Even though there was big money moved around at a Michael Jackson auction and plenty of people are buzzing about last night's American Music Awards, the weekend was really about one story. "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" stormed into theaters just after midnight last Thursday (November 19) and racked up massive numbers care of some devoted fans, who nursed the film to the third biggest film opening of all time (though still falling $18 million short of the impressive tally brought in by "The Dark Knight" last year). There's no doubt that the "New Moon" stars are everywhere, from our talk shows to our meals at Burger King to our local Volvo dealer.
In fact, there are plenty of places where "New Moon" characters have shown up that you might have missed. For instance, when Jay-Z and Alicia Keys performed "Empire State of Mind" at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, everybody remembers Lil Mama crashing the stage and posing alongside the two stars. But did you notice that Caius (played by Jamie Campbell Bower) also got in on the action? Take a look.

MTV News' resident photo expert Sohyung Kang has combed through the archives and unearthed a number of revelatory shots that show the "New Moon" characters dropping into the most unlikely of scenarios. Which of the "New Moon" crew was spotted cruising around with Kristin Cavallari? Which character did a sexy dance at the Teen Choice Awards? Which one snuck into an episode of "Glee"? Which one infiltrated one of Michael Jackson's most famous album covers? Click here to see all of your favorite "New Moon" characters — including Bella, Edward, Jacob, Jasper, Rosalie and Esme — sneaking into all corners of pop culture!

There might have been other cultural events happening last night, but as far as the pop universe is concerned, the only real event last night (and all week, really) was the premiere of "New Moon," the hotly-anticipated second entry in the "Twilight" film series. The film had its big red carpet event last night (check out last night's live blog over at Hollywood Crush for all the sordid details) that again brought together the series' hot trio of Taylor Lautner, Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson. The premiere was also attended by co-stars Dakota Fanning, Nikki Reed, Kellan Lutz and Ashley Greene, as well as 50 Cent, Death Cab for Cutie frontman Chris Walla, Emma Roberts, OK Go, film director Kevin Smith and, of course, hundreds of fans who gathered outside the Mann Village Theater in Los Angeles.
There were other lower-profile events happening yesterday too, as Rihanna celebrated the release of her new album Rated R at a London club and Justin Bieber hung out in Queens on the eve of his album's release. "I want to do nothing. I literally just want to go outside and go for a walk. I want to be able to wake up in the morning and not know what I'm going to do, and feel out the day. But the way I like to do that is to just get up, and go outside. And I can't really do that. I literally don't have anything besides the walk thing [to complain about]. I should stop saying that. Because I do get to take walks — it's just not the same kind as I used to. And it's also like, I think this is the most intense that it's going to get. After this, it's only going to put me in a better position to do what I love after this saga is complete."
-"New Moon" star Kristen Stewart, discussing the strange things that fame sometimes takes away from young people. The 19-year-old actress went from vaguely recognizable to ubiquity almost overnight, but she's not complaining about the life that "Twilight" has created for her. "I'm the luckiest person in the world," she told MTV News' Larry Carroll. "I get to do every single day what I [want to do with my life]. If I wasn't doing this, I would be searching to find another venue in which I could express myself." In addition to starring as Bella in the remaining "Twilight" films (the second of which, "New Moon," opens next week), Stewart will also be appearing in the rock biopic "The Runaways," in which she plays female punk legend Joan Jett.

