Last year, the New Kids on the Block and Backstreet Boys combined their boy-band superpowers for the incomparable spectacle that was the NKOTBSB Tour, which saw the guys tearing up stadiums and arenas across the U.S. with tracks like "I Want It That Way," "Step by Step" and the groups' joint track, "Don't Turn Out the Lights."

The nine guys will once again hit the road this spring, taking their act to Europe and elsewhere for the next leg of the tour. When MTV News caught up with BSB's Howie D while he was promoting his solo album, Back to Me, he said he hoped the show would stay the same — mostly because he didn't have much time to start from scratch.

"For the NKOTBSB show, it will be the same show as of right now," he said. "We haven't really gotten into re-rehearsals until probably March, so as far as I know, we're not changing anything. I hope not, because that means I have to learn new choreography, and I don't have much time to learn new stuff."

There is some time, however, for other stuff. With tourmate Jordan Knight hitting the road on his own later this month, Howie said he'd "love" to go on a headlining Back to Me trek too.

The NKOTBSB Tour kicks off April 20 in Belfast, Ireland, before wrapping up June 1 in Jakarta, Indonesia. We Americans are hoping that the guys have enough energy to add some American dates to that. Hear us, NKOTBSB?

Producer Jim Jonsin recently revealed to us that he'd love for Justin Bieber to channel the ultra smooth pop of the New Kids On The Block on the next batch of songs he puts out.

Since Biebs recently dished to MTV News that he's working on new music and the fact that boy bands are having a moment right now thanks to the success of the NKOTBSB tour, we're totally into that idea.

Justin's silky vocals are very reminiscent of Joey McIntyre's back in the day, so having him get into that groove feels about right to us. Even though Jonsin did note that he doesn't want him to literally cover the New Kids, just to take inspiration from their tunes, it got us thinking: What NKOTB songs would be perfect for Justin to cover?

"Step By Step"
Anytime we get to hear Bieber count the reasons why he loves us in a song, it signifies musical gold to me. Am I right people?

"Right Stuff"
We'd love him to sing this song, if only to learn the New Kids shuffle and perform it LIVE in concert.

So, would the guys of NKOTBSB switch places with one another? The short answer is yes. For the long answers, we went to one half of the band to see what they had to say.

We were totally into most of the guys' answers because they were pretty heartwarming and totally charming. For instance, Brian shared this with us, "I'd want to be Joe during 'Please Don’t Go Girl.' He's got this monumental moment." (For the record, he does. He actually kind of brings the house down.)

Danny's answer was just kind of adorable. Why? Well, this is what he shared, "I would switch places with 'Backstreet's Back' to do the choreography … I always wanted [to]. Well when we talked about this, in my head we'd all be doing that together. But it didn’t happen for me. I love that song and I love the choreography."

Read on for Howie’s surprising answer. Read More...

NKOTBSB

No tour is complete without some antics, and it seems that the men of NKOTBSB are not immune to pulling pranks. In fact, they seem quite into the idea of putting one another in uncomfortable situations.

When MTV News caught up with New Kids Donnie Wahlberg and Danny Wood, as well as Backstreet Boys Brian Littrell and Howie Dorough backstage during their tour stop in New Jersey on Monday, the guys shared what they've been doing to one another to keep themselves entertained and keep their counterparts on their toes.

"I was told night after night to look down during 'Hangin' Tough' cause there's a glass floor on part of the stage and I keep forgetting cause it really is one of the most special moments for me in the show," Donnie warmly recalled. "Well, I finally looked down and I saw Nick Carter's naked bum. He mooned me from below the stage. Very pale bum."

Jealous and afraid you're missing out on something? Well, he added, "I think some people are high enough in the seats that if they thought to look down they could probably see it…"

That's not the only time male nudity has happened whilst on the road. Howie shared, "They got us pretty good one time too…"

MTV News had the honor and distinction this afternoon to head over to 30 Rock to interview the New Kids on the Block and Jimmy Fallon before tonight's show. The interviews were supposed to be separate. You know, we'd get some time with NKOTB and then we'd get some time with Jimmy before he sat down to host "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon."

As we were interviewing NKOTB, however, we found out Jimmy would be coming in and that all six guys would be in the room at the same time. We rolled with it. That's what we do! When Jimmy sat down, he began a very fun little interview with the New Kids.
During their chat, Jimmy decided to join the band. He's Jimmie now. And we have to say, Fallon is still really good at that Boston accent he made famous on "Saturday Night Live." He got some great details about the guys' appearance on his show tonight. Apparently, Fallon's people "demanded" the guys play a medley of their hits with Jimmy's house band, the Roots.

What will they be playing? Want to get some insider details about their appearance on the show? Check out the video.

And tell us: Are you excited the guys are on Fallon's show?

New Kids On The BlockBy Nicole Guanlao

We walked into a hole-in-the-wall warehouse on Thursday to sneak a peek at New Kids on the Block and the Jabbawockeez rehearsing for their surprise joint performance on the "Today Show" — and let me tell you, it was quite the experience.

