I am an admitted Belieber. "Baby" is my jam. I blast his songs in the office on a daily basis, despite the fact that I am in my late 20s and probably should have outgrown listening to bubblegum pop long ago.

So when I was given the opportunity to watch the Beebz rehearse outside for his VMA performance, I leapt from my chair, skipped, and then threw up from the excitement. OK, I didn't. But I really wanted to.

I stood 10 feet away from Bieber as he practiced a medley of his biggest hits. The pop prince turned out to be quite the perfectionist, going through multiple takes before being satisfied with his singing and dancing. He even went so far as to exclaim that he "sounded like crap!" after one run-through. But you didn't, Justin. Your voice took me to a beautiful meadow of sunshine and lollipops.

The highlight of the rehearsal was when he looked me in the eye and sang to me. That's right, Justin Bieber pointed right at me and serenaded me. So what if it's only because I happened to step directly in front of him by accident? Let me have my moment.

I'm not at liberty to share any more details about his performance, so you'll just have to check out these pictures and then tune in to the VMAs on Sunday. I promise it will be amazing. Just remember that he's crooning to me, and not you, though.

Boo-ya!

When the question of who would perform at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards came up, there were a handful of names that seemed pretty obvious. With a new album and a comeback underway, Kanye West was a clear choice. Considering his meteoric rise in the past year, Drake was another no-brainer. And when you think about how he got his national start at the 2009 version of the VMAs, Justin Bieber was a clear choice.

Earlier today, it was officially announced that Bieber would be gracing the stage at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards, which will air live from Los Angeles on Sunday, September 12 at 9 p.m. Eastern. Bieber joins an impressive (and still-growing) list of performers that includes West, Drake, Florence and the Machine, B.o.B and Deadmau5 (who will serve as the house DJ). He'll also get to hang backstage with presenters like Ke$ha, Nicki Minaj, Ne-Yo, Ashley Greene and Selena Gomez. What song will Bieber perform? What surprises are in store? Who will win? You can only find out if you tune in on Sunday, September 12.

In addition to performing and serving as a nominee, Bieber also helped out with promotion of the show that helped him gain his national footing (he gave a shout-out to a contest winner and also presented an award at last year's show). Hence the video below, which translates Bieber's rise to success (from singing on the Internet to gracing the VMA stage) in the context of Beetlemania. Check out his escape from a horde of screaming teen girls — something the 16-year-old Canadian superstar has gotten used to in the past 365 days.

As soon as the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards nominations were released Tuesday morning (August 3), there was only one person we became immediately obsessed with upon learning them. Sure, we love Lady Gaga and Eminem and Justin Bieber and Katy Perry, but as soon as we saw that Jason Derulo's "In My Head" received two nominations (one for Best New Artist, another for Best Male Video) we wanted to give the song another listen.

And then another. And another. And a few dozen more.

After an hour of spinning it on repeat, we all began singing to one another what just might be the catchiest part of the tune: The part where Jason Derulo sings his own name. We'd turn around and belt out to one another "Jason Derulo" in the newsroom, as we passed by one another in hallways and even at the robotic coffee machine (it's not really robotic, but it's fancy and I'd like to think it's actually a robot who knows how I like my hazelnut latte).

So you could imagine my excitement when I learned that I would be getting on the phone with Mr. Derulo himself to discuss his nominations. While he said some great stuff about being nominated this year, we couldn't pass up the opportunity to thank him for brightening up our day a bit and sing to him that hook of his name. It may have confused him, but at least I got that chance.

Still, despite my exceptional vocal skills, Derulo himself probably does the job a bit better. Check out the proof below.

The 2010 MTV Video Music Awards nominations are officially out, and in a not-too-shocking development, Lady Gaga leads the way with 13 potential Moonmen for her trophy case, mantle or back of her toilet (depending on how she likes to commemorate these things). Head on over to the official VMA 2010 page to vote on the winners in all the top categories, including Best Male Video, Best Rock Video, Best Collaboration, Best Hip-Hop Video, Best Female Video and, of course, Video of the Year.

It's that last category that is the most high-profile and thus the most intriguing. This year's batch of nominees includes two entries from Lady Gaga ("Bad Romance" and "Telephone," her team-up with Beyoncé) and clips from Eminem ("Not Afraid"), B.o.B ("Airplanes"), Florence and the Machine ("Dog Days Are Over") and 30 Seconds to Mars ("Kings and Queens"). The latter entry is extremely intriguing, because though the premise and approach of "Kings and Queens" is relatively simple (bicyclists speed around the empty streets of downtown Los Angeles) and doesn't contain any real special effects (the fires in the background were a fortuitous coincidence), it is actually an incredibly cinematic, wholly satisfying experience.

When the clip premiered late last year, 30 Seconds to Mars members Jared Leto (who also directed the video) and Tomo Milicevic sat down with MTV News to create an entry of our "Frame By Frame" franchise. The two band members explained the difficulty in getting some of the shots and the stories behind a lot of the riders in the clip (including the guy with the American flag and the group dressed as Baseball Furies from the film "The Warriors"). It was clearly a passion project for Leto, and his hard work has paid off in the form of a nomination for Video of the Year (as well as noms for Best Rock Video, Best Direction and Best Art Direction).

Which video is your favorite to win Video of the Year? Let us know in the comments or shoot a tweet to @mtvnews or @kylemtvnewsroom!

What do you do when you've worked the VMAs all day and finally make it to the afterparty, only to find out that it's over?

Plan B: Invite everyone back to the Hollywood Roosevelt to finish the night. Two things were working in our favor: The entire MTV New York staff was staying there, and our gracious boss had a sweet suite on the top floor. Really, after working all those long hours, all I wanted was to have a drink (and to do some very un-Jonas-Brothers-type things).

So there we were, with the VMAs successfully behind us, a bunch of MTV staffers letting loose. And then the unthinkable happened.

Former "I Wanna Be a VJ" winner Jesse Camp strolled in.

Britney SpearsIt's probably not much of a surprise, especially to the longtime Britney watchers who talked to MTV News earlier this week about what a VMA appearance might do for the singer's career. But on Wednesday (September 3) it was officially confirmed that Britney Spears will appear at the Video Music Awards in Hollywood on Sunday. Brit will open the show — but beyond that, we have no idea what she's going to do! We'll be on the edge of our seats when the big show starts at 9 p.m. ET, but don't miss MTV News' preshow, "Opening Act," from the red carpet at 8 p.m.!

Working for MTV News isn't always easy. Sometimes you have to ask tough questions. And you can't be afraid. Even when you're sitting across Jennifer Lopez and she is clearly angry. And you have to somehow ask: "What the hell were you thinking when you wore that dreadful outfit to the VMAs?"

This same time last year, MTV was working on a VMA fashion special. It featured a segment called "Defend Your Outfit," where artists were asked to defend questionable fashion choices they'd rocked at previous VMA shows.
