MySpace got off to an early start at this year’s CES (Consumer Electronics Show) yesterday in Las Vegas with co-owner Justin Timberlake announcing the company’s latest attempt at staying relevant, MySpace TV.

"We’re ready to take television and entertainment to the next step by upgrading it to the social networking experience. Why text or email your friends to talk about your favorite programs after they’ve aired when you could be sharing the experience with real-time interactivity from anywhere across the globe?” he stated in his presentation. (How about watching television with your friends in-person? Whatever happened to that?)

Apparently, the service will allow you to essentially watch a program and share or comment with your friends online about it, whilst viewing the content in real-time. You can also invite your friends to watch a program with you and join online fan communities.

The presentation mentioned that initial channels will be music-focused and get some good use out of the website’s library of 100,000 music videos and over 42 million songs. Although, it is noted that they will eventually go beyond the world of music and work “to encompass movies, news, sports and reality channels, with a growing lineup of today’s most popular broadcast and on-demand content.”

Of course, an app of the service will soon be available on tablets and smartphones. Read More...

"She works hard for the money," Donna Summer once sang, and just as it was the case in 1983, pop stars these days have to work their butts off to earn those album purchases, downloads and concert ticket sales in this age of YouTube, X-Box and Angry Birds.

But while some singers identify with the Protestant work ethic espoused by Donna, there are others who, as Bruno Mars puts it, “don’t feel like doing anything [and] just wanna lay in my bed.” And it’s not always only those who are hardworking who find success, as the popularity of Bruno proves. Sometimes you can have your cake and eat it.

So, who’s working hard and who’s not? In the spirit of Christmas, we decided to put together a pop star naughty and nice list for Santa. Read More...

Janet Jackson

By Zachary Swickey

It’s hard to believe that seven years later we’re still talking about “Nipplegate” – Janet Jackson’s controversial wardrobe malfunction from the Super Bowl XXXVIII halftime show – but a federal appeals court just ruled that the Federal Communications Commission might have been a bit hasty with their fine for Janet Jackson and CBS over the incident.

The Wrap reports that according to the Philadelphia 3rd District Court of Appeals, the FCC wrongly fined Jackson and the network $550,000 for her performance, which included Timberlake ripping off a scrap of her clothing and accidentally exposing the singers left breast (although if I recall, she covered it up with a tasteful sun-shaped jewel resembling Godsmack’s logo). Of course the government agency wasn’t thrilled with the outcome, but CBS spokeswoman Shannon Jacobs viewed the ruling as the FCC being forced to adhere to the indecency policies they had in place before the incident occurred. As you can see from this handy dandy wiki chart (of course the incident has its own Wikipedia page), the fine-to-complaints ratio was rather askew.

The case has been in legal limbo for years now. In 2008, the 3rd Circuit Court ruled to void the fine, a ruling vacated by the Supreme Court in 2009. The case subsequently returned to the 3rd Circuit once again. Read More...

Britney Spears Criminal Video

Just like you, we gasped at the nearly NSFW video for Britney Spears' 'Criminal.' It's by far her most risqué look yet, and that's saying a lot from the woman who reinvented the mile high club in the classic 'Toxic' video.

There's plenty of chatter about that shower scene with Brit's real life beau Jason Trawick and one of our favorite responses came not in words, but in animated GIF form, reuniting Britney with Justin Timberlake in full 'Cry Me a River' mode.

This week is a big one for followers of nude photo scandals. Not only did photos of Scarlett Johansson hit the web, but there are now rumors that sexy photos of her "What Goes Around" video co-star Justin Timberlake – taken on his "Friends With Benefits" co-star Mila Kunis' phone – are floating around the world somewhere. Justin connection aside, the most surprising part of this scandal is that these two ladies, both of whom tend to keep their private lives to themselves, are actually involved with a nude photo scandal to begin with.

Over the course of the new millennium, countless celebrities have been embroiled in sex scandals, some unsurprising and some very, very surprising, and most of which have no connection to Justin T whatsoever. So, which scandals really surprised us? Read More...

