All this week, MTV News will be going through the nominees for this year's official summer jam. You'll be able to vote all week on the official 2010 summer song poll for one of our five nominees, which include Usher's "OMG," Katy Perry's "California Gurls," B.o.B's "Airplanes," 3OH!3's "First Kiss" and Lady Gaga's "Alejandro." You can also endorse your own pick for the official 2010 summer song on our poll.

In addition to the new songs, we're going to take a look back at some classic summer songs from the past 10 years. Today's flashback takes us to 2006 and 2007, when that terrible "Superman" movie came out, Spin magazine got kind of weird, the final "Harry Potter" book came out and Live Earth happened.

2006: Like 2005, 2006 absolutely ruled as far as summer jams go. Nelly Furtado reinvented herself as a sexy R&B vixen with the Timbaland-produced "Promiscuous," Yung Joc delivered the incredibly dopey (but still phenomenally sticky) "It's Goin' Down," Chamillionaire made his debut with "Ridin'" and Shakira teamed up with Wyclef for the delightfully wacky "Hips Don't Lie." But the official summer jam was Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy," a trippy collaboration between DJ Danger Mouse and Cee-Lo Green from Goodie Mob. It was catchy, breezy, just funky enough to dance to and never really got old even though it may have peaked a little early. Other Contenders: The Fray's "Over My Head (Cable Car)" (too sleepy); Beyoncé's "Check On It" (too associated with "The Pink Panther"); Justin Timberlake's "SexyBack" (didn't really peak until the end of the summer).

2007: For a while, it looked like it was going to be something of a raw summer, but then Rihanna dropped "Umbrella" and everything changed. As James Montgomery pointed out, it's sort of strange that a song about rain could become a huge summer jam, but that's the power of "Umbrella." There weren't really any other contenders. In 2007, it was Rihanna's world, and we were just getting rained on. Other Contenders: Lil Mama's "Lip Gloss" (too fresh and poppin'); Avril Lavigne's "Girlfriend" (too spastic and peaked too early); Shop Boyz' "Party Like a Rockstar" (not "Umbrella" enough).

What were your summer jams of 2006 and 2007? Let us know in the comments!

Gnarls Barkley
We started the third and final day of Lollapalooza with a toddler-friendly interview with Gnarls Barkley on the steps of the Kidzapalooza stage (in between sets from the Homemade Jamz Blues Band and the Jimmies, of course).

Cee-lo and Danger Mouse spoke about the mind-melting video for "Who's Gonna Save My Soul," and DM's upcoming projects (sorta ... "I've got stuff in the works, but nothing I wanna talk about," he mumbled), but what they really wanted to discuss was the set by they had just witnessed by the aforementioned Homemade Jamz.

In fact, they were so impressed that they brought 9-year-old drummer Taya Perry -- truly the finest mini kit-master in Tupelo, Mississippi -- onto the stage to take part in the interview. Because, after all, Gnarls loves the kids.

Kiedis

Chili Pepper Anthony Kiedis is set to curate a new summer fest in...Pittsburgh?

The two-day New American Music Union will give attention to 15 new college bands -- and other little-known acts such as the Raconteurs and Gnarls Barkley. The college acts taking part will also be judged (like "American Idol"!), with the winner given a full day of recording in a top LA studio for free. American Eagle, which is sponsoring the fest, will also promote the band's record in their stores.

Tickets go on sale tomorrow.

The lineup thus far -- including the college acts in competition -- after the jump. Read More...

· Danger Mouse isn’t the only one busy working on side gigs: Cee-Lo is hooking up with Jack Black to cover the 1974 classic “Kung Fu Fighting.”

· Tila Tequila doesn’t have a lot of secrets, but if there are any left, she might spill them in her upcoming self-help book, “Hooking Up With Tila Tequila.” That's right -- self-help.

We hate to say we told you so...but, well, we told you so (or rather, our sources told us so and we told you, but, you know...whatever).

On Monday, we got the exclusive scoop that Beck is planning on releasing a below-the-radar album sometime in the "next 4-6 weeks" -- one produced by Danger Mouse and featuring appearances from a handful of talent, including Cat Power. And while neither Beck's publicist nor his label would confirm the news, we felt confident in our sources and went with it anyway -- just like in "All the President's Men!"

The story got picked up by the likes of Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, and Perez Hilton, but it wasn't until today that we got the official word -- or, rather, official press release -- that Mr. Hansen would, in fact, be releasing an album.

"Beck has recorded a new album, produced with Brain 'Danger Mouse' Burton, to be released this summer," the release read. "The as-yet-untitled album contains 10 new songs,...a tightly assembled group...that range in lyrical tone from introspection and social commentary to off-the-cuff wordplay and lighthearted humor...Musically, the album's ten tracks vacillate between economy and experimentation, hybrid and pop classicism."

Which is all a very longwinded way of saying "MTV Was Right." Now never doubt us again.

Though neither his publicist nor his label would confirm any of it, MTV News has spoken to several individuals close to Beck, and they all tell us that he's gearing up to release a brand new album in the very near future -- think the next 4-6 weeks -- through the Universal Music Group.

And that's not all -- we've also heard that said album will be produced by Danger Mouse and feature collaborations with a host of artists, including Cat Power.

Our amazing sources also say that fans can expect an official announcement about the album veeerrrry soon.

In the meantime, Beck is busy lining up appearances at various European summer festivals, in addition to a handful of shows on the West Coast in late August.

Anyway, don't say we didn't warn you...

And, you know, to make life easier for the less-than-tech-savvy among ya, we've got a seriously easy how-to on how to reverse the download after the jump. Read More...

Yeah, we know what you're thinking: Shut up! No way. One of the most anticipated albums of '08 is just being given away like Scientology stress tests? Yes way. This is totally true. Except there's a catch...

I can't tell 100% as I sit at this computer, but it looks 98% true that the boys are giving away their new album, The Odd Couple, BACKWARDS.

One love, Cee-Lo & Danger Mouse! You kids is craaaaaazy!

Can anyone out there seriously REVERSE THIS THING?
