They are ready for Howard on this panel.

Buzz started late this week that Howard Stern was in negotiations to take over Piers Morgan's seat on 'America's Got Talent.' And this appears to be moving full steam ahead. The Wall Street Journal reports that a deal is being discussed where Mr. Stern would earn about $15 million a year to join Howie Mandel and Sharon Osbourne at the judges' table. There is even talk that NBC would move production of the show to New York to accommodate the self-proclaimed King of All Media.

'America's Got Talent' often brings in 14 million viewers a week, and I can assume that many of these devotees don't land in the standard Stern demographic. When they hear Stern may be coming to the show, they might recoil in horror with visions of a sex-crazed shock jock soiling their family-friendly show.

But as a devoted listener of Stern's for over 18 years, it's time to speak up. The hiring of Stern to replace Morgan could be a game-changing move. There is no one on the planet more qualified to join -- and stand out from -- the endless bench of talent TV judges and his hire would make a smash show even bigger.

Listen To More From Howard 100 News on the 'Talent' Rumors

Howard Stern = Music: Many Stern detractors claim he has no place on a talent show because he has no connection to music. They ask why anyone would listen to a shock jock's opinion on matters he knows nothing about. What they forget is that Howard Stern and music are synonymous.

Remember that before Stern ever appeared as Fartman on our own VMA Awards, he spent years forging a career through the back channels of rock and roll radio when radio actually meant something. Howard was a true tastemaker, slaving away on rock stations such as WRNW in New York, WCCC in Connecticut and WWWW in Detroit in the days when DJs were true influencers, making artists surge on the charts before there was any such thing as iTunes or YouTube.

Stern created his own style, breaking away from the strict formats of radio that demanded traffic and weather and news had to be delivered at certain moments. And while his searing social commentary and his chatter with guests and his own staff became the backbone of his show in the '80s through today, Stern never lost that intimate connection with music.

It still fuels the Stern show. Anyone listening daily knows that the show kicks off with replays of musical performances or that everything from current rock to recent pop tunes are played as bumpers going in and out of commercials. A sizable chunk of Stern's best guests over the years have included musical artists from every genre, from Paul McCartney to Stevie Wonder to Katy Perry to Jay-Z to Coldplay's Chris Martin just this week. Batten down the hatches … if you thought Piers Morgan was a meanie you ain't seen nothin' yet!

Morgan could be a real prig on "America's Got Talent," which is kind his whole deal, so now that he's leaving the show to focus on his work at CNN, execs at NBC are looking for a fitting replacement and the Wall Street Journal reports they think they've found one in the form of shock jock Howard Stern.

That's right! Stern is reportedly in talks to become a judge on the talent competition and would earn a hefty $15 million a year to join Sharon Osbourne and Howie Mandel on the show.

Lady Gaga's support of sophomore effort "Born This Way" has been unprecedented. She's rolled out several singles, high profile videos and multiple high profile interviews (including our own amazing special "Inside the Outside"), all in the interest of rewarding her Little Monsters with more access while also expanding her fan base. But could it be that the most crucial 5 minutes for gaining new fans came sitting behind a piano solo in front of Howard Stern pounding out "The Edge of Glory"? My unofficial survey says "yes."

Since her appearance on the show July 17, I've spoken with various pockets of people across all demographics who would not consider themselves Lady Gaga fans. Upon hearing her naked version of "Edge of Glory," they have been left stunned and converted. All have said the same combination of things: "I had no idea she could sing like that." "She is the real deal." "Wow!" Read More...

Can you believe it's already March? One-sixth of 2011 is already gone, and in those two months there have already been some great moments on late night television (mostly thanks to David Letterman's embrace of the Sports Illustrated swimsuit models and Jimmy Fallon's insistence on booking Odd Future and Bel Biv Devoe in the span of a week). There will certainly be more on tap moving forward, starting with this week, which features a number of great actors and killer musical acts. You'll get some of everything on "The Tonight Show," including Matt Damon and musical guest Cake (Tuesday, March 1), Simon Cowell (Wednesday, March 2) and Jerry Seinfeld (Thursday, March 3). Over on "The Late Show With David Letterman," the host will sit down with "South Park" creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone (Monday, February 28th), "Red Riding Hood" star Amanda Seyfried (Tuesday), "The Celebrity Apprentice" host Donald Trump (Wednesday) and an incredible tag-team of Howard Stern and Naughty by Nature (Friday, March 4).

