Jessica Simpson

Pregnant ladies of the future rejoice! Some very stylish celebrities plan to dream up some fabulous fashions for the expecting set. So, if one day you plan to have a baby on board, Jessica Simpson and Beyonce have got your back.

The two pop stars-turned-pregnant moguls, have recently announced that they want to make moms look cool, though we imagine it might take a second to get the lines to market (you know since they are currently probably more focused on their pregnancies).

Beyonce made her announcement in Harper’s Bazaar, sharing her philosophy about dressing for two. "I love figuring out designs that still make me feel edgy and sexy while pregnant," she told the mag. "Flowy fabrics are always flattering…but I still rock my stilettos."

So does Jessica, who Fashionista reports will have her maternity line out by February. Given how successful Jessica has been in the fashion world, we have no doubt that she’ll be able to nail down just what mommas-to-be all across the world want to wear. Read More...

Jessica Simpson

They say that when life hands you lemons you should make lemonade, and it looks like Jessica Simpson has taken this idiom to heart.

The reality TV/pop star announced yesterday that she is expecting her first child with fiancé Eric Johnson with a statement on her website accompanied by a photo of herself dressed as a mummy (get it?) with a caption reading, "It's true — I'm going to be a mummy!" But if Internet buzz is to be believed, Simpson didn't always plan to announce her pregnancy in such a low-key (but totally adorable and perfect) way. Word on the street is that Simpson wanted to sell her story to one of the weekly rags for a cool $500,000 but paparazzi caught her looking very pregnant before a deal could be reached and none of the tabloids would pony up the cash for the worst kept secret in Tinseltown.

We think the way Simpson ultimately handled the announcement was flawless. Sure, an extra $500 grand would have been nice, but it's not like she needs the cash – Simpson is inarguably the most successful celeb-turned- designer on the block with a billion dollar fashion line to her name. There's something that's just deeply lowbrow and gross about selling the details of your private life to a tabloid for profit. It's simply not an A-list thing to do, Jess. Pics of the kid once he or she is born we totally get – the celeb is getting ahead of demand for that first picture and saving their newborn from having a bounty placed on their head by paparazzi (though, if they were truly classy, they'd turn even that cash over to charity the way Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt did). But whenever we find out about, say, Michelle McGee selling the dirty details of her affair with Jesse James to In Touch, our stomach turns.

No, this was better, Jessica – less fame-whorey, less tabloid trashy. It's a trend we'd like to see catch on, and we're not just talking about stars opting away from the rags for announcements like this. Simpson's costume-clad, pun-filled statement was adorable and reminded us why we love the dizzy blonde bombshell.

So we're calling for all celebs from here on out to have a little more fun with these things than the standard-issue press release. This year, of course, there was another great example of a celeb taking her pregnancy announcement to another level. Check it out after the jump! Read More...

Beyonce

By Morgan Schwartz

Father knows best. Or at least that’s what celebrities sometimes tell themselves when hiring one or more of their parents to help out with their careers. But does being a good mom or dad necessarily translate into being a stellar manager?

Beyonce is just the most recent star to experience some of the trauma that comes along with hiring a parent to help shape a career. Bey, who made it big with Destiny’s Child before branching off and becoming a superstar solo artist, enlisted the help of both her mom and her dad from the start. Mom Tina took on the role of “stylist,” while dad Matthew stepped in as her manager. While things were seemingly going well, it was announced in March that Beyonce and her dad had “parted ways amicably” (she continues to work with her mother). Now, speculation has surfaced that the separation may not have been as friendly as previously reported.

Although we can’t really speak to the situation – neither Beyonce’s camp nor Live Nation are commenting – it has given us inspiration to look back at other celebrity/parent working relationships to help us decide whether or not hiring a family member is a good or bad idea in showbiz.

Lindsay Lohan

Let’s start with Lindsay Lohan. It’s no secret that drama follows this girl wherever she goes, so it should come as no surprise that her working relationship with her mom Dina is known to be somewhat of a disaster. Dina has worked as Lindsay’s manager despite constant criticism about the way she interacts with her eldest daughter. The Long Island native was known to constantly party with Lindsay, speak publicly about LiLo without her permission, and act as an enabler for the bad behavior we know Lindsay loves to get up to. Lindsay’s dad is also notorious for riding on his daughter’s coattails and making statement after statement about her wrecked reputation. Although never officially employed by Lindsay, Michael Lohan has managed to impact her career (probably for the worse).

Read on for our verdict on Lindsay’s working relationship with her parents as well as our thoughts on the Kardashians, the Simpsons and Britney Spears. Read More...

