Ladies and gentlemen, we have pop cultural situation that needs to be addressed! Britney Spears is addicted to short sleeve turtlenecks and it's time for an intervention.

Here in the MTV Newsroom, we're a bunch of Britney stans; we organize entire birthday-related tournaments in her honor, contact experts to tell us about her boyfriend's abs and gave her latest album nothing but love. But even we have limits and a line in the sand has to be drawn somewhere and we're pretty sure we've figured out where that threshold is.

We first noticed Britney's interest in keeping it wintery up top and summery on her stems when she posted a picture of her engagement ring to Twitter earlier this month. One of our colleagues pointed out that Spears "always wears short sleeve turtlenecks" and we were baffled; we'd never noticed that it was a thing she was known for. That stuck with us though, and in just about every picture of the Femme Fatale diva to surface since, we've noticed she is sporting one.

It's not that she looks bad or anything … but, you know, it's maybe not the most fashionable choice for one of the biggest pop stars in the world to be sporting in her off time. Just sayin'!

Fashion Week kicks off today in New York City and we are excited. We're not big fashionistas or anything – we are currently rocking the stylings of the Gap and H&M … jealous? – but we love seeing people decked out in their craziest couture hitting the streets of NYC to check out shows by the biggest names in the fashion game.

Fashion Week also reminds us to show a little love to our fave sartorial superstars. Music's biggest and boldest are always setting the trends in the fashion world, so we decided to give our favorite trendsetters a shout out on this holiest of holy weeks.

Lady Gaga – Who needs pants?
Mother Monster has had a massive influence on fashion – so much so that her stylist/fashion director Nicola Formichetti has himself become a huge name in the clothes game. Formichetti is the creative director for French fashion house Mugler and is opening a pop up shop in NYC's Soho neighborhood where he will sell limited-edition pieces from Mugler, Uniqlo and Haus of Gaga. But Gaga's most obvious contribution to the fashion game can be seen in the abundance of leg that has overtaken America. While donning a leotard for work probably violates most people's office dress codes, the pop star's propensity for going pantless made short shorts a must have for ladies (and many urban gentlemen) this summer. With cooler weather approaching, we're thinking the trend will fade out soon … and probably be replaced with the bare-faced thing she's been rocking lately.

Adele – The return of the little black dress
From her soaring voice to her 60s-inspired, ginger biscuit-colored locks, everything about Adele is classic – right down to her preference for rocking simple black dresses like the one she wore to perform her latest No. 1 hit, "Someone Like You," at the VMAs (check it out above). Some may complain that she doesn't change it up enough, but we say phooey to all that. What's the number one rule in fashion? Stick to what works. And when it comes to Adele, the classic black dress works like gangbusters.

If you loved the diamond-encrusted accessories Lady Gaga wore in her "Judas" video, but are having a difficult time justifying the purchase of such lavish accoutrements (we live in austere times, after all), well, now you're in luck: Marianna Harutunian, the designer behind the "Judas" pieces, has just announced plans to re-create duplicates of her work ... and she's making them available to all the little monsters out there.

"For all of you true Gaga fans, I am making duplicates of all the pieces used in the 'Judas' video — Her Crown, His Crown, and her Cuff — own a part of music history," Harutunian wrote on her Facebook page. "And for the true hardcore fans out there, You can own the originals too."

Elsewhere, some enterprising Gaga fans have even posted photos of the jewelry (diamond-laden crucifix necklaces, winged bracelets, etc), and while there's no word on just how much the duplicate pieces — or the originals — cost (Harutunian asked that you message her for prices), but obviously, we think she's on to something big here. Which is why, without her even asking, we've decided to come up with a list of other "Judas"-centric pieces she can re-create. Because, really, every monster deserves to own a piece of their idol. Oh, and Marianna, if you happen to read this, our crown size is 7 and 3/8 ...

» An actual Jesus piece.

» One of the motorcycles the disciples ride ... only, you know, one you can wear around your neck.

» A giant blinking "SYMBOLISM" necklace.

» A replica of Gaga's lipstick gun, only one that shoots bullets (note: may have trouble shipping.)

» A bedazzled footwashing cistern.

» A dangly crucifix earring, like Nick from "Family Ties" used to wear.

» Gaga's gilded sense of self.

Who better to create a "lifestyle" Web site than Mr. White Louis Boat Shoes, Jay-Z? Dubbed Life+Times, the intriguing new site covers all the dinner-party topics: art, technology, music, sports, and even leisure. Shoot, Jigga even has his own section, the aptly-named "Jay’s," which currently displays a pic of an epic sunset with the title "Peace GOD" emblazoned above. It is strangely Zen. And over in the "About" section, Jay lays out his mission statement for the site: "I want to make the extraordinary, ordinary."

