There's been much discussion about Lady Gaga's now infamous Franc Fernandez meat dress, which she wore to the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards. And while we don't know yet if she has sparked some kind of new fashion trend until the next season of "Project Runway" rolls around (but let's hope not), she certainly has had much of the fashion community buzzing over its meaning, design and construction. While the designer has told us there is no stench to the meat that Gaga wore, we won't ever really know the true nature of it unless put in the same room with it now (which we'll also take a pass on, thank you very much).

We're currently not sure of the location of the dress or its parts, but someone managed to snap a photo of one of its many, meaty pieces backstage the night of the VMAs. A production manager at the Nokia Theatre at L.A. Live (where the big show took place) happened to be in Gaga's dressing room post-VMAs and had the gumption to snap a photo of two of the many cuts of choice beef that helped bring Gaga to other-worldly levels of fashionista status.

The photo, which has very graciously been provided to MTV News, is nothing more than two pieces of meat, sitting on some plastic wrap, surrounded by some cool packs in a cooler. Yet, those two pieces of meat are stars in their own right. Gawk at them as you wish, and just remember: Lady Gaga will almost certainly try to top that sooner or later, which is staggering to even contemplate.

A week ago, both Taylor Swift and Kanye West stole the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards with their respective performances. Not only did they both deliver polished, personal renditions of their tunes, but they also joined the ranks of a rare list of artists who have unveiled brand-new music at the VMAs. Both Swift and West performed songs that had never been heard anywhere, and each came from upcoming albums that are sure to be among the biggest of 2010. What better place than the VMA stage to show off their new toys?

Actually, the VMA performances are usually dictated by the songs that were nominated for awards (or, at the very least, those artists' current singles). Eminem's show-opening salvo was the best example of this, as he busted into both "Not Afraid" (the song that netted him eight VMA nominations) and "Love the Way You Lie" (his current chart-topping single).

But clearly some artists deviate from the script. In fact, the last time an artist drew the curtain on new music at the VMAs was in 2008, when West performed new single "Love Lockdown" for the first time. Britney Spears' "Gimme More" had found its way onto the Internet before the 2007 VMAs, but her show-opening performance of the tune was the first taste for many.

Flashing back a bit, R.E.M. premiered a new song called "The Wake-Up Bomb" at the 1995 show (it later showed up on the band's 1996 on-the-road album New Adventures in Hi-Fi). Pearl Jam also unveiled a new song called "Animal" (which came out on their second album Vs. a few weeks later).

With legends like R.E.M., Pearl Jam and Spears in their corner, both West and Swift are now part of an elite fraternity. Who will be the next artist to debut new music at the VMAs? That sounds like the first question surrounding the 2011 show. Let the speculation begin!

Everybody on the MTV News team is really looking forward to this weekend, as it represents a much-needed and well-deserved rest for the entire team, almost all of whom are recovering from last weekend's 2010 MTV Video Music Awards. The VMAs show is the highlight of every year on the MTV News calendar, though in order to bring you all the best coverage and behind-the-scenes access, it takes a lot of work, sweat, shoe leather and skipped meals. So now that the show is behind us, we're going to put our feet up, get massages and have long brunches with our loved ones this weekend. And after that, our batteries will be recharged fully and we'll continue to knock the news out of the park on a daily basis.

So enjoy your weekend, because we really will be enjoying ours. And just in case you missed any of the awesome VMA coverage here on the MTV Newsroom Blog, check out all the highlights below.

» As we mentioned, the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards were this past weekend. We opened with our totally killer white carpet pre-show, where Lady Gaga started winning awards and Nicki Minaj melted faces.

» Then the VMA show followed, which opened with a stunning performance by Eminem and got bigger and more epic from there.

» Gaga was the big story, as she collected eight awards — including the Moonman for Video of the Year.

» Though her awards were plentiful, Gaga's biggest head-turning moment was when she wore an outfit made of meat to collect her final award. Everybody weighed in, from PETA and Ellen DeGeneres to style experts and the Chick-Fil-A cows.

» Of course, Gaga's meat dress threw some curve balls. (Or not.)

» It wasn't all Gaga, though. Kanye West grabbed the spotlight as well, dropping a new song called "Runaway" that is already an instant classic.

People are still talking about one of the biggest moments of the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards, which was Lady Gaga's strange, impressive and logistically confusing outfit made of meat. As the biggest star of the night (she won eight Moonmen, half of the total awards given out), all eyes were on her when she scored the victory for Video of the Year and gave her acceptance speech in said outfit. Her fashion choices are always scrutinized (the meat dress was one of three looks she used last weekend), but this one has set the Internet ablaze for many reasons. Just about everybody has weighed in, including PETA, fashion critics, designers and the Chick-Fil-A cows.