While most of North America begins to settle into the crisp, cold winter months, Britney Spears is enjoying the birth of the Australian summer. She has taken her Circus tour down under for a series of shows, marking the first time that Spears has performed live in Australia. Though the shows have been wildly entertaining, things haven't gone entirely to plan. According to reports, fans walked out on the first few shows while complaining that the performance was "boring" and "stiff." That news reportedly upset Spears, whose tour promoter said, "I'm embarrassed, with such a big international entourage here with Britney, to be part of the Australian media when I see that kind of totally inaccurate reporting" and claimed the stories about fans exiting were total fabrications. There has also been a bit of controversy over Spears' lip-synching during the shows — in fact, the Fair Trade Minister of New South Wales suggested that tickets should come with a disclaimer letting buyers know which parts of the concert were pre-recorded. Despite all the controversy, Spears seemed to be in good spirits on her way out of her hotel in Perth.
Elsewhere, Kristen Stewart teamed up with Sugar Ray Leonard to fight juvenile diabetes in Los Angeles and a whole host of stars — including Anthony Kiedis and Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers — hung out at the Staples Center for the Lakers game on Sunday. Click here for these photos as well as the entire "Spotted!" archive, which contains more than 350 candid shots of stars like Beyoncé, Justin Timberlake, Lady Gaga, Madonna, Adam Lambert, 50 Cent, the Jonas Brothers, Rihanna and Taylor Swift!

"There's no answer that's not going to tip you one way or the other. Think about every hypothetical situation: 'OK, we are. We aren't. I'm a lesbian.' I'm just trying to keep something. I'm not going to give the fiending an answer. I know that people are really funny about 'Well, you chose to be an actor, why don't you just f---ing give your whole life away?! Can I have your firstborn child?'"
-"New Moon" star Kristen Stewart, talking to Entertainment Weekly about the constant questions she gets about her personal life — and specifically her relationship with co-star Robert Pattinson. Ever since "Twilight" became a smash success and Stewart became both a household name and a tabloid staple, the rumors about her relationship with Pattinson have been constant. She's clearly frustrated by the media blitz on her life, and she's not taking it lying down. "I probably would've answered it if people hadn't made such a big deal about it," she said.

With the extended trailer having debuted at this past Sunday's MTV Video Music Awards and the first song from the soundtrack — Death Cab for Cutie's "Meet Me on the Equinox" — premiered on MTV.com during that same show. Now a New York Times article says that the full soundtrack will be announced some time tomorrow, so now would be a great time to take a look at what we know.
According to "New Moon" music supervisor Alexandra Patsavas, this album will have a much greater "indie" bent than the soundtrack to "Twilight" did. That makes sense considering the rumored groups involved. So far, it's almost certain that Thom Yorke, Bon Iver, Band of Skulls and Muse will all have contributions on the album. The Times suggested that the Killers and Grizzly Bear (you know, Beyoncé and Jay-Z's favorite band) have also been independently confirmed as being participants, but Patsavas wouldn't comment on either one. At Comic-Con, director Chris Weitz also mentioned that Kings of Leon were in the running for a spot, but there has been little mention of them since that initial suggestion. And the Used member Jeph Howard tweeted that his band was recording a song for "New Moon" as well.
So assuming all of the above artists will be included, that makes eight tracks so far. Other rumored contributors include Coldplay (one of "Twilight" author Stephanie Meyer's favorite bands) and Kelly Clarkson (a fan who wrote "Empty as I Am" because she was inspired by "New Moon"). Reportedly former "American Idol" runner-up Justin Guarini also submitted a song (called "I Can't Live") for possible inclusion. Whatever the final list may be, it'll certainly be an eclectic mix full of melancholy that should make for an excellent accompaniment to watching Kristen Stewart pine for Robert Pattinson.
It's official: The 2009 MTV Video Music Awards (which air live from New York City's Radio City Music Hall on Sunday, September 13) will be just a little darker (and sexier) than usual, as Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner will officially be present at the ceremony. What's more, the trio will debut a longer version of the trailer to the upcoming "New Moon," which is certain to contain more exposed abs, sad-eyed longing and wolf teeth. Just in case you can't wait 11 days before seeing the latter, there are plenty of excellent music videos that feature wild canines, both of the normal and were variety.
There's a long history of wolves in popular music, as they are a good shorthand for power, savagery and transformation. Michael Jackson morphed into a wolf (or a werecat, depending on your perspective) in "Thriller," the Flaming Lips' Wayne Coyne gets chased by a beast in the clip for "The Yeah Yeah Yeah Song" and Every Time I Die's "We'rewolf" pays tribute to "Teen Wolf." In the Backstreet Boys' "Everybody (Backstreet's Back)," Brian Littrell plays the werewolf role, while turning into a hairy beast helps a bullied kid exact vengeance in the spot for Bullet for My Valentine's "Waking the Demon." Check out the full lineup of wolf-centric videos below, including the recently-released clip for Shakira's latest single "She Wolf," which only contains a handful of shots of wolves but does feature the singer writhing like a four-legged prowler and plenty of Auto-Tune-assisted howling at the moon.

