Spice Girls

It’s a Spice, Spice World and we’re all just living in it.

According to a new report, the world’s great girl group of all time, the Spice Girls may reunite for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. Yes, that means THIS YEAR they may take the stage together. Consider us VERY excited.

If the reports do pan out, the reunion would act as a promotion for the stage musical based on their incredibly catchy and irresistible catalogue and career, “Viva Forever,” penned by the absolutely fabulous Jennifer Saunders.

"The girls are so very excited for their musical to be released," the Radar Online source says. "They absolutely love what Jennifer Saunders has done with the script. It's going to be unlike anything anyone has ever seen on stage. Fans of the Spice Girls and younger generations that never knew their music will get to experience what Girl Power is all about!"

While Scary Spice was the last lady to agree to the musical, it seems it’s another Spice Girl making it difficult for the reunion to happen. "Mel B is pushing for it to happen. It would be an opportunity of a lifetime for the band to perform in front of a worldwide audience in front of the best athletes in their country – well, there are no words!” the source added. "Mel B and Emma Buntin are agreeable to doing it, but the holdout seems to be Victoria Beckham. She has so much going on ... and she isn't agreeing to it – yet!" Read More...

Every day a multitude of stars wander through the halls of MTV News to talk about their latest projects and goof around with our intrepid correspondents. But sometimes we catch stars elsewhere, and that's why we put together Spotted!, a daily compendium of stars in the wild.

Back in the late '90s, Geri Halliwell made a name for herself as Ginger Spice, one-fifth of the Spice Girls, a legendarily huge pop group who not only scored a ton of huge hits but also ushered in a new wave of popularity for sugary sweet dance melodies and in-your-face ladies. Their sticky singles (especially "Wannabe" and "2 Become 1"), eclectic personalities and constant nods to "Girl power" made them international sensations who still command respect (at least in the United Kingdom). Halliwell was the first member to leave the Spice Girls to pursue a solo career, and the three solo albums she has released since then have all been hits. She has also developed an impressive portfolio away from the music world, including a lot of charity work and a new line of bikinis that were just unveiled at the Savoy Hotel in London. Though she long ago ditched her trademark Union Jack dress, she still retains the same look and attitude that she had with her group (which also translates to her swimsuit designs).

She wasn't the only star taking care of business, as Jon Bon Jovi hosted a benefit concert at the Starland Ballroom in Sayerville, New Jersey, and Elton John stopped by the studios of BBC Radio Two in London. Click here for these photos as well as the entire "Spotted" archive, which features over 500 candid shots of stars like Britney Spears, Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, Jay-Z, Kanye West, Rihanna, Eminem, Madonna, Lady Gaga, the Jonas Brothers, Katy Perry, Shakira and Mariah Carey!

Her album may be delayed, but Mariah Carey's fragrance is right on time. Yesterday, she revealed the new poster for her forthcoming new perfume, which is called "Forever." She's no stranger to the scent game, as "Forever" (named after a Carey song of the same name from the Daydream album) is the singer's third perfume (following "M" and "Luscious Pink"). She told People magazine, "Fragrance is so personal, and 'Forever' captures that glamorous feeling that I want to share with my fans." The new scent is described as having "notes of lotus blossom, tuberose, gardenia, exotic woods and white musk." (I initially thought tuberose was something Carey had made up, but it turns out it's a real flower.)

Carey's past fragrances have sold extremely well (and have actually smelled delightfully pleasant and subtle). But she should step lightly with this one, because naming anything "Forever" in the music world tends to end poorly. The Spice Girls used that title for their third album and broke up shortly thereafter (following weak album sales). Diddy suffered the same fate when he dropped is album Forever in 1999, which landed with a thud despite the fact that it was a hotly-anticipated follow-up to his smash No Way Out. (He clearly learned nothing from that fiasco, as his R&B project Day26 called their second album Forever in a Day.) And though Kid Rock's album Cocky ended up doing big sales, its initial impact was weak thanks to a single called "Forever."

Obviously, the "Forever" curse isn't iron-clad, as Carey's "Forever" single was wildly successful and Wu-Tang Clan dropped an album called Wu-Tang Forever that may have been inconsistent but still sold like gangbusters (which perhaps only proves the fact that Ol' Dirty Bastard is sort of bulletproof). And obviously the fragrance world and the music universe run on different rules, so it's likely that "Forever" will do just as well as Carey's other scents. But if something goes awry, we'll know why.

Spice GirlsHere's the thing. I'm sure the Spice Girls reunion tour was lovely. I imagine the costumes were really shiny, skimpy and complicated. The energy was SOOOOO HIGH!!!!! The lady-love was off the charts. Hell, the music may have even been decent or whatever.

To be honest, I've never heard of the Vodafone Live Music Awards — though it sounds like something that might be held at a grimy Irish pub in London — but apparently the Girls were voted Best Live Return at said awards last night.
