sets from Snoop Dogg, Dave Matthews and John Mayer. Initial autopsies showed no sign of foul play.

· The Smashing Pumpkins are celebrating their upcoming 20th anniversary by playing a series of mostly smaller venues in August, with the promise of "unique sets and songs." The only date announced so far is an August 9 gig in Hammond, Indiana. In November, the band will play anniversary shows in New York, Los Angeles and their hometown of Chicago.

· Ludacris has reportedly signed a multimillion-dollar deal with AT&T to be their spokesperson and appear in commercials beginning next month. Somewhere, Bill O'Reilly is changing phone companies.

· The Grammys are celebrating their 50th anniversary with a tour. So, what does a tour put on by the people who give you Brad Paisley and Kanye West in the same show look like? How about a five-city swing with sets from John Legend, nine-time Grammy nominee (nine time, really?) Busta Rhymes, Cat Power, Colbie Caillat, Kat Deluna, Kid Rock, Missy Elliott, Ozomatli, Pitbull, Seal and Sean Kingston. We're told not all artists will be playing all shows.

· Dave Matthews will play an acoustic show on April 6 at Indiana University in Bloomington, IN in support of Barack Obama. Matthews will be playing with his longtime collaborator, Tim Reynolds. The concert is open to all Indiana residents, or those going to school in the state. For our Hoosier friends, go here for more info.

· Also, another reason to pour one out, this time for one of the original members of the breakdancing group, the Rock Steady Crew, Frosty Freeze (born Wayne Frost), who passed away this morning (April 3) in New York. Frosty Freeze invented the "suicide" move, and starred in such classic hip-hop films as "Style Wars" and "Wild Style," as well as "Flashdance." Photos of his moves can be found here.

· Up until now, the only thing Prince and Dave Matthews have had in common is their mutual affinity for busting out the "guitar face" when soloing. But the jam king is borrowing a page from his purple majesty’s playbook and bundling vouchers for a free downloadable iTunes live-albums with every ticket purchase to his band’s upcoming summer tour. The live albums will be compilations of the best performances from the summer gigs, and will be available in September, but only if you get your tix at a venue serviced by Ticketmaster.