We were in a small studio space watching them perform and goof around, and there's no doubt that these guys are talented. After several years, the members of New Kids on the Block still look as dreamy as ever and can still bust a move or two. If they came out as a new group in 2009 — having never been NKOTB — I firmly believe they would still hit it big and make the girls swoon. As for the Jabbawockeez, I was in awe over their dancing skills. In fact, I was so jealous of their moves that I asked them to teach me a thing or two. Needless say, I don't think I'm going to be a Jabbawockee any time soon.

We have video of my little dance lesson, but for my own morale, I'd rather lock it away in a vault. Read More...

One of the commenters bashing our own James Montgomery over his dismissal of NKOTB fans actually had a pretty astute point: why so much NKOTB coverage for something maybe we're not taking as seriously as some of the Blockheads are.

Well, that's just how altruistic we are. And as a peace offering, we wanted to show you the fan reaction that happened this morning when Joey, Jon, Jordan, Donnie and Danny came out for the "Today" show. PLUS, BONUS! A segment MTV did on NKOTB back from 1990, on an episode of "The Week In Rock"

The vintage NKOTB clip after the jump.

Hi, NKOTB fans.

Look, maybe we got off on the wrong foot. We really feel like we need to repair this relationship with you. First, we totally respect your love of NKOTB and, sure, we went for the easy punchline. Boy did we learn our lesson (well, except James). We are overwhelmed by your love of NKOTB and, well, your disdain of us.

But one thing I think it's important to note: MTV may no longer be the same as it was back in the day, but with the exception of McDonald's (mmm...McDonald's) and, say, a Bush in the White House, what is? That said, we have a very large and diverse company, and it's not just five dudes sitting in a room saying, "No more videos!" like the villain on Inspector Gadget. Some of us like NKOTB, too! Just like you.

Such as one of our superstar interns, Rya Backer, who braved the rain and made it to the "Today" show to check out NKOTB in all their back-together glory. I mean, just look at how happy she is in that photo above! THAT WAS THIS MORNING! SHE IS STILL BEAMING!

That's right, we embedded an MTV News reporter into the Blockhead fray to see NKOTB make the announcement that they're back together, officially official.

Rya writes with her report, after the jump.

Dear Incredibly Angry, Somewhat Delusional, Easily Offended NKOTB Fans Who Have Been Bombarding The Newsroom Blog With Comments Ever Since We Made One Joke About The Band Reuniting Because They Needed The Cash:

Hi there. Look, we just want to talk. Can you put the torches down for a second? Honestly, you didn't have to form a mob and storm the gates here at MTV Manor. We were just kidding when we suggested that the deciding factor in the New Kids On The Block reunion was money. Obviously that's not the case!

Come on!

We're sure Danny Wood uses $100 bills to light cigars! Joey McIntyre (or, excuse us, Joe) was on "Boston Public"! There's good money in David E. Kelly dramadies! We know they're not broke! Psssssh!

Jeez, it's like you guys can't take a joke or something. Clearly the only reason five dudes in their late 30s would willingly choose to reform under the mantle of "New Kids," perform synchronized dance routines and belt out tunes about "Hangin' Tough" is because they all really loved the music or really missed performing for all of you. Well, either that or they're all going through a collective mid-life crisis and couldn't afford matching Corvettes.

Okay? Good. We just wanted to clear that up.

What? Oh, yeah, also, we didn't mean to suggest that just because you're a fan of a boy-band that hasn’t had a hit single or been culturally relevant in more than 15 years doesn't mean that you're old and/or out of touch in any way. It merely means you found something you liked -- in this case, cheesy, hormonally stunted, pre-fab pop sung by five kids from Boston with lines shaved into their hair -- and you've stuck to it ever since. We admire that perseverance! Really, we do! Stop throwing things!

And finally, we wanted to bring up the fact that you've said some pretty hurtful things to us personally. Like that we should replace the "M" in "MTV" with an "R," since all we do is broadcast Reality TV programs anymore. Or that that we don't know anything about music, or that we're mean-spirited "LoserHaters" who are simply jealous of NKOTB's success.

We're not gonna lie; those words cut deep. And we'd like to point out that we actually do still play music videos, a lot, on any of our three channels -- MTV, MTV2 and mtvU. And you can watch tons of them on our website, though we understand that you might not be able to do that, what with your dial-up connections and all.

Anyway, we feel a little better now. And hopefully you do, too. Frankly, we'd just like to put this whole dark saga behind us. So, if you'll go back to your cat-hair strewn dens and Precious Moments collections we'll go back to our ivory towers and inflated sense of purpose.

Deal? Deal.

Sincerely,
James

So New Kids On The Block.

Wow. We've caught a lot of heat on this one. Who knew the fans could be so mean!

Some news for you. Tomorrow, NKOTB will make their first public appearance together in 15 years when they appear live on the "Today" show (NBC). They're performing. But they will also be making an annoucement. First, that they will say they are joining "Today's" summer concert lineup on May 16 and perform live on the Plaza in their first full concert since splitting up in 1994. Second, they will announce that this concert is the first show in a world tour. And third, they will cop to being in the studio working on new music.

Ok, some thoughts.

1) I can't believe I'm posting about NKOTB.
2) This will not be our last post on NKOTB today.
3) I wonder if they will change their name to the acronym NKOTB so as to conceal the "Kids" in their band name. (Yeah, yeah, you clever commenters, we know all about the parallels between "Kids" in NKOTB and "Music" in MTV - touche).
