There are a handful of things you are likely to see at a Smashing Pumpkins concert. You'll definitely get a turned-to-11 blast of industrial-sized rock riffs. It's probable you'll get a few jokes from frontman Billy Corgan and some decent stage patter. You'll certainly get to see 20-year-old drummer Mike Byrne absolutely tearing up the kit. But at the Pumpkins' concert stop at the National Auditorium in Mexico City on Friday (August 27), the band was interrupted by a trio of Mexican luchadors who attacked Corgan, which required the assistance of three more warriors who made the save.

During the show, Corgan was interrupted by Alex Koslov, Hernandez and Decnis, three stars from the Mexican wrestling group AAA. They claimed that that performance was no good and that they had decided to shut down the whole evening, even going as far as attacking Corgan. Once they laid a hand on the 43-year-old Chicagoan (and professional wrestling enthusiast), that was the cue for La Parka, Mesias and Extreme Tiger to hit the stage to make the save. They saved Corgan from physical harm and chased the three villains ("heels" in wrestle-speak) away to let the concert continue.

This is hardly the first time that Corgan has been associated with the squared circle. He did an angle on the old Extreme Championship Wrestling television show back in the day, which saw him smash a guitar over the head of Lou E. Dangerously. Back in 2008, Corgan loaned the Pumpkins' song "Doomsday Clock" to independent outfit Ring of Honor to promote one of their pay-per-view events. And most recently, Corgan did promo work for Total Nonstop Action's annual Lockdown event, which saw him in the middle of a steel cage reciting the lyrics to "Bullet With Butterfly Wings." He even showed up to the Sunset Strip Music Festival a day later with his lucha mask-wearing son. The guy is clearly a fan, and will take any opportunity to throw a little wrasslin' into the mix.

It's MTV's World Cup of Rock! The World Cup is the greatest sporting event on the planet, a super-sized stage where legends are born with every strike of the ball, where infamy is just a moment away and where the dreams of millions live or die by the minute. That's why, in the spirit of the 2010 MTV Musical March Madness competition, we've created "The World Cup (Of Rock)," a FIFA-style tournament that takes 16 of the biggest nations — rock-wise (sorry Algeria) — and pits them against one another to determine just which is the most rockingly awesome. Heavyweights like the U.S.A., England, France and Germany are all here, but so are a handful of surprisingly strong sleeper countries. As the Cup progresses, we'll be unveiling the match-ups, and it's up to you to vote your favorites through. In the end, only one nation will be left standing: the world champion of rock.

After dozens of matches, hundreds of thousands of votes, plenty of thrilling upsets and some truly committed fans, the MTV World Cup of Rock has come to a close, and we're happy to congratulate South Korea as the grand champion. While the final match of the 2010 FIFA World Cup of Rock was an anti-climatic slog of a game between Spain and the Netherlands, the last showdown of MTV's World Cup of Rock was exciting down to the final minute of voting. Powered by the support of international K-Pop superstar Rain, South Korea jumped out to an early lead, only to be overtaken by the raw power of Tokio Hotel and Germany. But as the hours ticked down, South Korea slowly fought their way back and managed to surge ahead of their competition.

It was a tremendous battle, and both groups of fans should be proud. In fact, kudos to the commenters on the final match post, as they all seem to be shaking hands and paying respect to one another. In many ways, it's the virtual version of the teams exchanging jerseys at the end of a match.

In the third place game, Australia (perhaps one of the biggest surprises in the entire tournament) topped Mexico to take the bronze medal. It was yet another comeback victory that featured an early Mexican lead and a late Australian surge.

Thanks to everybody who voted, commented and got involved in the inaugural MTV World Cup of Rock, and congratulations again to South Korea (and specifically to fans of Rain). Your favorite superstar would be proud of you.

One of the great traditions of the FIFA World Cup is the consolation game, which matches up the two losers in the semi-final round and puts them up against each other to see who should own third place. This Saturday (July 10), Uruguay will square off against Germany to see who will own that position and carry a bit of momentum into the next World Cup in 2014. Meanwhile, the MTV World Cup of Rock's third place game features two teams who put up good fights but ultimately fell to the two juggernauts in this tournament. You have from now until 11:59 p.m. this Sunday, July 11 to get your votes in, and we'll officially announce the winner on Monday, July 12!