Jimmy Kimmel has another strong music week that will feature performances by Grammy winner Esperanza Spalding (Monday), Staind frontman Aaron Lewis (Tuesday) and Michael Franti (Thursday). Kimmel will also welcome Amanda Seyfried to the couch of "Jimmy Kimmel Live" on Wednesday. On "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon," the other Jimmy will be bringing in the likes of Topher Grace (Monday), Motörhead (Wednesday), Miley Cyrus (Thursday) and Lupe Fiasco (Friday). If that lineup doesn't prove that Fallon has the most adventurous booking style of any late night host, then what does?

However, Conan O'Brien could probably give Fallon a run for his money, as this week's episodes of "Conan" feature Marisa Tomei and Fitz & the Tantrums (Monday), Chelsea Handler and Mavis Staples (Wednesday) and Emily Blunt, Martha Stewart and Taio Cruz (Thursday). And it's probably worth your time to tune in to "The Daily Show" on Monday, as Jon Stewart will chat with Howard Stern in what should be an interesting, engaging conversation.

This week is just about over, which means it's time to decide what to do with your weekend. You'll probably be splitting time between taking care of holiday shopping and hiding from the cold, but you should really only be concerned about just how badly UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre is going to pound challenger Josh Koscheck inside the Octagon in Toronto on Saturday night (December 11). After a season of hyping up the conflict on "The Ultimate Fighter," both men are primed for a classic confrontation. In their first meeting, St-Pierre dominated Koscheck for three rounds and won a decision, but the French-Canadian known as "Rush" has gotten even better since then. Koscheck will put up a good fight, but St-Pierre might be the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world right now, and Koscheck won't be able to handle his skill set. The official prediction? St-Pierre by decision.

But before you satisfy your bloodlust this weekend, check out everything you might have missed this week on the MTV Newsroom Blog. There was big news from Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, T.I. and the entire list of the MTV News Top 25 Songs of 2010.

» Who had a better week than anybody? Probably Howard Stern, who signed a giant new contract worth an estimated $400 million. That gives Stern a few more years to be one of the best interviewers in all of media.

» T.I., on the other hand, had a more ambivalent week. Sure, he dropped his relatively well-received new album No Mercy, but he had to do it from the confines of a prison cell.

» The big "VH1 Divas Salute the Troops" show opened up the week, which featured Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj and the about-to-be-huge Grace Potter & the Nocturnals.

» Not only did Perry show up on the "Divas" show, but she also dropped in as the special guest on the Christmas episode of "The Simpsons."

» Justin Bieber has a few things in common with Pittsburgh Penguins phenom Sidney Crosby. They're both Canadian, they both enjoy hockey and they both now appear on trading cards.

Some people consider Howard Stern a guilty pleasure. I'm not one of them. I don't slink around listening to Stern's Sirius/XM radio show on headphones while stifling a snigger at the latest porn star to fake a titanic moment of ecstasy while riding his in-studio Sybian.

In my mind, Stern is one of the best (if not the best) interviewer and radio entertainer of his generation. Which is why I was so excited when he announced on Thursday (December 9) that he would be re-upping for another five years with Sirius/XM. I've been listening to Stern for years, well before he made the jump from terrestrial to satellite, but 30 years into his career I've been feeling lately that he's hitting an all-time stride.

And while many in the media wrote him off when he took his $500 million ball and went to the then (and let's face it, still) struggling Sirius satellite network five years ago amid claims that he was going to revolutionize radio, I've heard the proof. Stern on terrestrial radio was funny, edgy and often patently offensive. In an age before stars were sharing their every vapid thought on Twitter and Facebook, Stern was always an open book, believing in his mantra that anything worth saying or doing is worth saying or doing on the air. "Save it for the air!" he likes to say.

Though many casual fans lost track of him as he receded from the front pages following the switch, I dug in deeper, reveling in the insanely detailed year-end documentary series "The History of Howard Stern," marveling at the hubris of a man willing to toot his own horn so elaborately and seriously during his own lifetime.

Who does that? Nobody. And that's what makes Stern so great. Over the past year, David Letterman was caught in an intern scandal and Jay Leno's Machiavellian nature was laid bare once again in the Conan O'Brien coup. But what do we really know about the internal lives of these late night giants? Next to nothing. They expect their guests to share, but they are unwilling to provide any insight at all into what makes them tick.

Stern, however, literally shares everything, from his bathroom neuroses and secret sexual fantasies to his preferred lovemaking techniques, the lingering psychic scars from his life in an all-black neighborhood and everything in between. And that's just in one recent show.

Stern doesn't make the news he used to, but if you haven't been listening, you've missed some truly amazing radio. Read More...