It's Friday afternoon here in the MTV Newsroom, which means it's time to pack up the video cameras, type up the last of the reports and prepare for this weekend's Nine Inch Nails shows in New York City. But it's also time to take a look back, which is why we dive headlong into this week's Deep Cuts.
» When we elect President Britney Spears in 2020, apparently we'll all get pie and hang out in Cabo. Honestly, is that any worse than President Palin would do?
» Joe Jonas will be so great a guest judge on "American Idol" that the producers will have no choice but to give him Paula Abdul's seat on a permanent basis.
» Queen guitarist Brian May has heard Adam Lambert's new song, and he's not afraid to voice his enthusiasm about it.
» Are Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson really dating? It goes back and forth every day, but you have some awfully strong opinions about it one way or another.

Last week, Hollywood Crush took a look at the relationship between "Twilight" stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart. Were they actually dating? Were they only putting on a show? The duo attended a Kings of Leon concert in Vancouver (where the pair have just begun filming the third installment of the "Twilight" series, "Eclipse") over the weekend and were spotted holding each other close like an actual couple. But the signals remain somewhat split, which is why we hit the streets to find out what the public thought.
We polled a handful of people milling about New York City's Times Square (including a handful of fans waiting to get in to today's edition of "It's On with Alexa Chung") and asked them: Are Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart really dating?
The grotesquely unscientific results are in, and it's a landslide: Over three-quarters of those asked (a healthy 76 percent) believe that the two are in fact an actual couple. The people who thought so tended to give the pair credit for strategy, saying that they are probably just trying to play it cool and keep it away from the media rather than try to live their relationship out in public. A number of those among the 24 percent who said that they didn't think Pattinson and Stewart were an item also actively rooted against such a relationship. In any event, the two will have plenty of time to figure out their situation, as they'll be stuck with each other — and also co-stars Taylor Lautner and Bryce Dallas Howard — while filming for "Eclipse" continues over the next several weeks.
Now that the 2009 version of the San Diego Comic-Con has wrapped, it's time to sort out what everybody is talking about. Obviously, the upcoming release of "New Moon" got everybody buzzing. The new details, photos and rumors about "Iron Man 2" were a hot topic. Tim Burton's upcoming "Alice in Wonderland" (starring Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter) got an incredible reaction, as did the forthcoming Seth Rogen-powered "The Green Hornet." Only "New Moon" will see a release in 2009, but that doesn't mean that people won't be whispering about them for months.
Since buzz is king, we wanted to know which of those four films won the buzz wars from this weekend's Comic-Con. So we hit the streets to talk to the folks waiting to get into the audience of "It's On with Alexa Chung" and asked them: Which film — "New Moon," "Alice in Wonderland," "The Green Hornet" or "Iron Man 2" — is the one you are most looking forward to seeing?
The (not even remotely scientific) numbers reveal a surprising result: 70 percent of people are most excited for Burton's "Alice in Wonderland," whose trailer recently premiered and whose production stills have inspired a great deal of debate and ranting on the Internet. Coming in a distant second place was "New Moon" with 15 percent of the vote, followed by "Iron Man 2" with eight percent and "The Green Hornet" with seven percent. While most of the respondents cited the leading man (either Depp or Robert Pattinson) as the primary reason for wanting to see the film, a surprising number of people said that director Burton was a main contributor to their excitement about "Alice in Wonderland."
What do you think: Are you most looking forward to "Alice in Wonderland," or does "New Moon" still take up all your anticipation energy? Leave your thoughts in the comments or head over to Your.MTV.com to make your voice heard!
