For trance legends Above & Beyond, inspiration can come in many places — perhaps from a memorable gig in a tropical corner of the planet, or from a loyal fan they've met along the way. However, in the case of their new video for "On a Good Day (Metropolis)," it was a story printed in a British news publication that drew their attention to the amazing Urban Community Farms Projects popping up in the Detroit — including the Georgia Street Community Gardens, which also served as the setting for the new clip.

"There's been a revolution of food in so many ways," said Tony McGuinness, one third of the trance music collective of Motor City's new commitment to sustainability. "We became aware of the Detroit Urban Farms project from Paul Harris' article in The Guardian and I found it extraordinary."

A short time later, McGuinness met with group members Jono Grant and Paavo Siljamaki and video director Steve Glashier to discuss what they hoped to accomplish both visually and philanthropically.

“We thought, 'Why don't we help them convert one of these city blocks that they are doing on their own steam any way?'" McGuinness told MTV News. "It truly is an example of what the song is about — which is triumph over adversity. Things may be tough, but if you are strong as the words say, you can overcome."

Fueled by the formally robust automotive industry, Detroit was once a definitive American metropolis. The flight of the auto industry combined with growing economic hardships have split the population in half (from two million to one million) and driven the unemployment rate up to 50 percent. But folks like Mark Covington, who spearheads the Georgia Street Community Garden featured in the video, is one of the many people in the city who refuse to say die and have quite literally sewn seeds of new life on the vacant lots that blot the city. In addition to drumming up support and awareness via the video, Above & Beyond will also be headlining a benefit concert in the spring, with all proceeds going to the Georgia Street Community Garden.

"The amazing thing is what this teaches you about where we're at in the modern world. It's such a surprising little episode," McGuinness said. "If we only made one music video and this was it, we could retire happy. It's a perfect match lyrically, and most importantly it draws people attention to something that's happening in the world that we may be unaware of. When people do learn about what's happening there it really changes your world."

Holiday radio festival season is in full effect, and not only does it give the opportunity for some of the most popular music artists to make the rounds during the holiday season, but it also gives them a chance to connect with each other. At the KDWB Jingle Ball in St. Paul, Minnesota, Justin Bieber and Jordin Sparks shared the bill and also spent some quality time backstage. They even snapped a picture together. "Look at our prom pic?" Bieber wrote to Sparks on his Twitter page. "Great show."

Bieber had a busy weekend. At another concert in Detroit — which also featured sets from Jay Sean, Owl City, Boys Like Girls, Colbie Caillat, Pitbull and 3OH!3 — the 15-year-old Canadian singer (whose debut album My World is currently tearing up the charts) paused in between songs to bust out the opening verse from Eminem's "Lose Yourself." Bieber gave Slim Shady the nod because they were in Detroit. "Had to pay respect to that guy from '8 Mile,'" Bieber tweeted. "Eminem is a beast."

There is video of the song here. Bieber acquits himself on the song pretty well (apparently Asher Roth wasn't lying when he said Bieber possessed MC skills). What's interesting about the footage is that Bieber seems to be moving pretty well on stage despite the fact that his right leg remains in an air cast because of his fractured foot, an injury he sustained during a show in London a few weeks ago. The foot hasn't stopped him from doing shows, though it has gotten in the way of extracurricular activities. He tweeted to mentor Usher earlier today, "I'd play ball with you but I have a disadvantage with my broken foot." No hoops for Bieber, but still plenty of cheers.

For Eminem fans, the four-year wait since the Detroit MC released his last studio album, Encore, has been painful. But according to Dr. Dre's latest protégé, Bishop Lamont, the end of the drought could be right around the corner. "Em is excited," Lamont said, according to an Entertainment Weekly blog report. "He's been quiet too long, and he's got a lot to get off his chest."

No release date has been set yet for the album, but Em's label confirmed that he's in the studio at work on the album. The 35-year-old MC has been on hiatus for the past two-plus years, in part to deal with his emotions about the 2006 death of best friend and fellow D12 member Proof in a bar shooting in Detroit, but Lamont said Slim Shady is emerging from his grief. "He went through what he had to go through, and now he's been able to take all the pain and stress and put it out in his music."

Has Slim Shady waited too long to return, or are you still excited for his comeback? Tell us what you think!