It's not often that contract news makes for such hot headlines, but earlier this morning there were two big stories that both involved famous people signing gigantic contracts worth millions of dollars. Each one comes from a different branch of the entertainment genre (Howard Stern being a legendary radio DJ, while Carl Crawford is a hot baseball prospect), but the thing that brings them together is the massive number of dollars involved in each.

In the first instance, Stern inked a new deal with Sirius/XM radio, the satellite company who adopted him when he left terrestrial radio back in 2004. That original deal was worth $500 million dollars. Stern ended up producing content across two different satellite radio stations, and Sirius/XM gives him credit for bringing 20 million more listeners to satellite radio. Though the details of his contract haven't been fully released, analysts believe that the new contract (which is for another five years) is worth around $400 million.

Meanwhile, former Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Crawford inked a deal with the Boston Red Sox for $142 million over seven years. The 29-year-old Crawford is coming off a career season for him, one that saw him bat .307 with 19 home runs and 90 runs batted in. He also has a great deal of speed (he stole 47 bases last season) and plays defense extremely well (he nailed down his first Gold Glove this year). Along with the recently-acquired Adrian Gonzalez, Crawfod will immediately help solidify the center of the Red Sox lineup, which has been lacking in power for the past few seasons.

Both deals feature gigantic dollar figures attached to them, but which one scored bigger on Thursday morning? Vote in the poll below and let us know your arguments in the comments!

The 2010 MTV Video Music Awards are only a few weeks away. The biggest party of the year features nominated clips by Lady Gaga, Eminem, Jay-Z, Ke$ha and Katy Perry and will feature performances by Kanye West, Justin Bieber, Drake, B.o.B and Florence and the Machine (with many more to be announced). In order to properly prepare yourself for what's to come, every day the MTV Newsroom Blog will deliver a classic moment in the history of the MTV Video Music Awards. Today's installment: Howard Stern's alter-ego crashes the party.

Remember the 2009 MTV Movie Awards, which saw Sacha Baron Cohen descend from the ceiling and land with his butt right in Eminem's face? The roots of that stunt date back to the 1992 MTV Video Music Awards, which saw radio shock jock Howard Stern (who at the time was building himself into the self-proclaimed "King of All Media") flew in from the rafters as Fartman, a longtime character from his show. Using the power of his exposed buttocks, Stern unleashed such an intense batch of flatulence that it blew up a piece of the podium where the members of Metallica were accepting an award for Best Metal/Hard Rock Video (for the classic clip "Enter Sandman").

Stern's appearance brought a lot of laughs from the crowd, though Metallica seemed a little miffed (Stern formally apologized to James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich a few years later). It was a remarkable clip that was shocking, surprising, funny and unpredictable — all the things that make the VMAs (and Stern himself) great.

The 27th annual MTV Video Music Awards will be broadcast live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on September 12 at 9 p.m. ET.

"There's not a better job on the planet than judging a f-----g karaoke contest. They'd have to pay me a ton of dough, because I already make a ton of dough. A $100 million to judge a karaoke contest? Yeah, I think I would do that show for $100 million. It would be the best thing that happened to me. What a cush job: $100 million for four months. Who wouldn't take that?"

-Radio host Howard Stern, talking about the rumors surrounding him being the replacement for Simon Cowell as a judge on "American Idol." Last week, the New York Post reported that a source said that producers were weighing the idea of bringing in Stern to replace Cowell after this season of "American Idol" wraps up, as Cowell will be exiting the show to focus on bringing "X Factor" to U.S. television. The rumor has some convenient coincidences rolled into it, as Stern's contract with Sirius/XM expires at the end of this year, and considering the state of satellite radio, it's doubtful that his new contract would be as lucrative as the one he signed back in 2004.

During his show on Monday morning, Stern addressed the rumors without mentioning whether or not he had actually been contacted by "Idol" producers. "I'm not going to comment about any discussions I might or might not have had," he said on the air. "I watch 'American Idol.' ... people seem to think that if I was on it, because I'm such a foul-mouthed, miserable f---, that I would get them thrown off the air. I know how to judge."

He added that nobody would have more credibility as the new "Idol" judge. "If I do say so myself, I can't imagine anyone else but me replacing [Cowell]," Stern said. "I mean, how else are they going to make that show work? Who knows how to broadcast and who knows how to be interesting? And who's not afraid to speak their mind?"

The happy coupleThe only thing shocking about Howard Stern's wedding to longtime girlfriend Beth Ostrosky Friday night was how traditional it was. No midgets, no strippers, no flaming farts — just 180 guests, including Joan Rivers, Barbara Walters and Billy Joel, and a bride in a white chiffon dress.