But it’s not all about Jay — far it, from actually. A YouTube clip of UConn’s Kemba Walker’s game-winning moment over Villanova and an article detailing the importance of the "floater" shot can be found in the "Sports" section. Meanwhile, "Art+Design" shows you how to shave like a baller, featuring kits ranging in prices from $800 to $1,600. And if you’ve been looking for the latest info on the new Rolls Royce Ghost, you’re covered: just click on "Technology," to learn more about it (for example, its starting price is a meager $245,000!)

Life + Times also features content like Q&As with French fashion bloggers, profiles on celebrity chefs, and features on Parisian beatmakers. And while the whole thing is very impressive, we can't help thinking that the site could be so much more. So, with all due respect to Jay, here are 10 certifiably HOV articles we'd like to see featured in the coming weeks.

» "Empire State of Mind: The 10 Hottest Spots in NYC"

» "Young Forever: Anti-Aging Secrets of the Stars!"

» "H.A.M.: How To Prepare a Sumptuous Hamsteak While Totally Losing Your S---."

» "Hard Knock Life: The Newest Spa Treatment Crazes"

» "Run This Town: Marathoning Made Easy."

Through reports of varying degrees of reliability, news broke Tuesday that Kanye West is collaborating with a Parisian design firm on a series of ultra-limited edition scarves, "inspired by his 2010 album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy."

Now, whether or not said news is actually true is merely an afterthought ... after all, this is Kanye West. Designing scarves. Truth is secondary. And while it's not exactly West's first foray into the world of fashion — he's previously interned at Fendi and has designed footwear for Luis Vuitton and Nike — needless to say, we're still pretty pumped to pick up one of the accouterments (which will only be available from the Colette boutique in Paris or via MMParis.com).

But since the scarves are so limited — just 250 will be made — we're not sure we'll be able to snag one ourselves. Which is why we've decided to come up with a list of other possible Dark Twisted Fantasy-themed accessories West could also design, because, really, everyone deserves a little piece of Yeezy.

» Fire-retardant Phoenix legwarmers.

» Fat-booty Celine Dion Spanx.

» Something f---ing ridiculous, like a hat that's also a radio or something.

» "Ghetto University" letterman jackets.

» Gil Scott-Heron signature edition Nike Dunks.

» "Maliboo-ya!" insulated Thermos set.

» That watch Twista had on in The Source.

» Knock-off Nicki Minaj London Fog trench coats, to go with her accent.

» Official Justin Vernon beard-and-flannel dress-up kit.

» Actual p---y sarcophagi.

"I think costumes are just a natural extension. I don't think you can just have the costumes and not have anything else. The costumes are the bells and whistles and bells and whistles can be really fun, but you have to have the spine, and I think that with Gaga, she's got the spine and she's got the costume. So, it can coexist. With me, I have the spine and I have the costumes, so we can coexist. Some people that are just like, 'Look at me, I have something on my face or head' — I don't want to be specific because I don't even know what I'm trying to say — they're just not following through. I like all that theatrical stuff, but at the end of the day, I like to strip it all off and sit down with my guitar and write a song."

-Chart-topping pop star Katy Perry, explaining her philosophy when it comes to envelope-pushing fashion in the pop music world. Perry with MTV News in the aftermath of her visit to the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards, where people like Lady Gaga, Ke$ha, Rihanna and herself lit up the white carpet with boundary-busting fashion statements.

That was especially true of Lady Gaga, who was a particular favorite of Perry's. "I think her outfits are very Lady Gaga. It's like so over-the-top," she said. "I thought the Alexander McQueen outfit was stunning. I was like, 'Oh my god!' I love all that kind of symbolism that she had on her dress, and she made a statement with all the people next to her. I like the statement she made."

Memphis based band Free Sol got their lucky break when fellow Tennessee native Justin Timberlake heard their music and decided to sign them to his Tennman Records label. Frontman Free Sol admits that being in the studio working on the group's forthcoming debut album with the pop superstar has taught him quite a lot.

"Yes [we were in the studio with Justin] several times. It's like school," Free Sol told MTV News about working with Timberlake in the studio. "He's a genius. A lot of people think that dude from *NSYNC, but really he's like ... He's a baby Quincy [Jones], you know what I mean? So we learn a lot."

Free Sol revealed that in a few weeks, the band and Justin have a very daunting process that lies ahead of them before they release an album (which they hope to have out by the summer). "In March, we're going in with Justin. We did about 108 songs," he explained. "We did 108 songs and we're gonna pick 12."