Australia vs. Mexico
Australia tore through group play and the bracket before running into the monster that is Germany, while Mexico put up a series of excellent fights before dropping their semi-final match to South Korea. Which team will end up walking away with the bronze medal? Only you can decide!

The 2010 FIFA World Cup has narrowed down its initial field of 32 teams down to just two. After a stunning and tense semi-final match against Germany, Spain emerged the victor and will take on the Netherlands in the final match this Sunday, July 11. That means the third place game will pit Uruguay against the Germans this Saturday, July 10. The final match guarantees that one of those nations will be winning its very first World Cup, and both Spain and the Netherlands are countries with excellent soccer pedigrees who deserve a shot at the big prize.

Meanwhile, there are only a few hours left to vote in the two semi-final matches in the MTV World Cup of Rock (both polls close tonight at 11:59 p.m. ET). Though the German team has no chance at winning the soccer tournament, they can still play for the championship in the World Cup of Rock — if they maintain their commanding lead over a powerful but perhaps over-matched squad from Australia.

The other semi-final game sees South Korea continuing to hold off surges from Mexico. Fans of Rain (who call themselves "Clouds") have been staying organized and keeping the attack on, which could mean too much for Mexico. But anything is still possible, and only you can decide who will play for the big prize in the MTV World Cup of Rock!

Today, Germany and Spain will go toe-to-toe to determine who will go up against the Netherlands in the championship match at the 2010 FIFA World Cup. It should be a classic tilt between two European powerhouses, and though the German team seems to be the favorite, they are a very young and somewhat inexperienced squad who could easily get surprised by the precision of the Spanish attack.

Meanwhile, voting remains open in the two semi-finals matches in the MTV World Cup of Rock. Germany is still alive in that tournament as well, and they currently hold a commanding lead over their challengers from Australia. The Tokio Hotel fans seem to be on a cruise to the finals, but you should never underestimate the ability of followers of AC/DC, Silverchair, Jet or INXS to make a bit of noise.

In the other game, South Korea is breaking away from Mexico. Can the supporters of superstar Rain finish the job, or will Santana and his fellow Mexican cohorts find themselves in the finals and challenging for the big prize? Only you can decide!

The semi-final round of the 2010 FIFA World Cup begins today with an intriguing game between the surging Netherlands (who bested Brazil in one of the best matches of the tournament) and Uruguay (who knocked out Ghana in a thrilling match that went to a heartbreaking round of penalty kicks). The semi-final round of the MTV World Cup of Rock also get moving today. Only four teams remain alive, and each one could easily make a claim as the rockingest nation on the planet. Voting will be open until 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, July 8, with the finals getting launched on Friday, July 9.

South Korea vs. Mexico
South Korea continues its blast through the tournament and easily bested the Gabe Saporta-led Uruguay in the last round, while Mexico overcame a disappointing United States team (apparently there are more Santana fans out there than we thought). But can those fans overcome the power of Rain and the South Korean contingent? Only you can decide!

The 2010 FIFA World Cup action will continue through Saturday (July 3), and the MTV World Cup of Rock will also keep delivering the thrills. Voting for the first round of the single-elimination tournament ends Monday (July 5) at 11:59 p.m., just in time for the semi-finals to kick off. The final pairing of this round will decide North American dominance.

U.S.A vs. Mexico
The United States needed some last-minute heroics to defeat England and advance out of the group round, but it's a clean slate for the nation that houses everybody from Foo Fighters to Red Hot Chili Peppers to Paramore to 3OH!3. Their opponents? Mexico, our neighbors to the south. Can their solid squad of rockers — including Carlos Santana and Kinky — establish dominance on the continent? Only you can decide!