But where does Gaga's fashion choice rank among the most outrageous choices in the history of the VMAs? Check out our nominees and vote in the poll below.

Lil' Kim's Breast-Exposing Outfit
Even if Lil' Kim wins a Nobel Prize in Physics, she'll still be best-remembered for wearing a purple outfit that allowed Diana Ross to grope her exposed breast.

Macy Gray's Album Release Date Dress
To promote her upcoming sophomore effort The Id, Macy Gray wore a dress that announced "My New Album Drops Sept. 18 2001."

Rose McGowan's Barely-There Outfit
As the date of rocker Marilyn Manson (a fashion icon in his own right), the actress wore a dress (if you could call it that) that only partially covered her underwear-free backside.

Tommy Lee's Trench Coat
Ever the envelope-pusher, Tommy Lee came to the 1999 VMAs wearing nothing but a trench coat and sneakers.

Dave Pirner's SpaghettiO's T-shirt
The Soul Asylum frontman showed up with Wynona Ryder on his arm and a dirty T-shirt on his back.

Howard Stern's Fartman Costume
What more can be said about this?

Lady Gaga's Red Lace Outfit
Honestly, one of Gaga's biggest bits of competition is herself, as the red lace number she wore to the 2009 VMAs was pretty jaw-dropping and awe-inspiring.

Taylor Swift's performance of her new song "Innocent" at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards was one of the show's most powerful and stranger moments, as it featured one of the biggest pop stars in the country playing a sullen tune under moody lighting with storm effects in the background. It was pretty heavy for a show like the VMAs. (That being said, there were a lot of heavy tunes tossed around the VMA stage this year — sure, Justin Bieber busted out "Baby," but between Paramore's "The Only Exception," B.o.B's "Airplanes," Eminem's "Love the Way You Lie" and Kanye West's "Runaway," it was an evening for downtrodden tunes.)

But "Innocent" has been the talk of the Internet for several days because of its content. Though it hasn't been confirmed, it seems as though the lyrical content addresses Kanye West and the incident between the two stars at the 2009 VMAs (the video clip of said incident that ran before Swift's performance seemed like a dead giveaway). But it also brought up conversations about Swift's forthcoming album Speak Now as well as her evolution as a performer.

When we highlighted Swift's VMA performance yesterday, we got a number of thoughtful responses about Swift and the song. "Beautiful, poignant song," wrote commenter Joanna. "Yeah, I'm pretty sure she wrote it for Kanye, but it was uplifting."

BooBooBaby added, "Yes, the song is about Kanye. I think Taylor Swift understands the heartache he is and was going through with the loss of his mom. I think the song was great." Many wrote that the song got them extra charged for Speak Now. "The song is beautiful regardless of who she had in mind when she wrote it," stefferini wrote. "I can't wait for the rest of the album."

Lyndia agreed. "Gave me chills. I absolutely love Taylor Swift and think she is one of the best artists of this century," she wrote. "I can't wait for her new album."

With enthusiasm at a fever pitch, Swift can march confidently toward the release of Speak Now on October 25.

The aftershocks of Lady Gaga's meaty fashion statement at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards were felt far and wide, and we felt that in order to do our proper due diligence as journalists, we had to thoroughly explore all relevant reactions.

So after reaching out to every vegetarian and vegan artist available for comment, it hit finally dawned up us that we had forgotten to seek an official comment from arguably the most vocal anti-beef proponents in the world: The Chick-Fil-A cows. Surely, the chicken proponents would have something to say about Gaga's red taste in both fashion and animal flesh.

While the cows are not known for their mastery of the English language (spelling seems to trip them up profoundly; then again, they are ungulates with tiny brains), they do maintain a steady presence on Twitter. So following a delicious newsroom lunch catered by Shake Shack, we reached out to both Chick-Fil-A and their vocal bovines via Twitter.

First came an official response from Chick-Fil-A headquarters. "It was definitely rare," tweeted Chic-Fil-A when asked about Gaga's outfit.

But we couldn’t settle for just that. We had to get an opinion straight from the cow's mouth. Word must have traveled quickly through the organization, because just an hour later we got a response tweeted back to us. "Beef iz so 5 minits ago," the cows tweeted, theoretically with their hoofs.

For now, the cows seem to have turned the other cheek, but the Chick-Fil-A cows hold a lot of sway in the barnyard (and fast food) community, which means that, perhaps, Gaga should resolve to "eat mor chikin."

This past weekend's 2010 MTV Video Music Awards show was my first, and I was super excited. I was assigned to help out at the top of the white carpet right where all the celebrities make their entrance, and I had picked out a cute little black dress for the event.