By now, it’s really not that surprising to find Lady Gaga making the Top 10 of some list magazines always come up with: She was the top artist in Time’s 100 Most Influential People in the World in 2010, No. 1 in Forbes annual list of the 100 most powerful celebrities in the world, and, once again, No. 1 in DoSomething’s "Celebs Gone Good" list for her strong advocacy for social causes. But the latest list that Gaga makes is a little more unexpected: The 25-year-old is No. 9 in Vanity Fair's 2011 New Establishment list.

According to a press release from the esteemed magazine, the New Establishment list represents an "innovative new breed of buccaneering visionaries, engineering prodigies and entrepreneurs, who quite often sport hoodies, floppy hair and backpacks.” Gaga sporting a hoodie and a backpack? Wash your mouth out! Actually, Gaga joins the much-more-likely-to-be-wearing-hoodies billionaires Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook and Jack Dorsey of Twitter on the list because of her budding entrepreneurial efforts in the world of technology.

Yes, somehow despite her busy schedule of being an international pop superstar and fashion icon, Gaga manages to squeeze some time in her day to do business. Gaga the businesswoman (Boss Monster?) has no less than four concurrent business deals: She’s an investor in Blackplane, a social network for celebrities, creative director of Polaroid, and has partnered with Zynga to create a “GagaVille” videogame and with Monster to produce her own line of to-die-for headphones that were showcased in the "Bad Romance" video. To sum up: Gaga rules us all. Read More...

Justin Timberlake

By Morgan Schwartz

Anyone looking for Justin Timberlake’s newest music venture has to look no further than his latest tweet. While he sadly isn’t bringing sexy back just yet, JT may be starting a new fashion trend – hoodies and hats – with the latest video from FreeSol, one of the acts signed to his Tennman Records.

Justin, who formed Tennman Records with Interscope in 2007, has signed a few lucky musicians such as Esmee Denters and Matt Morris and just directed FreeSol’s music video for “Hoodies On, Hats Low.” Basically, he’s just letting the world know how talented he is not only at singing and dancing himself, but at spotting and helping promote other artists. Want to know more about who Justin’s signed and what they’re doing? Let’s take a look.

Matt Morris
You may recognize Matt Morris from Justin’s “Hope for Haiti Now” performance of “Hallelujah.” That sexy voice singing harmony and strumming the guitar? Yep, that was Matt. But that wasn’t their first time performing together. When they were kids, Matt and Justin met in the “Mickey Mouse Club.” (Come on! Britney, Christina, Justin – who WASN’T in this club?!) While Justin went on to pursue pop teenage stardom, Matt opted for a more low-key upbringing. But his love for singing didn’t stop and once Justin formed Tennman Records, Matt was one of the first people Justin looked to sign. With credentials like co-writing songs for Christina Aguilera and Kelly Clarkson and a voice that will blow you away, it’s no surprise people love Matt. His debut album, When Everything Breaks Open, was released in January 2010. Since then, Matt has just been doing what he loves most: performing. Check out his Facebook to see where you can catch him next!

Justin Timberlake and Amanda Seyfried

From Hollywood Crush:

Ahhhh, Comic-Con! It's a place for movie gossip, a place for celebrity sightings and, of course, a place for seeing full-grown adults dressed up in spandex superhero suits without so much as a hint of embarrassment. But, above all, it is a place for GEEKS. Which is why, when MTV News' Josh Horowitz got a few famous people to sit down with him for our latest After Hours, we put them to the test with a little Game of Geekery. Which "Twilight" star knows his Tolkien trivia? Which sultry starlets are secret nerds? Can't anyone do a decent impression of Yoda anymore?! Find out, in...."GEEKS OR POSERS!"

Things get off to a sad start when Josh asks his assembled guests to begin by naming Elijah Wood's character in "Lord of the Rings." Amanda Seyfried stutters, "It's, uh... y'know. That guy?" before giving up. And Elizabeth Reaser and Nikki Reed look like a pair of deer in the headlights as they each look to each other for help. Bzzzzt! Posers! Deer-lookin' posers!!!

Watch the video, which also features Taylor Lautner, Justin Timberlake and new “Superman” Henry Cavill, after the jump. Read More...