Jessica Simpson

For a long time, Jessica Simpson was this close to something big. She had a few hit tunes in the early aughts and a successful, if short-lived, reality show with ex-husband Nick Lachey, but despite a big voice and bubbly persona, her oft-rocky love life was the real star of the show. Until she started making purses…

If the 2005 launch of the Jessica Simpson Collection felt like just another celebrity vanity brand at the time, it has evolved into something much bigger. Buoyed by the fact that her threads are wearable, affordable and on trend, Simpson’s line has become the biggest celebrity fashion brand ever, with revenue projected to top $1 billion in 2011.

So it’s no surprise that NBC has tapped the starlet to mentor contestants on its new reality show, The Fashion Star. Simpson will share her expertise (who thought we’d ever say that?) with a group of aspiring designers “as they compete for the chance to win a multi-million dollar contract to launch their own brands.”

Every day a multitude of stars wander through the halls of MTV News to talk about their latest projects and goof around with our intrepid correspondents. But sometimes we catch stars elsewhere, and that's why we put together Spotted!, a daily compendium of stars in the wild.

Now that the holidays are over, it seems like most of the world's biggest stars are back from their vacations, fully recovered from their time off and ready to get back to the business of being famous. Such was the case with Jessica Simpson, who arrived in New York via John F. Kennedy Airport on Tuesday (January 4) with her mother Tina close behind. Simpson closed out 2010 in fine fashion, releasing a greatest hits compilation, participating in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and performing at the Christmas tree-lighting ceremony in Rockefeller Center. Of course, she also had some joy away from her professional life, as she got engaged to former NFL star Eric Johnson, and they are currently in the process of planning their big day. Simpson most recently spent time in Aspen, Colorado with her fiancé, where they shopped around town with friends and celebrated the new year.

Simpson wasn't the only star out among the people, as Reese Witherspoon, Tom Hanks, David Beckham and Edward Norton all watched the Los Angeles Lakers obliterate the Detroit Pistons at the Staples Center (a game in which Pau Gasol blew up for 21 points and three other Lakers were in double figures). Click here for these photos as well as the entire "Spotted" archive, which features over 500 candid shots of stars like Britney Spears, Taylor Swift, Eminem, Justin Bieber, Jay-Z, Lady Gaga, Kanye West, Madonna, the Jonas Brothers and Katy Perry!

The clock on the wall says it's just about time for us to call it a week here in the MTV Newsroom, but our pre-holiday work is hardly done. Be sure to check back in this space and at MTV News for coverage of the American Music Awards (which features Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, Rihanna, Kid Rock, the Black Eyed Peas and the Backstreet Boys, among others) this Sunday, November 21. We'll be live-blogging the red carpet where MTV News' own Tim Kash and James Montgomery will be on hand to chat with the biggest names in music, so don't miss out.

But before you get distracted by the fact that the makeshift football field they have installed at Wrigley Field will only have one working end zone this weekend, check out what you might have missed on the MTV Newsroom Blog.

» Kanye West's new album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy comes out next week, but you can get a jump on all the cultural references before you enjoy it when it drops.

» Jessica Simpson announced that she is engaged to former NFL tight end Eric Johnson, making her the latest pop star to find love in the NFL.

» Girl Talk surprised everyone with a free album called All Day that broke the Internet and reminded us fondly of his golf cart adventure at Lollapalooza.

» A little movie called "Harry Potter" is out this week, and that meant that Emma Watson was everywhere.

Only a few weeks after Nick Lachey announced his engagement to longtime girlfriend Vanessa Minnillo, his ex-wife Jessica Simpson grabbed similar headlines when she proclaimed that she too was engaged to former NFL tight end Eric Johnson. It will be the second marriage for both of them (Johnson's divorce from his first wife was just finalized in September) and is the second NFL-related relationship for Simpson (who dated Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo for two years).

In fact, Simpson's impending nuptials to Johnson certainly isn't the first intersection of pop music and the National Football League. Plenty of other pop stars have had relationships with professional gridiron warriors.

Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes and Andre Rison
Lopes, one third of groundbreaking R&B trio TLC, dated former Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Andre "Bad Moon" Rison in the early '90s. Lopes was a devoted girlfriend (she had Rison's jersey number tattooed on her arm) but was also the jealous type (she burned Rison's house down in 1994).

Carrie Underwood and Tony Romo
Before Romo dated Simpson, he was linked to country star and former "American Idol" winner Carrie Underwood for a year. When their relationship ended, she switched her sports allegiances and ended up marrying professional hockey player Mike Fisher.

Jane Russell and Bob Waterfield
One of the definitive sex symbols of the '40s and '50s thanks to her sexy appearances on film and television (and in wartime pin-ups), Russell also attempted to launch a music career (which included the singles "As Long As I Live" and "Boin-n-n-ng!"). She married quarterback Bob Waterfield, who spent his entire career with the NFL's Rams (first in Cleveland, then in Los Angeles) and won the NFL championship in 1945 and 1951.