I took my position and everything seemed to be going well when I heard 30 Seconds to Mars were making their grand entrance. Of course, this was a big moment at the show. After all, not only am I a fan, but they were also the first ones on the white carpet, which was obviously a big deal. They were setting the tone for the big night, and I wanted everything to get off on the right foot.

So there I am, anticipating the band's arrival (in the video below, I'm the barely-visible girl in sunglasses behind the yellow chicken — and no, I never thought I would be describing myself that way), excited that they were finally making their way to the entrance. But they had some surprise guests: A swarm of mostly shirtless bicyclists.

At first, I went with it. After all, I had heard about the entrance ahead of time, so I wasn't completely caught off guard by the entourage. But before I could really process the moment, the cyclists started throwing feathers, water, glitter and some kind of colored powder (I heard it was probably chalk) into the air. My charming little black dress? In total shambles. The white carpet? Significantly less white.

After the band left, a cleaning crew came out and fixed up the carpet, but my dress — an innocent and helpless bystander in the chaos — didn't get the same treatment. But I forgive you, because the show was incredible and I had an amazing time. That's the sort of magic that happens at the MTV Video Music Awards, and I was happy to be a part of it.

The 2010 MTV Video Music Awards pre-show was full of great interviews, a memorable performance care of Nicki Minaj and will.i.am and a number of cool-looking arrivals. 30 Seconds to Mars pulled up with an army of glitter-throwing bicyclists behind them, while Lady Gaga showed up in an amazing Alexander McQueen dress flanked by former members of the military. The pre-show was so packed, in fact, that some of the great moments couldn't fit in during the one hour broadcast. Luckily, we have the footage of some of the greatest moments that nobody saw, including Ke$ha's arrival to the white carpet via DeLorean.

The cult classic car (known forever for its appearance as a time machine in the "Back to the Future" series) pulled up to the carpet to allow it's gull-wing doors to open. The singer emerged wearing her shiny black dress (which she said was actually made from a garbage bag) and shiny silver jewelry. This car didn't appear to be one of the time traveling versions, and later Ke$ha admitted that it was just a loaner (though she really wanted to keep it). She was a big hit on the carpet, and as always made a big impression on both fans and other stars.

Check out the footage of her arrival below, and enjoy the rest of the best of the VMA pre-show that you didn't see!

One of the biggest headline-grabbing aspects of the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards was the number of collaborations and meetings of the mind that occurred this past Sunday night (September 12). Fans raved about B.o.B and Hayley Williams finally appearing on stage together for a performance of "Airplanes" as well as Rihanna making a surprise appearance to prop up Eminem's masterful take on "Love the Way You Lie." There were also opportunities for people on the red carpet, as evidenced by the tag team of Justin Bieber and Drake. During the pre-show, MTV News' Jim Cantiello attempted to bridge the gap between two of the most popular shows on television: "Jersey Shore" and "Glee." Surely the stars of each must have some kind of mutual admiration for one another, right?

Perhaps not. When Cantiello caught up with "Glee" star Chris Colfer, he regretted the fact that he was not a regular watcher of "Jersey Shore." To compare notes, Cantiello called over "Jersey Shore" star Jenni "JWoww" Farley, confessed that she did not watch "Glee." Sadly, it appears as though those much-dreamed-about crossover episodes will remain the stuff of Internet slash fiction and little else.

Which show do you prefer: "Glee" or "Jersey Shore"? Let us know your pick in the comments!

The 2010 MTV Video Music Awards wrapped up two days ago, but the events of the evening are still resonating deeply throughout the music world. Fans are still marveling at Linkin Park's performance, exploring the amazing logistics of getting Rihanna to the show for a surprise appearance with Eminem and keeping Kanye West's freshly-premiered "Runaway" steadily on repeat. There is also still plenty of chatter about Taylor Swift's performance of her new song "Innocent" at the show, which has piqued the interest of fans, critics and experts for a number of different reasons.

Certainly the most somber, sullen song Swift has ever played in a forum as large as the Video Music Awards, "Innocent" begins as a simple, spartan ballad and grows into a powerful torch song. Aided by moody lighting, key video effects and the song's snaky melody, Swift delivered a powerful performance that found her in excellent voice. When she wrapped up, people immediately began speculating that "Innocent" was a song written for Kanye (whose image — taken from the 2009 VMAs — ran on video screens before Swift started the song).

Since her upcoming album Speak Now is supposedly made up of songs written for particular individuals, it's entirely possible that "Innocent" is the track she wrote to West. Experts were torn, though fans seemed pretty sharply divided over both the song's content and its presentation. That isn't particularly shocking, considering that "Innocent" is a different beast than anything Swift has ever put out.

Check out Taylor Swift's performance of "Innocent" again and consider the questions: Is the song about Kanye West? Is it too dark, or does it represent growth for the singer? And what is your overall impression of her performance? Let us know what you think in the comments.