With the band performing at Justin's William Rast show on Wednesday night (February 17) during New York Fashion Week, it was their chance to show the fashionista set what they were made of. "I would wish for [our music to sound like] the Black Eyed Peas meets Outkast," he explained. "What we do, we took the pop and the rock and the hip-hop and we do a little dirty. We keep it Southern, but yet we still keep it melodic."

So was he nervous to be the soundtrack for his boss' fashion show? "Really, it's not nerve-racking," he said. "He's so down to earth. He's so cool and if you do get nervous, he'll come over to you and be like 'shake that off,' so it's real cool, real lax, real simple."

This morning, the fashion world was stunned when the news came down that forward-thinking fashion designer Alexander McQueen had died. His passing robs the fashion and design world of one of its finest and most daring minds. McQueen was 40 years old.

Over his career, McQueen has gained quite a bit of attention for his collaborations with music artists (most recently with Lady Gaga, for whom he provided some of the otherworldly clothes for the "Bad Romance" video). One of his most notable came back in 1997, when McQueen designed the album cover for Björk's game-changing Homogenic. The album was Björk's first attempt to bridge the world of electronic music with more organic elements (including orchestral score and unusual applications of the human voice, both of which figure prominently on Homogenic's hit singles "Joga" and "Bachelorette"), and she approached McQueen to try to capture the album's icy, otherworldly cool in a cover image.

"When I went to Alexander McQueen, I explained to him the person who wrote these songs — someone who was put into an impossible situation, so impossible that she had to become a warrior," Björk told the Chicago Sun-Times in 1998. "A warrior who had to fight not with weapons, but with love." Though the cover appears to be a straight illustration, Björk actually posed for the image. "I had 10 kilos of hair on my head, and special contact lenses and a manicure that prevented me from eating with my fingers, and gaffer tape around my waist and high clogs so I couldn't walk easily," she said. "I wanted to put all the emotion of the album into that image."

The cover wasn't McQueen's only contribution to Homogenic, as he also directed the video for "Alarm Call" (one of the later singles from the record). The clip finds Björk on a raft in the middle of a swamp, singing and communing with various creatures (including a giant snake and a crocodile). It's a fantastically loopy video that perfectly matches the song's tone and Björk's approach. Check out a clip below.

Lady Gaga. At this point she's a sentence unto herself, and it's impossible to try to figure what she will wear to any awards show, on any given red carpet or stage. She has truly done it all. She's been Victorian. She's dressed like the Queen of Hearts. She's worn Muppets. She's sort of lit herself on fire. She's (fake) bled to death. She's not worn pants.

So, when the Grammy Awards kicked off on Sunday night the big question was: What will Gaga do?

Well, the night started with an intergalactic silver dress. Gaga had her own orbit. The dress, rumored to be by Giorgio Armani, was fashioned to look like a planet and even included it's own star-like accessory. She completed the look with very high platform heels and yellow hair.

Gaga embraced her basic aesthetic when she hit the stage to kick off the show with a awe-inspiring, theatrical reinterpretations of her songs "Poker Face" and "Speechless." Gaga wore a teal green, bedazzled leotard with intense shoulders. Her matching green booties completed the look along with pink sequins around her eyes. When Gaga reemerged during her performance, not only did she bring out Elton John (in bedazzled glasses and planetary earring), she was also covered in soot.

Sitting in the audience later on in the night, it looked as it Lady Gaga was paying homage to her hometown of NYC wearing a Statue of Liberty-esque headpiece and yet another sparkly outfit.

Ultimately, her entrance remained one of the top stories of the night, and though she didn't win any prizes during the show, she opened the show with a jaw-dropping performance.

7:58 And with that, we are wrapped up. Who looked great and who didn't? Leave your thoughts in the comments and enjoy the show!

7:52 Rihanna has just arrived and very quickly we caught a glimpse of her high-cut white gown. It appeared to have feathers!

7:50 Ne-Yo still dressed like a gentleman: Black suit with silver lapel, fedora and a white tie.

7:47 Ryan Seacrest just told us that Britney Spears is there! But what is she wearing? It's apparently top-secret. Ms. Spears, why are you such a tease with your backdoor entrances?

7:44 Ciara looks kind of like a rock and roll Elvira in her Givenchy jumpsuit. There's a lot going on there.

7:40 Ke$ha is looking anything but Ke$ha-like. She's looking fresh and hip in her sparkly flapper dress and big dangly earrings. Also, she's wearing feathers in her hair. Deal with it.

7:38 For some reason, Slash is wearing a fedora and not a top hat. Way to disappoint!

7:33 Beyoncé rolls up in a nude-colored zip-front gown with bizarre and interesting geometric pattern detailing. It's tight and works for her. She is wearing no sparkles — this is history making!