Victoria and David Beckham
OK, so this is the other kind of football, but it still counts. Victoria first made a name for herself as a member of the Spice Girls, while David is considered one of the best soccer players of the modern era.

Who is your favorite NFL/pop music couple? Let us know in the comments!

Taylor Swift isn't one to let criticism get her down. Despite the fact that she faced some hefty criticism at the Grammy Awards earlier this year, she did not let that stop her from continuing to perform on high-profile broadcasts (and continuously improving and killing it in the process). In the months since, she delivered a stellar song during the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards, performed a great set during Monday night's (October 25) "Speak Now: Taylor Swift Live From New York City" and was great on Tuesday morning's (October 26) edition of "Today." She performed a trio of songs, including the new tracks "Mine" and "Speak Now" as well as "Love Story."

She wasn't the only star getting the job done, as Janet Jackson walked the red carpet at the New York premiere of the new Tyler Perry film "For Colored Girls" and Jessica Simpson paid a visit to the Maria Shriver Women's Conference at the Long Beach Convention Center in Long Beach, California. The future of "American Idol" was already up in the air with Simon Cowell's exit from the show before Ellen DeGeneres announced she wasn't coming back and rumors started circulating that Kara DioGuardi was also leaving the confines of the judges' table. In the past few months, we've spent a number of posts trying to figure out who would be the new version of Simon Cowell. But we realized that the search the producers of the show should be conducting is one for the new Paula Abdul.

Since her exit, the efforts of DeGeneres and DioGuardi have driven home the fact that the show really missed Abdul's approach to the show, which was equal parts poetic, positive, wacky, insightful and completely unhinged. And not only did Abdul give something to "Idol," but "Idol" also gave a lot to Abdul, resurrecting the former chart-topper's career and making her a player in both the worlds of television and music.

That's why there are a handful of artists who should be clamoring to grab a chair behind the judges' table on "American Idol." The rumored deal with Jennifer Lopez is interesting, but here are the 10 we think would do even better.

Click here for photos of the former pop stars who would make excellent "American Idol" judges!

Jessica Simpson
Though she has had a few moments on reality television (most recently on the VH1 show "Jessica Simpson's The Price of Beauty"), her music career has sputtered a bit since her initial string of hits at the turn of the century. A high-profile spot on "Idol" would definitely elevate her status and give her all sorts of options moving forward. Plus, she knows plenty about music and has a winning personality.

Mandy Moore
Though she has completely reinvented herself since the "Candy" era, Mandy Moore deserves to be a much bigger star. Her experience at various levels of the record industry and her interest in a number of different genres (pop, rock, country and the like) would make her a stellar choice.

Nick Lachey
Lachey hasn't been around very much since the "Newlyweds" era, but the guy knows music, has a great television presence and, most importantly, says what he thinks, which would not only make him a great Paula replacement but also a great fill-in for Simon.

JC Chasez
Sure, the former *NSYNC member (who put out one of the most underrated solo albums of the boy band era) spends a lot of his time as a judge on "America's Best Dance Crew" (which also happens to be produced by none other than Randy Jackson), but there's no reason why he couldn't pull double time, as he is a key reason why "ABDC" is such a hit. He's cutting, insightful and gets to the point in ways that most people can't.

Every day a multitude of stars wander through the halls of MTV News to talk about their latest projects and goof around with our intrepid correspondents. But sometimes we catch stars elsewhere, and that's why we put together Spotted!, a daily compendium of stars in the wild.

Jessica Simpson began her career as the reserved version of the other teenage pop starlets but has since remade herself into an actress, reality show star and advocate for a number of noble causes. Her most recent project, "Jessica Simpson's The Price of Beauty," saw Simpson crossing the world and talking to women about health and beauty traditions all over the planet. She has also gone to work for Operation Smile, which treats oral deformities like cleft lips and palates in children all over the world. Simpson was a guest at their annual benefit gala at Cipriani in New York City on Thursday night (May 6). The event also played host to celebrities like Nick Cannon and "The City" star Olivia Palermo.

They weren't the only famous folks doing their bit for charity, as Snoop Dogg and George Lopez hung out at the Lupus Orange Ball in Beverly Hills, California, while former "American Idol" winner Kris Allen performed at a benefit for the Save the Music Foundation at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. Click here for these photos as well as the entire "Spotted!" archive, which features over 400 candid shots of stars like Britney Spears, Taylor Swift, the Black Eyed Peas, Justin Timberlake, Miley Cyrus, the Jonas Brothers, Jay-Z, Katy Perry, Mariah Carey, Lady Gaga, Madonna and 50 Cent!