The 2010 FIFA World Cup gets back underway on Friday (July 2) when the final eight teams start squaring off for a chance to continue playing for soccer's most coveted trophy. Today, the MTV World Cup of Rock kicks off its knockout round, which will see the two top qualifiers from each group advance to an eight-team single-elimination tournament, and in the end, only one country will be left standing to prove that it rocks the hardest and the best. Like the actual World Cup, the top seeds from each group will play the second-place finisher from an adjacent group (so the winner of Group A will play the runner-up of Group B, and the winner of Group C will play the second-place team in Group D).

The opening round was fast and furious, with a handful of breakout juggernauts and a couple of stunning upsets. Let's meet our qualifiers.

Group A
The first group was all about Mexico, who put up good numbers in a couple of close matches against the rest of the group. They earned themselves the top seed, going 3-0 in group competition. Joining them in the next round is Uruguay, who surged to big leads against France and Nigeria and put up a very good fight against first-place Mexico.

Group B
This group was all about South Korea, who hopped onto the Rain bandwagon and never looked back. Their dominating victories over the rest of the group earned them a top seed. In second place, the United States of America caught fire in the final hours of the opening round (not unlike the actual U.S. soccer team) and narrowly edged out England for a spot in the tournament.

Group C
The most intriguing of all the groups in the opening round, Group C was dominated (as expected) by Germany, whose Tokio Hotel-fueled surge made quick work of their opponents. They'll take the top seed in the group. The battle for second place went right down to the wire, as Brazil, Spain and Japan all beat each other once each, making them all 1-2 after group play. As was stated in the original rules of the MTV World Cup of Rock, tiebreakers are decided based on the total number of votes cast, which means that Japan will be seeing second round action. Brazil and Spain have nothing to be ashamed of here, as this group was a true thriller.

Group D
The powerful team from Australia ran the table in the opening round, finishing 3-0 and earning the top seed from the group. The battle for second place was also a nail-biter, as it came down to the showdown between Denmark and Italy. In the end, Italy made a late surge and scored the victory by a mere five votes, securing their spot in the second round.

So there you have it. The MTV World Cup of Rock round of eight includes Mexico, Uruguay, South Korea, the United States of America, Germany, Japan, Australia and Italy. The voting for the first two match-ups will open today, with two more coming tomorrow. In the next round, Germany plays Italy, Australia challenges Japan, Mexico will square off against the United States and South Korea will go toe-to-toe with Uruguay. So get your vuvuzelas ready and prepare your voting fingers, because the World Cup of Rock continues!

No matter where in the world Salma Hayek will be this Sunday, June 27, you can bet she won't be far from a television tuned to the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The "Grown Ups" star from Mexico will be cheering on her home country squad as they take on Argentina in the first round of the knockout portion of the international soccer tournament. The Mexican team held its own during group play, kicking off the tournament with a draw against host country South Africa before knocking out the French and dropping a thrilling game against Honduras. They take on an Argentina team that steamrolled through the group games, registering dominating wins against Nigeria, South Korea and Greece in the process.

This Sunday's match isn't actually a cut-and-dried pick for Hayek, who also has allegiances to Argentina. "I'm such a huge fan of their team, and they have my favorite player in the World Cup: Lionel Messi," she told MTV News on the red carpet at the premiere of "Grown Ups" earlier this week. "I'm 100 percent for Mexico, but the Argentinians are such an extraordinary team."

Hayek recognizes that it will be a struggle for Mexico, but she believes in her home country's team. "I'm all the way for Mexico," she said. "We might need a miracle from the Virgin of Guadalupe, but I believe!" Even if Mexico doesn't advance past Argentina, Hayek can take solace in the fact that Mexico seems to be a lock to advance in the MTV World Cup of Rock.

Who do you think will win the mach between Mexico and Argentina on Sunday, June 27? Let us know in the comments!

Slovakia is currently trying to put Italy's World Cup dreams to sleep in a tremendously physical match-up in the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The MTV World Cup of Rock tournament carries on today as well, with an opening head-to-head match-up between two nations trying to fight their way out of Group A.

Mexico vs. Nigeria
Both of these teams are fighting to make their way out of Group A, though Mexico already has a win in its coffers while Nigeria needs to score here to have any hopes of advancing. Can the power of Afrobeat overcome the team that features the likes of Carlos Santana, Cafe Tacuba and Kinky? Only you can decide!
